McCain Travels To Latin America To Talk Trade
TradingMarketNews ^ | July 1, 2008 | TMNews

Posted on 07/01/2008 10:14:32 AM PDT by AuntB

(RTTNews) - Presidential hopeful John McCain is heading to Latin America this week to discuss a free trade, a touchy subject for many workers in the United States whose jobs have been shipped to countries with cheaper labor costs. He has said he wants to thank Latin American countries for their efforts in fighting drug trafficking, part of the reason he supports the Colombian Free Trade Agreement.

"I want to go to Colombia as it is a vital ally in our struggle against the scourge of drugs, a great amount of cocaine that comes into the United States of America, as we know, comes from Colombia," the Arizona Senator said. "Colombia has shown success, and I am strongly in favor of the free trade agreement between the United States and the nation of Colombia which is being blocked in the House of Representatives from even a vote."

The presumptive Republican nominee said Monday that he is working to convince struggling Americans that free trade is the best move for the United States and its economy. This includes support of the North American Free Trade Agreement between the United States, Canada, and Mexico which some have blamed for a decline in manufacturing jobs in the United States as companies sought out cheaper labor outside the U.S.

"I have to convince them the consequences of protectionism and isolationism could be damaging to their future," McCain said in Pennsylvania, where he campaigned Monday.

Presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama has often called for a renegotiation of NAFTA, even threatening to pull the United States out of the pact citing environmental and labor concerns. However, McCain stressed the importance of sticking to his word, despite changing his mind on several issues in recent weeks like offshore drilling and tax cuts for the nation's wealthy.

"I understand it's very tough. But for me to give up my advocacy of free trade would be a betrayal of trust," the presumptive Republican nominee said. "And the most precious commodity I have with the American people is that they trust me."

McCain will meet with Colombian President Alvaro Uribe Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday he will journey to Mexico to meet with President Felipe Calderon before venturing to Arizona Thursday to celebrate the July 4th holiday.

While in Mexico, McCain said that he would focus on immigration, a politically sensitive topic for the Arizona Senator.

"I want to work with the Mexican government on securing our border," he said. "It would be so much easier if we had the ability to trust our neighbors to the south as much as we trust our neighbors to the north as far as cooperation on border security is concerned."

Overall, McCain will focus on fostering relationships with Latin America, as well as demonstrating his ability to work on foreign policy.

"I think it's important our friends and neighbors understand our commitment to them," he said. "What happens in Colombia and Mexico is very important to the future of America."

Since a good percentage of their population and drugs are here illegally, I suppose it is.

Mmmmmmm.........McC the puppet performs well.

That's a quote taken right out of Juan Hernandez' Reconquista Handbook.

John McCain has been going across the country having “PRIVATE” meetings with Hispanics (read "SECRET" meetings).

John McCain’s favorite words at these meetings is Comprehensive Immigration Reform........saying if he is gonna win the Presidential election he will need the support of the Latino community.

He likes to say: ” My state has been enriched by the Hispanic culture in Arizona. I bet some did not know that Spanish was spoken in Arizona before English” with loud cheers from the audience.

(AZTLAN here we come) Watch for an October Surprise---Juan has A SIGNING CEREMONY TO GIVE THE SW BACK TO MEXICO.

Juan says: “I want to have some straight talk about our relationship with Mexico, our closest neighbor and dearest friend” and fighting drug cartels. “I was proud to work for Comprehensive Immigration Reform and if I am elected President I assure you that in 2009 I will ask Congress to pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform.” (Picture latinos going wild)

“It is a Federal Responsibility” Juan says. ” We also need a temporary guest worker program.…We have no Federal Policy, we cannot allow this to happen, he said, He repeated I assure you that I will work for Comprehensive Immigration Reform."

============================================

Tipster Edgar M. sends an English translation of an article from Diario Libre touting McCain’s promise to renew his shamnesty push for the “undocumented:”

New York - The Republican candidate for the White House, Senator John McCain, promised that if he wins, a day after he is sworn in as a new president of the United States, he will pressure Congress to enact a law immediately in favor of immigration reform.

The candidate that appears today eight points behind his Democrat rival Barack Obama, did the pronouncement in an interview that he granted to the Hispanic newspaper La Opinion in Los Angeles…

McCain said that it is completely false that [he] has abandoned his original commitment to fight for reform for the more than 12 million undocumented immigrants that reside in the United States and that includes the failed proposal of President Bush, to secure the borders first.

“This reform will be a priority in my administration because it is a convincing federal responsibility”, added the contender of the Republican Party. “We will undertake immigration reform and on the day after my inauguration, I will ask Congress to reconsider it, although I believe that first we have to secure our borders, set in motion a plan for guest workers that works and to focus on the issue of the undocumented in a humane and compassionate way.”

