ABC News, "CBS Evening News With Katie Couric" win Murrow Awards

It might run third in the ratings, but the "CBS Evening News With Katie Couric" has won an Edward R. Murrow Award for best newscast. I hope CBS starts playing up the deserved prize in promotion. The award should bring attention to the program: It's a far better newscast than the ratings suggest.

The Murrow Awards were announced Tuesday by the Radio-Television News Directors Association.

ABC News won eight Murrow Awards in all, notably the one for overall excellence.

But it was a good day, too, for CBS News, which won nine prizes across various platforms. The Couric broadcast was cited for Lara Logan's reporting on soldiers serving in Iraq. Kimberly Dozier, who was injured when reporting in Iraq, was honored for her feature reporting for "CBS News Sunday Morning" on female Iraq veterans.

“It’s a far better newscast than the ratings suggest.”

Getting an award for best nightly newscast is like getting an award for having the best pig at the country fair.

"The foolish people do not recognize the high quality of the slop we feed them. Well, we will continue to give them this slop until they recognize how lucky they are to have access to shows of such quality. They will come around eventually. I mean, where else are they going to go for their news???"

Outstanding! CBS News should definitely keep Katie. If her numbers continue to tank, then she will win even more phony awards!!!! What a great plan for CBS news.

Maybe the program is, but the host is a sniveling left-wing liberal who has lost most of her viewership by consistently slanting her reporting to the left.

Just more liberals patting each other on the back for being good liberals. Nothing to see here.

No. Getting an award for the best nightly newscast is like getting an award for just showing up at the county fair. All you have to do is be there.

I didn't realize this was awarded posthumously for the given show...

Glad to see NBC - National Barack Channel - shut out.

This will have the nutroots foaming at the mouth. They hate ABC News.

If perky Katie’s puff journalism represents award winning broadcast news, the standards for receiving the award must be pretty low.

The Couric broadcast was cited for Lara Logan's reporting on soldiers serving in Iraq.

Was that for the reporting where she asked 56 soldiers who they would vote for and 50 said McCain, 4 said Obama and 2 said hillary.

So CBS showed the 4 Obama-ites and one hillary fan but NO McCain supporters at all.

Yup, that would warrant a Morrow award.

"The Couric broadcast was cited for Lara Logan's reporting on soldiers serving in Iraq."

CORRECTION: "The Couric program was cited for Lara Logan's heroic 'servicing' of male TV correspondents in Iraq.

There, fixed it!!!
