Singer subs 'black anthem' for 'Star Spangled Banner'

A singer who was to perform the "Star Spangled Banner" at the presentation of Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper's State of the City address yesterday substituted the "Black National Anthem" without notifying anyone, because she says as a black, she just doesn't feel American.

"I pulled a switcheroonie on them," Rene Marie said in a report in the Denver Post.

In a video of the event, Marie had been introduced by city council president Michael Hancock, who said she would sing the national anthem. Instead, she sang "Lift Every Voice and Sing," also known as the "Black National Anthem," to the tune of the "Star-Spangled Banner."

Audience members were bewildered, council members outraged and the mayor expressed his disappointment.

"We were as surprised as anyone that jazz singer Rene Marie did not sing our national anthem at today's State of the City ceremony, as our staff had requested. As I listened to her sing, I assumed she would eventually move into the traditional Star Spangled Banner," Hickenlooper said in a statement.

Council member Charlie Brown said, "There is no substitute for the national anthem. Period. This is the State of the City address. It's not an NAACP convention."

I just heard on KABC that the black national anthem was played at graduation at Antelope Valley HS. The caller said they played that before the real one.

She probably did it for the specific intent of provoking racial comments from the right, even though the real issue is her disgracing the Star Spangled Banner and the nation by singing some Black Liberation Theology/racist/Marxist song in its place.

Re Germans who left Germany when they no longer felt German.... I hear that.

My ancestors were from Norway — emigrated legally to NY and then Northern Illinois, learned English fast as they could, and changed their Norwegian surname to an “English sounding name” because “We are living in an English speaking country.” This was in, oh, about 1906!!!!

You can be sure these people were not flying the Norwegian flag nor singing any Norwegian anthems. They were Americans now, and proud of it.

As a friend of mine (a Democrat who doesn’t know what on earth to do about this election) says: “If Obama gets elected it’ll be non-stop chicken and watermelon in that White House for his term and I don’t want to send that message.”

Sounds racist, I know -— and that was from a lifelong Democrat.

The bitch isn't even much of a singer.

Jonny, Netizen and RK, if you haven't seen this already, take a look at this nonsense. Someone invited to sing the National Anthem at the State of the City event in Denver sucker punches everyone by singing the "Black National Anthem" instead -- to the tune of the real "Star Spangled Banner."

The anarchists and nihilists must be ecstatic today because each one does what is right in his or her own sight. If you’re asked to sing the national anthem, you can substitute anything you please, not tell anyone, and no one can say a thing. Everyone in the world should affirm your decision no matter who else is in the audience or what else they expected to hear.

No more rules or even expectations anymore, you can do whatever you want whenever you want. The values of the godless are now on full display.

May the Lord have mercy on all the backward souls. They surely have no idea what they’re doing. May He have mercy on the rest of us because utter chaos will certainly be the result.

If Miss Rene doesn’t feel like an American anymore, just leave and go somewhere else where you are more comfortable. I hear Africa is very nice this time of year and you’ll see a lot of YOUR people there. You may NOT get to take your American money with you but hey, you don’t feel like you belong here anyway.

This is nothing new. When I was in high schoolin PG County Maryland, the “Black” national anthem frequently replaced the National Anthem at assemblies etc. I nearly got my butt kicked for not standing up for it. Regardless, I always stayed seated when they played that crap. Going to a black public school will show you who the real racists in America are.

I fear you are right. With Obama we will see more black racist talk. There will be “white Taxes” on people visiting Black inner cities and moves to have black votes count as two to every white vote (one of Clinton’s friends really advocated this). Reparations are coming too and moves to make this song equal to the Star Spangled Banner. I fear that far from uniting us—Obama will divide the USA into two waring camps of Blacks vs Whites.

“One of the most disgusting acts against America I have ever seen or heard.”

You ain’t seen nothing yet. What should we think of the fact that Congress still does not allow increased drilling for oil while people on minimum wage are losing their jobs simply because they can’t afford the gasoline bill?

Basterdizing the national anthem is bad enough but ruining people’s livelihood is far worse.

There will come a day again, when people like this are dragged outside and shot. I hope I live to see it.

That is ridiculous. I hope they didn’t pay her as she was hired to sing the National Anthem. She thinks she was just so cute as evidenced by her little quote, “I pulled a switcheroonie on them,” Rene Marie said.

Funny, they didn't mention Lucy, Snoopy, and Peppermint Patty's opinions.

Funny thing is, that the song was originally a celebration of Lincoln freeing the slaves. Not even the same tune.

One of this POS’s “artistic” things is to insert lyrics from different songs into originals.
