Retired US general (Wesley Clark) criticizes McCain's military experience
AFP ^ | June 29, 2008 | AFP

Posted on 06/29/2008 8:26:53 PM PDT by FocusNexus

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Retired US General Wesley Clark on Sunday said Republican White House hopeful John McCain lacked executive experience to be president, in rare criticism of the Vietnam veteran's military service.

Clark told CBS television that McCain was a hero for enduring years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam "but he hasn't held executive responsibility.

"That large squadron in the Navy that he commanded -- that wasn't a wartime squadron. He hasn't been there and ordered the bombs to fall."

Clark, former NATO supreme allied commander, said McCain's combat experience as a fighter pilot did not make him more qualified to be president than Democratic candidate Barack Obama.

"Well, I don't think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be president," he said.

Clark said Obama had shown good judgment and talent as a communicator, saying the US president's greatest authority came from the power to persuade.

Hey Wes!
You lack POW experience!
How about you sit in lock up for the next 5 years?

This idiot has the nerve to bring up “command experience” when his guy isn’t even house broke!

Yeah, but you forgot...Obama had ‘lock up” experience in his church with Rev Wright for 20 years. Uh, wait a minute, that would be torture for me...not Obama and the oh-so-sad-and -tragically downtrodden Michelle.

The guy who almost started World War III?

From The Guardian, Tuesday August 3, 1999:

“I’m not going to start the third world war for you,” General Sir Mike Jackson, commander of the international K-For peacekeeping force, is reported to have told Gen Clark when he refused to accept an order to send assault troops to prevent Russian troops from taking over the airfield of Kosovo’s provincial capital.

I’m not so excited about McCain either - but this is ludicrous. If McCain’s experience is somehow not good enough (and I suppose that is arguable) what does that make Obama’s?

I recall the 2003 fall piece in the Washington Post - an opinion piece urging Clark to run entitled “Run Wes, Run!” Run he did, but absolutely no one noticed. I’d say he has earned himself a STFU!

Wesley Clark: General Issues

Aug. 2003

“THE GUY MUST HAVE A BEDROOM AT CNN,” my wife would joke. It seemed true, because at every hour of the day or night during the Iraq War, retired General Wesley K. Clark could be seen on the Cable News Network as a “military expert” criticizing the Bush Administration.”

Obama has zero executive experience. He’s never run anything bigger than his own senate staff.

At least McCain had officer training. He also doesn’t have executive experience. I wish we had picked a candidate who DID have executive experience.

But McCain DOES have military experience, which Obama does not have. Nothing prevented Obama from joining the reserves, taking ROTC, or doing anything to suggest he had an interest in the military. And there really was no war to worry about when he was of age to join.

Wesley has executive military experience, enough to prove he should never be allowed anywhere NEAR a position of executive leadership.

He was fired for something, I remember another US General being interviewed at the White House and the question was, what did Clark Do. He hinted that it would be too embarrassing for the US military to talk about it.

Power to persuade what? The Islamist Immans preach hatred, and so did Rev. Wright. Is Obama affected by their rheteric? Is much of our problems a result a result of these teaching intitutions? Barrack promises big changes, and I don't hear him address it. He's in denial.

It disturbs me that Barrak lauds and wrote a book centered on a father, who deserted him, and not his mother who nurtured him and imo was most responsible for success.

Ask anyone in the army - Wesley Clark was a pure political general who was hated by the real soldiers. A weasel who knew how to get to the top, but reviled by professional soldiers.

I would love to see “Chicken” Wesley hump with the 75th Ranger Infantry Regiment!

“Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission though I be the lone survivor.”
