“Jihad Detainees Reveal Mass Recruitment Via Internet”
Written by The Media Line Staff
Published Wednesday, July 02, 2008
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Confessions of several detainees in Saudi Arabia are providing an indication of the extant Jihadi websites are impacting on potential Al-Qaida recruits.
Detained terror suspects explained in televised interviews broadcast on Saudi television on Tuesday how Al-Qaida was using the Internet as a tool to recruit new members and propagate radical ideology.
Detainees said they were inspired by Jihadi films and statements by Al-Qaida chief Osama Bin Laden and other leading Jihad figures, which were posted on the Internet.
The interviewees included the Egyptian Abu Azzam Al-Ansari, who is editor of the online Sada Al-Jihad (Jihad Echo) magazine, and Um Usama, editor of the Al-Khansa magazine.
Those interviewed said the Internet was their preferred means of recruiting people and propagating their ideas, because it provided relative security, especially since none of the participants in the forums know each others identities.
Detained Al-Qaida suspects have admitted to joining the organization after following news of the fighters in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The televised reports said these radical websites promised their readers they would reach paradise if they participated in holy war, propaganda and training. The websites base their legitimacy on fatwas or religious decrees of well-known religious figures in order to persuade youngsters to join their ranks.”
And thanks.
Right.
It’s just that some poster told me on another thread that “All;” doesn’t work any more. Was turned off.
Seems to me it works on this thread, right?

ICE, Wichita PD arrest 22 local-area gang members, associates
Joint operation was part of ICE’s “Operation Community Shield”
WICHITA, Kan. - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Wichita Police Department today announced the arrest of 22 transnational gang members and their associates during this latest joint local effort of an ongoing national ICE program called “Operation Community Shield.”
Each of the 22 individuals was arrested for their membership, participation or association with violent street gangs. Members or associates of four street gangs were arrested during this operation, including: Vato Loco Boys, Sureno 13, Players for Life, and North Side Gangsters.
Nine gang members were arrested during the planning phase of the operation based on outstanding state arrest warrants, which included: burglary, theft, assault, drive-by shootings, weapons violations, and various misdemeanor charges. They are currently in state custody awaiting disposition on their criminal charges. ICE placed detainers on all nine gang members so that if they’re released from state custody for any reason, they’ll be transferred to ICE.
The other 13 gang members are illegal aliens who were arrested during the one-day culmination of the Community Shield operation on Tuesday. All 13 are currently in ICE custody pending return to their countries of origin. Three juvenile gang member brothers with serious juvenile criminal histories were arrested with their mother during this operation; they will all be voluntarily returned to Mexico.
All those arrested are from Mexico. Following any judicial proceedings and sentences, all will be returned to Mexico.
“ICE has unique immigration and customs law enforcement authorities which complement the authorities of our federal, state and local partners,” said Antonio Farias, resident agent in charge of the ICE Office of Investigations in Wichita. “Together, we can effectively remove dangerous gang members and their associates from the streets to make our communities safer. We look forward to working with Wichita PD to accomplish our common goal of combating crime.”
“This operation reflects the Wichita Police Department’s philosophy of working with other law enforcement agencies, such as ICE, to remove violent gang members from our community,” said Wichita Police Chief Norman D. Williams. “The Wichita Police Department will continue to aggressively address gang violence to make Wichita a safe and secure community.”
About Operation Community Shield
Operation Community Shield is a national law enforcement initiative that partners ICE with other federal, state and local law enforcement, combining resources, authorities and expertise in an effort to target members of violent street gangs. Since ICE began Operation Community Shield in February 2005, more than 8,000 gang members belonging to more than 700 different gangs have been arrested. More information on Operation Community Shield is available at: www.ice.gov.
Under this initiative, ICE works to:
Identify violent gangs and develop intelligence on their members, associates and organizations.
Deter, disrupt and dismantle gang operations by tracing and seizing their cash, weapons and other assets
Criminally prosecute or remove gang members from the United States.
Partner with other law enforcement agencies at the local, state and federal level - both in the United States and abroad - to develop a “force multiplier” effect in investigations and other law enforcement actions against gangs.
Conduct outreach efforts to boost public awareness about the fight against violent gangs.
The public is encouraged to report suspicious activity by calling ICE’s toll-free hotline at: 1-866-347-2423. This hotline is staffed around the clock.

