Your America

Posted on 06/30/2008 7:22:38 PM PDT by Lloyd Marcus

Your America

I exchanged pleasantries with the owner of my neighborhood produce stand while purchasing her fresh tomatoes, onions and world's sweetest watermelon. Feeling the folks in line behind me getting annoyed at the post office, I politely cut off the postmaster telling me about the latest piece of furniture he built in his wood shop. It occurred to me, this is the wonderful world I've created for myself. Be good to people and they're usually good to you.

Agenda driven politicians and media have created a negative world view of America. To them, America's glass is forever half empty. I see our glass well over half full.

Rather than focusing on the time an idiot attacked me in a restaurant for being with my white wife, I choose to focus on the overwhelming love and generosity the American people showered on the victims of hurricane Katrina. When I was a young black kid fresh out of art college, a white businessman gave me prime office space to start my own business. There are countless random acts of kindness between the races never reported on the evening news.

Why some folks choose to see our great country, their home, as evil boggles my mind. While the America haters endure their miserable world, I'll keep enjoying mine. By the way, I know of an awesome produce stand. The watermelon is outstanding.

They're called socialists. They hate America because our Representative Democracy is predicated on a Constitution that was designed by our founding fathers to disburse power to the people and therefore is anathema to the socialists belief of a strong centralized government.

Today was a a most beautiful day in every aspect. I left work early just to be outside. And I went in late. And I went to lunch early and returned late.

As I was being a truant I kept realizing what a truly perfect day I was living.

God bless you, my friend. May your Every-day be like today!

PC. And no I am not referring to Politically Correct. I am referring to Perfection or Crap. Their world is totally black and white. Either something is perfect from the foundation of the world or it is crap and should be regarded as evil and destroyed.

For them the concept of some bad but more good is as alien as Mars.

The offshoot of this is some people who live in yesterday. Yearning for a Helicon golden age that never was. "If only we could go back," they cry even though if they got their wish they would promptly realize why, "May you get what you want," is considered a curse in many cultures.

Both of these groups share the same romantic outlook and it makes them a pain to deal with.

It also makes them dangerous. Because they truly do want to tear everything down and start again from scratch. Alas there is no way to do that without killing a lot of people but they view that as an acceptable sacrifice or even a benefit.

They are, sadly, found on both the left and the right and they trouble me.

You are correct that this is a great country and it is also a great time to be alive. Is it perfect? No. But then neither am I. I choose to be content and enjoy the blessings that being me in this time, and in this place brings.

The “victim” class created by the 60s has perpetuated the mess. And the “victims” act worse and less civilized every day, and I do confine this to a single political party-—Democrats, the perrenial victims or representatives and creators of victims and victim mentality.
Americans are meant to work hard, stand straight and proud and tall and make something of the unique opportunities given them, not look for vengeance and retribution and handouts all the time.

What a refreshing post. Thank you!

BTW, I also know a wonderful watermelon stand, in my village. I choose to entertain the fantasy that we both visit the same one! ;-)

God Bless you Lloyd Marcus. Your short and sweet post is very encouraging and uplifting! You have found the secret...

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.