Charlie Black ia along for the Columbian ride, hand holding McCain. He just stepped down in March from his long time lobbyist position pimping for Occidental Petroleum’s stake in Columbia. He’s been up their butts for years and has been richly rewarded for his efforts. Occidental has less than a stellar reputation in Latin America, especially Columbia, where FARC rebels use Occidental’s pipeline fiasco with the natives as fuel to their revolutionary fire and giving the libs in Congress ammunition to stall Bush’d trade “free trade” deals. The lib media is already tracking this, of course. In the meantime the IRS is sniffing out U.S. investor tax dodge schemes developed by former UBS executive Phil Gramm- now carrying McCain’s economic strategy water.

McCain and his campaign staff are managing to actually surpass the ‘96 Bob Dole campaign fiasco for ineptitude and tone deafness. It’s laughable.

N-i-i-i-ce input, tad.

McC's surpassing the dopey Dole campaign fiasco takes mucho political will. Taco Juan's got it----thanks to his sucking up to "undocumented" drug-pushers.

....the IRS is sniffing out U.S. investor tax dodge schemes developed by former UBS executive Phil Gramm- now carrying McCain’s economic strategy water....

PLUS------just when Wall Street firms thought the worst of the credit crisis was over, investors in funky mortgage-tainted debt may unleash a fresh bout of pain for embattled banks like UBS.............

Wachovia halts negative amortization mortgages - Signature home loan of Golden West eliminated amid housing bust

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Wachovia Corp. said on Monday that it won't offer mortgages with negative amortization features anymore, one of the main types of home loans offered by Golden West, the mortgage giant the bank acquired for $24 billion roughly two years ago. Wachovia also said it's waiving pre-payment penalties on its so-called Pick-a-Pay mortgages, which allow borrowers to choose between several different monthly payments. The lower payment options increased the total amount owed on these mortgages, which is known as negative amortization. Wachovia agreed to acquire Golden West for more than $24 billion in May 2006, taking the bank deep into the mortgage market in California and other fast-growing regions at the peak of the housing boom. --SNIP--

Wachovia also faces regulatory pressures, including a federal investigation into alleged money laundering by Mexican and Colombian drug cartels and a SEC probe into how it marketed auction-rate securities.

Yep. I guess that’s why I’m trying to get folks not to vote for McCain. I think he short circuits conservatism for four or eight years. Obama has opposition. McCain doesn’t.

That being said, if folks want to vote for McCain realizing his potential threat vs Obama’s, I can understand it. What I can’t understand is folks trying to pass McCain off as some sort of reasoned moderate.

This guy is a wigged out leftist, his voting record be damned.

In a couple of days I’ll have a permanent tag on my posts revealing a very troublesome timeline with things that show McCain’s character throughout his life, who he’s been in bed with, and what bills he has co-written vs just voted for.

The guy is a mess.

You take care.

Conservatives have sold out to the left at the altar of Obama. It was very clever on the part of a few.

All I plan to do is sit back in sorrow and watch our decline. There seems to be very little to stop it.

I agree. Look, if the differences were as big as folks are trying to make them look like, I back the fear idea.

I think we are being herded into a decision here, and I don’t want it happening unless folks know all the angles before they jump.

Have you noticed how many articles are poping up trashing Obama on what you might consider silly or outlandish terms?

Is that really what we want to base our decision on, unrealistic fearmongering?

This whole election has been total manipulation from the very beginning. Anyone who believes our election process to be pretty clean is fooling themselves.

When you can get people to vote for what they are totally against, that is a win for some entity, and it does not bode well for the future.

When you get down to it, it’s rather simple isn’t it.

The folks on the left will be voting for exactly what they want.

And we will be voting against what we want.

I think you’re right on target.

I refuse to be a part of this. I refuse to prove that the Republican party can win an election with a George Soros, Teressa Heinz Kerry, and company mule.

If they can, then Conservatism is for all intents and purposes without a pot to whiz in.

I have found a few criticisms of McCain to be rather funny, as if he were a solid Conservative on the issue to begin with.

I think there’s some demonization going on, on both sides this year. There always is, but it’s gotten kindof absurd this year IMO.

It is definitly absurd when libs try to say McCain has moved right on immigration. I believe they do this to try to convince Dems, like the Hillary girls, that McCain is too conservative for them.

Now we both know that is absurd. After all McCain stated Hillary would make a good President. Probably about the same as him, come to think of it.

I really don’t know how much good it is going to do to focus on ths Obama birth certificate thing, or Larry Sinclair. Problem is when you focus on those things you open yourslef up for some payback.

What it tells me is that people have little or no confidence in their candidate.

What’s laughable is candidates who are running on the John Kerry platform, like voting for such things like Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Patriot Act, and then rallying against both Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Patriot Act (like Bob Barr). What’s also laughable are those posters who run around calling the threat of terrorism a mere ‘boogyman’, all the while pretending that the isolationist Libertarians are the true conservatives. Now they want Obama to win because he shares their suicidal BAF foreign policy views.
