Obama Courting Evangelicals Once Loyal to Bush
NYT ^ | 6/30/08 | Johnny Broder

Posted on 06/30/2008 7:39:17 PM PDT by pissant

WASHINGTON — Politically speaking, Susan Speakman is a different kind of evangelical.

Mrs. Speakman, 59, a pastor and educator at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Bridgeville, Pa., an activist evangelical church southwest of Pittsburgh, backs Senator Barack Obama in the presidential race. Along with her 23-year-old son, Stephen, she supports Mr. Obama because of his stands on the Iraq war and matters of social justice. The two of them plan to spread the word in their community and beyond.

“What caught my attention early on was his comment that we don’t want red states and blue states, but we want to find reconciliation and rapprochement with folks,” said Mrs. Speakman, who changed her party affiliation to Democratic from Republican this year to vote for Mr. Obama in the Pennsylvania primary. “I really object to the other approach — divide and conquer, isolate and demonize the opposition. I try to engage the other side and try to find ways we can bring the values of the kingdom of God into the experience of humanity.”

Yes, they're all in the Black Liberation Theology business. The "religious" stuff they do is pure BS. They are concocted religions invented to promote hatred, division and eventually revolution. That's what BLT is all about. See my FR home page for more on the subject (click ETL below).

Regardless, the evangelicals, due to their love and lust of govt power and dollars, have alienated almost every segment of what was once a powerful coalition of smaller govt members. Again, let them leave. They won’t and shouldn’t be missed.

Glad you're not painting with a broad brush or anything. Are we allowed to miss the ones that are leaving due to their love of small govt and disgust with the democrat-ization of the GOP or does the evangelical part cancel out the good features for you?

It's trivially easy to find someone calling themselves an "evangelical" who enthusiastically supports Obama.

Just like I know someone who belonged to the Colorado branch of an organization calling themselves "Republicans for Kerry" in '04 (they had an enormous membership in this state - it reached into a couple of dozen at least).

And of course, plenty of Jews voted for Hitler in the last free election in Germany in 1932.

So, like, what else is new?

Plenty of evangelicals here that would abolish 3/4 of the government.

And Obama was all over Farakhan’s Million (divided by 10) Man March, like Clinton on a chubby intern.

I remember that day well. Crime across the nation dropped like a rock! Fact is, all of these groups and individuals are united by Black Liberation Theology, including Bill Ayers' Weather Underground. All are Maoist revolutionary.

The Real Story Behind Rev. Wright's Controversial Black Liberation Theology Doctrine
Monday , May 5, 2008
FoxNews/Hannity's America
[special Friday night edition--original airdate May 2, 2008]

(some key excerpts)

JOSE DIAZ-BALART, TELEMUNDO NETWORK: "Liberation theology in Nicaragua in the mid-1980's was a pro-Sandinista, pro-Marxist, anti-U.S., anti-Catholic Church movement. That's it. No ifs, ands, or buts. His church apparently supported, in the mid-'80s in Nicaragua, groups that supported the Sandinista dictatorships and that were opposed to the Contras whose reason for being was calling for elections. That's all I know. I was there.

I saw the churches in Nicaragua that he spoke of, and the churches were churches that talked about the need for violent revolution and I remember clearly one of the major churches in Managua where the Jesus Christ on the altar was not Jesus Christ, he was a Sandinista soldier, and the priests talked about the corruption of the West, talked about the need for revolution everywhere, and talked about 'the evil empire' which was the United States of America."

REV. BOB SCHENCK, NATIONAL CLERGY COUNCIL: "it's based in Marxism. At the core of his [Wright's] theology is really an anti-Christian understanding of God, and as part of a long history of individuals who actually advocate using violence in overthrowing those they perceive to be oppressing them, even acts of murder have been defended by followers of liberation theology. That's very, very dangerous."

