FORT WRIGHT, Ky. Police in northern Kentucky arrested a woman who officers say traded sex for gasoline.
Police in Fort Wright set up a prostitution sting and said one of the suspects they arrested engaged in sex for a $100 gasoline card and other gifts.
Angela Eversole, 34, of Fort Wright is charged with prostitution and doing business without an occupational license. She pleaded not guilty at a Tuesday arraignment.
Police also arrested a man they said paid Eversole. He is 50-year-old Kenneth Nowak of Avon, Indiana.

What leg (no pun intended) does the government really have to stand on when going after this kind of act anymore? If it is between two consenting adults, who cares.

Guys, if you're having sex with your girlfriend, don't give her any more presents.
You too could be in jail for, "promoting prostitution".

What I find weird is that if you do it in front of a camera it is considered art. If you have sex for free then buy the women dinner or a gift it is called a date. If you pay her for sex it is a crime.
All acts are sick in my opinion but there is no difference between them.

Sort of like how they will bust drug dealers with tax evasion and failure to report income. It gives the DA leverage in forcing a plea deal and saves the courts time and money.

charged with ... doing business without an occupational license Wow, didn't know that was an available license! I guess prostitution is now legal since the State can prosecute you for not being registered with the state when practicing a profession...
But more importantly, I'm always kind of surprised about these. If they had a one-night-stand casual hook-up, and then he gave her the gas card as a gift, no problem. WTF?

So is there an option for a hooker to get an occupational license in Kentucky? If they can fine her for it, it only stands to reason she could have been legal from a paperwork perspective.

What leg (no pun intended) does the government really have to stand on when going after this kind of act anymore? If it is between two consenting adults, who cares. I know. This is just stupid. If he had taken her out to dinner and bought her a gold bracelet which she later pawned for gas money, what difference would it have been?
And it took a police sting operation to catch these two arch criminals? What a complete waste of law enforcement resources.

To: DonaldC
Like I said, it is a trumped up charge. She may have an out here as only material items were given in exchange for sex, not money. To be quite honest I think prostitution laws are dumb. I can see not wanting to have these women hang around street corners and such. Just force them into bars or clubs and the problem will be solved. Also it seems craigslist has become the hightech way to pimp yourself out.

I agree that prostitution should be legalized. It was legal until the Womens Christian Temperance Union got its way after WWI, along with Prohibition. Those Christian women are to blame for all kinds of crime and misery.

It all comes down to money. If the government can get a cut of the profits they are all happy about it. But hookers and pimps don’t keep good financial records.

To: LukeL
Neither do grocery stores, hair salons, restaurants, etc.
If prostitution were legalized, whores and pimps would pay taxes on their trade like other self employed cash-based businesses.
In Nevada, the legal brothels must pay good taxes. They could at least make fancy brothels legal, and leave the streetwalkers out in the cold.
The govt reaps huge fortunes from all kinds of other sin industries, like gambling and tobacco.

Sure, but the licensing fees would be huge for a brothel. Not to mention the health care costs that would result. Can you imagine a union of prostitutes. The taxpayers would have to subsidize the industry for sure.
