MONTREAT, N.C. - Billy Graham is as close to a religious icon in American politics as anyone, so its no surprise that a U.S. presidential candidate would seek his blessing.
On Sunday Republican John McCain did just that, essentially, traveling to the ailing evangelists mountaintop home to meet and pray with him and son Franklin, who heads the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

Does McCain have the picture on his website? Or is it a no-no for him, also?
This was on TV and McCain spoke after his visit.
Finally, a flip-flop from McCain that makes sense.
Wait until McCain hears about this:

Billy Graham: God does, indeed, chastise sinful nations
By BILLY GRAHAM
SYNDICATED COLUMNIST
DEAR DR. GRAHAM: Does God judge nations as well as individuals? How bad does a nation have to get before God will intervene and bring it down? Frankly, I worry about our country and the way we only pay lip service to God — or worse. — Mrs. D.P.
DEAR MRS. D.P.: If you read through the early chapters of Isaiah, for example, you will discover a number of prophecies about nations that had turned their backs on God, and would be judged as a result. In time, every one of those prophecies came true.

There appears to be a scale of chastisement. In the extreme, God's criteria for destroying Sodom and Gomorrah show that total destruction requires near total depravity
60 million dead babies and gay marriage?
Wow, he's a tough old coot....God's probably pissed cause he's shelling out mortgage for that VIP suite he got Billy years a couple of years back.
I thought Graham passed on two years ago.
Wow, he’s a tough old coot....God’s probably pissed cause he’s shelling out mortgage for that VIP suite in heaven he got Billy years a couple of years back.
We don't know the size of Sodom or Gomorrah but they appeared to be comparatively large cities of commercial importance. Had there been just a handful of righteous people in those cities, God would have spared them.
The other thing that has always struck me as interesting is given all we know of Lot, he was known as righteous. Sort of like David being known as a man after Gods own heart.
What we know of both doesn't square with our understanding of righteous and good.
I doubt Billy Graham has ever voted anything but democrat, so lord McCain does have a chance to be the first, as he has so much of the democrat mind.
I hope, too, that Obama does the same thing and travel to the mountain top retreat of the great religious icon Louis Farrakhan. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard a really good discussion on haberdashery.
Thanks. I don’t watch TV so I missed it. Wanted to know how Billy Graham is doing.
All of us are sinners, even David and Lot. They had faith and trusted in God.
waste of high priced gas, worthless trip.
I wonder if this will put to rest those here who believed the 3rd-party pro-obama supporter claim that McCain refused to meet with Graham.
SOme will probably claim that this is a “flip-flop” by McCain, based on the false claims of the pro-obama “Evangelicals” who tried to assert that they were rebufed by McCain in trying to set up a meeting with Graham for him.
Not a flip-flop. The story from the pro-Obama “evangelical” was a lie.
