Let Iraq's Oil Flow
IBD Editorials ^ | June 30, 2008

Energy: A free Iraq has invited foreign oil companies to bid on its massive oil fields. Why do Democratic senators want the U.S. to thwart the will of the people in the country we liberated?

It's too bad so many Americans have been conditioned by the powers of this country's media establishment into believing that oil is a filthy, diabolical substance — rather than the lifeblood of today's economy on which our national security and economic well-being depend. What the people of Iraq, through their free government, did this week is something both Iraqis and Americans can be proud of:

Baghdad has invited foreign oil firms to bid on contracts to increase production in eight lagging oil fields.

Thanks to our liberation of that country, which cost the U.S. and Iraq so much in lives and resources, Baghdad is now able to begin to make full use of its oil reserves of as much as 112.5 billion barrels — after Saudi Arabia, the largest petroleum deposit in the world.

But Iraq needs private companies because they have the kind of know-how and resources the country needs to rebuild its energy infrastructure and revive oil production after suffering under Saddam Hussein for so long. Baghdad's goal is to improve output from the current 2.5 million barrels a day to 4.5 million barrels by 2013.

More rope-a-dope from the DemLeft.

If we tell Iraq what to do with their oil, it confirms that they are our vassal, and that we’ve stolen their oil. The very same Dems criticizing us for letting them do what they like will be first in line to criticize us if we tell them what to do.

They’re going to criticize us either way we go. They just wait to see which way we go in order to take the opposing side. They are shape-shifters. They believe in nothing, they fill whatever space is left after we’ve made our judgements and started to act.

The opinion of a shape-shifter is valueless. Its not an opinion, its just a space-holder for an opinion they don’t have. Its only purpose is to oppose you. Its you they’re against, not anything you think or do.

The reason the Three Stooges came out against this on purely spurious grounds (there is revenue sharing in Iraq, there simply isn't a formal law in place, one of the few remaining Democratic benchmarks that they can cling to to claim defeat). It is considerably more sordid than any high-minded insistence on legislation in a country they have done their very best to turn back over to savages. It is twofold: first, such a contract in place would be to Bush's credit, a credit they want to claim for themselves after an election they are absolutely and arrogantly certain they'll win, and second, that oil companies looking for contracts that are influenced by a Democrat government can be held up for bribes that will end up in Democrat coffers. In short, business as usual for the party of corruption.

Wow. Do you know... this is the first time I've ever heard it put that way? I kind of feel like slapping myself on the forehead right now and yelling "DUH!!" because honestly, so many times I've thought "What the hell is the matter with them? Half the time they're contradicting themselves, they make no sense, they claim views they'd never live by... why?"

Now I look at what you wrote and it's positively Ayn Randian (which I hope you take as a compliment, because that's how it's intended.)

You’re right! Just a few years ago the libs were yelling that we were taking over a foreign country for their oil. “No blood for oil” they screeched. Now that we’re keeping our promise to the Iraqis that they would be in charge of their own country, the libs are yelling that WE WANT THEIR OIL! Hypocrits!

David Horowitz, who was raised in the far left (a red diaper baby, he calls it) says that on the left, there is a saying about issues the left supports:

“The issue is never the issue. The issue is only how to support the revolution.”

In other words, for the left, issues are only the means to bring down the United States.