SCHENCK: "I was actually the only person escorted to Dr. Wright. He asked to see me, and I simply welcomed him to Washington, and then I said Dr. Wright, I want to bring you a warning: your embrace of Marxist liberation theology. It is contrary to the Gospel, and you need, sir, to abandon it. And at that he dropped the handshake and made it clear that he was not in the mood to dialogue on that point."

Malik Zulu Shabazz, chairman of the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense (NBPP):
"We are happy today to be standing side by side with the Nation of Islam. We believe, like the Nation of Islam and the Honorable Elijah Muhammad believe, in a nation of our own. We believe in a Black first philosophy and a Black Liberation Theology. We don’t worry about the criticism. We love all of those who labored in the Panther Party from the ’60s. Many are with us today."

From the article: REVOLUTIONARY HEROES

excerpt...

"On May 1st, May Day [1969], the day of the gigantic Free Huey rally, two of Alioto's top executioners vamped on the brothers from the Brown Community who were attending to their own affairs. These brothers, who are endowed with the revolutionary spirit of the Black Panther Party defended themselves from the racist pig gestapo.

Pig Joseph Brodnik received his just reward with a big hole in the chest. Pig Paul McGoran got his in the mouth which was not quite enough to off him.

The revolutionary brothers escaped the huge swarm of pigs with dogs, mace, tanks and helicopters, proving once again that "the spirit of the people is greater than the man's technology."

To these brothers the revolutionary people of racist America want to say, by your revolutionary deed you are heroes, and that you are always welcome to our camp."

Ms speakman - that 'WE' is rich coming from a man who sat in a "hate whitey' church for 20 years! Furthermore, NO ONE can claim Christianity if they support abortion.

He’s welcome to have them. Evangelicals = Big govt socialists who claim their theft is mandated through Jesus’ teachings. The GOP is better off without such company.

Considering the GOP was resurrected, so to speak, in no small measure in the late 70s, early 80s by Jerry Falwell and Co, I’d be very hesitant to toss them overboard.

Not really. Ever heard of a man called Ronald Reagan? He and his ideas about liberty, why govt is the problem not the solution, and the greatness of this country (and NOT that schmuck Falwell) brought the GOP around.

"Although raised in his mother's Disciples of Christ denomination, beginning in 1963 Reagan generally attended Presbyterian church services at Bel-Air Presbyterian Church, Bel-Air, California. He became an official member of Bel-Air Presbyterian after leaving the Presidency. In addition, Reagan stated that he considered himself a "born-again Christian."

Reagan and Religion

This, my friend, is what we call a "conundrum".

Weren’t about 20-30% so-called Evangelicals voted for Gore and Kerry anyway? So, I have a feeling that these ‘Evangelicals’ already vote along liberal lines in the first place.

He’s also for letting them lay there and die if they survive the abortion.

"Obama's record on abortion is extreme. He opposed the ban on partial-birth abortion -- a practice a fellow Democrat, the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan, once called 'too close to infanticide.' Obama strongly criticized the Supreme Court decision upholding the partial-birth ban. In the Illinois state Senate, he opposed a bill similar to the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, which prevents the killing of infants mistakenly left alive by abortion. And now Obama has oddly claimed he would not want his daughters to be 'punished with a baby' because of a crisis pregnancy -- hardly a welcoming attitude toward new life."

the evangelicals, due to their love and lust of govt power and dollars,

Would you care to share with us all the name of whatever it is you've been smoking today? Or is that none of our business?

Again, let them leave. They won’t and shouldn’t be missed.

Yup! Electorally speaking, the GOP would never miss the departure of such a microscopically tiny constituent group as evangelical Christians.

I take it that you, on the other hand, must belong to one of the major GOP voting blocs, none of whom the GOP could afford to see walk away. Perhaps the Log Cabin Republicans? The National Association of Republican Planned Parenthood Clinic Directors? Atheists for Bush? Am I getting warmer? Colder?

Apostates, yes, Evangelicals, no.

Exactly! They put on a Christian mask as if we can't see through it. If they knew The Bible, they would know we were warned about false teachers, etc.
