Sliming The Greatest Generation On PBS? (PBS Show To Argue Allies As Bad As Nazis)
michellemalkin.com & nypost.com ^ | June 30, 2008 | Michelle Malkin

Posted on 06/30/2008 3:49:19 PM PDT by Free ThinkerNY

Adam Buckman at the NYPost blew the whistle last week on a moral equivalence-marinated PBS documentary that airs tonight. Melanie Morgan and I chatted about the smearing of the Greatest Generation with Rush Limbaugh during the “From the Frontlines” web-a-thon on Friday. I’ve heard from many upset WWII vets. Read Adam’s column here.

Excerpt:

Members of the Greatest Generation - especially those with weak hearts - might want to steer clear of an upcoming PBS documentary that suggests the Allied victory in World War II was “tainted” and questions whether it can even be called a victory.

Moreover, the documentary, titled “The War of the World: A New History of the 20th Century,” asserts that the war could only be won by forming an unholy alliance with a dictator - Joseph Stalin, who was as brutal as the one they were fighting, Adolf Hitler - and by adopting the same “pitiless” and “remorseless” tactics practiced by the enemy.

The leftist media don’t believe in just wars and in fighting wars to win. They’re doing what they can to make us retroactively lose WWII.

Well, well. These leftists are so caught up in America hatred that they are even willing to speak badly of their old pal, Uncle Joe Stalin.

Interesting. Stalin was as bad as Hitler? You don't often hear any lefitsts admitting that.

Why do these pond scum insist on living here in America? They don't like our country. They don't appreciate the sacrifices made by our military. They don't value our freedom. They don't believe in God, etc.

If it's so bad here, I wish they would stop complaining and JUST LEAVE. Go to Darfur. Go to Iran. Anywhere that they will suffer and then and only then will it even begin to dawn on them how much they have in America that they take for granted and work to destroy. They sicken me.

“Why do these pond scum insist on living here in America?”

Because any less gentile country would kill them or imprison them.

…it is Ferguson’s revisionist view of the tactics applied by the Allies in World War II that is likely to raise the hackles of those who have always believed in the “necessity” of bombing German and Japanese civilians, culminating in the atomic attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, to end a war we did not start.

“I think it’s very hard for those who have imbibed the idea of a ‘great generation’ that what the Allies did to defeat the Axis was in some measure to adopt totalitarian tactics,” Ferguson says in a Q&A on PBS’s Web site.

ABSOLUTE WAR IS NOT A TOTALITARIAN TACTIC!!! Totalitarian has to do with the system of government not the tactics used in war. Words mean things, much to liberal revisionist historian's chagrin. This idiot throws words around to smear and obfuscate, not to illuminate. Propaganda porn for anti-American leftists.

Is there something to doubt in that statement?

The salient point is, however, that whatever moral qualms one might raise about things like the Dresden Raid and other things, they all happened on the watch of Saint Franklin D. Roosevelt. Or Harry Truman - but mostly, Roosevelt. And Roosevelt didn't mind allying with Stalin. At all.

Trash Stalin, okay, but reach Patton’s conclusion.

“Give me 10 days and I’ll start a war with those G** da** Reds and make it look like their fault. Then we can push the mother ******* back into Moscow where they belong!”

I guess that’s not what these particular “filmmakers” are suggesting we should have done.

Heck, they're probably right... it's foolish to let an enemy use tactics you won't, or to refuse to use those that will let you win quicker. The firebombing of German and Japanese cities intentionally targeted civilians but it put terrific stress on their respective countries; LeMay later remarked that if he hadn't run out of incendiaries, he could have brought the War to an end in June of '45.

War isn't a sporting event and the 'rules of war' are basically a PR exercise - in reality, all armies fight dirty. The real test of a country is what it does with its victory, and there I think we did pretty well.

I'm long past any feeling of surprise for the warped and twisted reportage from PBS. What truly pi**es me off is that I must finance it via my taxes. This really has to change.

I wonder if PBS will point out that Herman Goering made the exact same case in his defense at Nuremburg.

If figures PBS would argue in favor of the Nazi’s.

“Unholy alliance”? Hardly, many in the Roosevelt administration- they were fellow travelers with Stalin, and for them it was an alliance of preference, not necessity. Let's not forget that at Yalta, where millions were condemned to live under the hammer and sickle, one of Roosevelt's top advisors was that great American Alger Hiss.
Speaking of FDR,I am currently reading “The Forgotten Man - A New History of the Great Depression” by Amity Shlaes and recommend it.
