Haysbert: Prez role on `24' may have helped Obama
Charlotte Observer ^

Posted on 07/02/2008 9:02:53 AM PDT by frankiep

RENO, Nev. --Dennis Haysbert likes to believe his portrayal as the first African-American U.S. president on Fox's "24" may have helped pave the way for Barack Obama.

"If anything, my portrayal of David Palmer, I think, may have helped open the eyes of the American people," said the actor, who has contributed $2,300 to the Illinois Democrat's presidential campaign.

"And I mean the American people from across the board - from the poorest to the richest, every color and creed, every religious base - to prove the possibility there could be an African-American president, a female president, any type of president that puts the people first," he said Tuesday.

I'm so glad we have all of these Hollywood types who are so much more noble than us simpletons to point out that we are all inherently racist, ignorant, hicks who need their guidance to see the way to enlightenment.

The arrogance and outright disdain for other Americans displayed by this man, and just about every other supporter of His Holy Name, is beyond sickening. This campaign isn't even about Obama anymore. The DNC and media are turning this campaign into people who are "enlightened" enough to vote for a black man against ignorant, racist hicks who are afraid of all non-whites. Honestly, according to them, the actual candidates do not even matter.

I guess that’s the reason I’m not an Obama supporter—I’ve never seen an episode of 24. No 24—no epiphany.

A black man who for 20 years attended a racist black nationalist church & counts domestic & international America-hating terrorists among his supporters.

It transcends irony.

Yep there are agendas out there.

In the movie “Deep Impact”, Morgan Freeman was the president. In “Air Force One”, Glenn Close was the vice-president. And that great show “Commander in Chief”, had Geena Davis pretending to be Hillary Clinton as a woman president. And there are probably others too, where a woman or minority was shown in a high position, and they did that to make their political statement.

Yeah, and if Hillary! got the nomination then we'd be talking about whatever that failed show was on ABC where Geena Davis was Prez.

You can find anything you want, if you look hard enough.

BTW, I've got my "Jack Bauer '08" T-Shirt. He's more qualified than either one of the current yahoos.

yeah I gotta say +1 to that. seems a little too convenient right here to have a guy with his internationalist “credentials” get pushed to the front the way he was. that would be the glass half full view. It’s pretty obvious our world is changing when you see the CNN website give prominence to and offer an Arabic version.

The half empty uneasy feeling comes when you think about the kind of cash and organization the ME and other oil producing nations can put on the table. They can buy us, sad to say.

No question about it.

As I watched the empty suit known as Obama climb out of the politically corrupt sewer called “Chicago” to become the candidate, the impact of “24” was one of the first thoughts to cross my alleged.

To bad about Haysbert. He USED to be one of my favorite actors and really enjoyed his character in the David Mamet produced and written “The Unit” trash the UN and the Euroweenies.

Looks like I’ll have to keep searching for a black actor with a functioning brain.

Did you see “Deep Impact?” Morgan Freeman was the president, so you might have had an epiphany and forgot about it.

This is all too silly. The GOP was ready to get behind the very viable Colin Powell for president in 1996, but he didn’t want to run.

But that role went a long way to SET THE STAGE for the empty suit known as Obama.

“People get the government they deserve.” Joseph deMaistre.

And when people become THIS freaking STUPID and inattentive to their freedoms, THIS is the candidate they deserve.

He was off'd in his brother (and future president) Wayne Palmer's apartment in Los Angeles, first 10 minutes of Day 5. Charles Logan was complicit in the killing.

Why aren't people calling Obama a white guy? His mother is white. He was raised by a white family (grandmother). Doesn't that make him white?

Sounds like a joke, but think about it.... miscegenation laws in the old U.S. were based on the idea that if you had a drop of "colored" blood, that made you colored (or at least tainted, in more "liberal" jurisdictions). Aren't people who call Obama black/colored/African-American acting racist, by automatically labelling him as such, just because he has some "black blood" in him?

Those who don't watch "24" either know him from the Allstate commercials, or when he played Cerrano on Major League (which is, to this Tribe fan, the greatest baseball movie of all time) back in '89.

And, following Mr. Haysbert’s claim, does that mean that Obama will have a “take-no-prisoners, kick-butt-and-kill-all-enemies-of-America” white guy in the Counter Terrorist Unit who actually saves America from terrorist threats?

It’s all part of the Superman legend, now isn’t it. Raised on a Kansas farm by his kindly aged adopted parents. discovered one day by accident he could outdebate the scarecrow in a single reply. and the rest is history.

I never thought I would be rooting for General Zod to make his appearance but here we are.
