Obama to Make Call to Expand Bush's Faith-Based Programs
Wall Street Journal ^ | 1 July 2008 | Staff

Reaching out to evangelical voters, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is announcing plans to expand President Bush's program steering federal social service dollars to religious groups and -- in a move sure to cause controversy -- support some ability to hire and fire based on faith.

Sen. Obama was unveiling his approach to getting religious charities more involved in government anti-poverty programs during a tour and remarks Tuesday in Zanesville, Ohio, at Eastside Community Ministry, which provides food, clothes, youth ministry and other services.

"The challenges we face today ... are simply too big for government to solve alone," Sen. Obama was to say, according to a prepared text of his remarks obtained by the Associated Press. "We need all hands on deck."

Sen. Obama's announcement is part of a series of events leading up to Friday's Fourth of July holiday that are focused on American values.

Sure - what faiths exactly will he have the Gov’t give money too?? Gene Robinsons Gay Bishophric in New Hampshire? Pro-Abortion splinter Catholic groups?

This was a bad idea from the start, and if Obama is in office, it shows how it can/will be misused.

No No No ... Honest religion doesn’t need or want government assistance! Our forefathers escaped religious oppression by exploring this country. Let’s not set ourselves up for more religious corruption at the hand of government!

The Bible: God’s immutable word(Obama on faith) Cross Action News 7-1-08

I’ve posted links to over a dozen articles on the DNC strategy for 2006, 2008 and beyond to co-opt the religious vote.

The strategy was announced immediately after LOSING the 2004 election.

The playbook is online for those who want to see the Democrats’ own expressed strategy. They were quite public about it.

They are lying for votes.

Years ago, “Billions and Billions” guy Carl Sagan was quoted in a Sunday newspaper magazine article as saying he wanted churches to provide an audience and he and environmentalists would provide the message. It was, to him, a win-win situation. Today socialists want the same thing: churches are to provide manpower and water carriers and the socialists will provide whatever messages are to be given the unfortunate the churches help. Churches may only minister worldly assistance in a federally-funded program. They may not preach, proselyte, display religion symbols or speak “religious” language. They may not reject anyone who wants their help and they may not impose strings to that help. They may only be a civil service employees without civil service benefits.

Exactly, “What faiths?”. One’s imagination could go wild.

Also from the Breitbart article

“But Obama’s support for letting religious charities that receive federal funding consider religion in employment decisions could invite a protest from those in his own party who view such faith requirements as discrimination”

...no kidding. Allowing religious preference for employment purposes, is that what I’m hearing. Has Obama read the constitution lately?

support some ability to hire and fire based on faith.

I'm guessing that Obama wants to fire Evangelical Christians.

What he is really trying to do, IMHO, is be on the side of the incumbent to snatch would-be votes for McCain away from him. He wants those who rally around the “change” mantra while at the same time, appeasing the others with talk of religious acceptance and defense of patriotisn. You can’t have it both ways, Barak.

Pander, pander, pander. This guy will say anything at all to get a vote. And it bothers him not one with that the majority of his big promises will never see the light of day. Words are what matters, just words.

Even some Libs are upset about this one, but many more are fine with it as long as it gets votes. Of course, they were all incensed over GWB’s program, but when Barry proposes it everything is hunky dory.

Why are they called “evangelicals”? Aren’t they evangelical Christians? Why take the Christ out of Christianity?

The media has been doing it for years.

How so? I've seen some wonderful work being done because of it.

I has been a disaster because it had corrupted churches and private charities with government welfare. Interestingly, the Great Society used the same strategy under its “maximum feasible participation rule” so Obama (and Bush)
is just following an old Democratic playbook.

Obama will receive at 96% of the black vote, of which the vast majority of these so-called faith based initiatives involve.

Bingo. Unfortunately, Bush gave him the weapon by creating FBP in the first place to accomplish this goal. Thanks a lot George!

Not for the left. By entangling government money with religion, our esteemed President has provided leftists like Obama to fund terrorists through muslim churches. I think we will see many instances in the next Democrat administration where Bush's supposedly conservative extensions of federal government power are turned on their head.

Amazing isn’t it that Obama sounds like the Biblical Anti-Christ, using philosophical, theological, ideas and rhetoric to TRICK so called naive Christians into believing that this naif is really for evangelism, spreading the Gospel and supporting Faith Based charities. He is fooling them again.

Obama’s Ex-Church Has Won $15M in Federal Grant Money
by FOXNews.com
Monday, June 2, 2008
By Jeff Goldblatt

Across America seven days a week, parents drop their kids at day care centers, which are supported by funding from the federal government.

But what makes one facility noteworthy in inner city Chicago is that it’s run by Trinity United Church of Christ. It’s the same church whose former head pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, drew widespread scrutiny after he cursed the U.S. government for its treatment of African-Americans.

FOX News has learned that over the last 15 years, Trinity has received at least $15 million in grants from the federal government — in other words, taxpayer money.

Since he can’t give money to Trinity and its ilk on his own anymore this is the best he can do for them.

I’m sure Obama would love for our tax dollars to support Trinity United’s charitable work.

That’s the problem with federal programs — if only the money could get to the good guys. But in our free society, a kook’s opinion is equal to a patriot’s under the law.

That’s why I don’t favor the return of public prayer to public school. I don’t want some imam’s heresy polluting our kids.