The media have reported a series of explosions near and in the separatist region of Abkhazia over the past several days. Abkhaz de facto authorities declared a state of emergency in the region that may last for some time and reportedly closed the administrative boundary between Georgia and the separatist-controlled region on July 1. Due to these events, we would like to reiterate that the U.S. Embassy advises Americans not to travel to the separatist-controlled regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Any American citizens currently in the separatist-controlled regions, regardless of purpose, should register with the U.S. Embassy either through the State Department website at the website listed in the message below or by visiting the Consular Section from 2-5 pm on business days for American Citizens Services. The U.S. Embassy recommends that Americans regularly monitor warden messages on the Embassy web site for the latest information on the security situation throughout Georgia.
American citizens should stay current with media coverage of local events and be aware of their surroundings at all times. American citizens in Tbilisi may also tune in to Radio Syndicati at FM 104.3 or throughout Georgia at Radio Green Wave at FM 107.4 for updated US Embassy warden message information for US citizens.
For the latest security information, Americans living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Departments Bureau of Consular Affairs Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov, where the current Worldwide Caution, Travel Warnings, Travel Alerts, and health information resources can be found. “Jordan’s Legal Jihad”
By Stephen Brown
FrontPageMagazine.com | Thursday, July 03, 2008
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “In a brazen attempt to stifle free speech in the West, a Jordanian court recently summoned twelve European citizens to answer criminal charges of blasphemy and inciting hatred.
Among those sought by the court is Geert Wilders, the Dutch liberal politician who made the anti-Islamist film, Fitna. Released last March, the Dutch MPs production caused an uproar in Islamic countries, since it equated Islam with violence. Now a Middle Eastern court would like to prosecute Wilders for the crime. (Ironically, a Dutch court dropped charges against him for inciting hatred against Muslims with his film the day before the Jordanian court issued its subpoena.)
The Jordanian courts move is only the most ambitious attempt to silence debate about Islam. Until now, the preferred strategy has been to file civil lawsuits in western courts to intimidate critics. The latest version of what may be called the legal jihad is even more disturbing.”

“Khaleej Times Online >> News >> MIDDLE EAST Iran mulls death penalty for Internet crimes”
(AFP)
2 July 2008
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “TEHERAN - Iran’s parliament is set to debate a draft bill which could see the death penalty used for those deemed to promote corruption, prostitution and apostasy on the Internet, reports said on Wednesday.
MPs on Wednesday voted to discuss as a priority the draft bill which seeks to “toughen punishment for harming mental security in society,” the ISNA news agency said.
The text lists a wide range of crimes such rape and armed robbery for which the death penalty is already applicable. The crime of apostasy (the act of leaving a religion, in this case Islam) is also already punishable by death.
However, the draft bill also includes “establishing weblogs and sites promoting corruption, prostitution and apostasy”, which is a new addition to crimes punishable by death.
Those convicted of these crimes “should be punished as “mohareb’ (enemy of God) and “corrupt on the earth’,” the text says.
Under Iranian law the standard punishments for these two crimes are “hanging, amputation of the right hand and then the left foot as well as exile.”
The bill — which is yet to be debated by lawmakers — also stipulates that the punishment handed out in these cases “cannot be commuted, suspended or changed”.”

Al-Qaeda attacks averted across Iraq
BAGHDAD Coalition forces conducted operations spanning central and northwestern Iraq Wednesday and Thursday, killing two terrorists and detaining 10 suspected terrorists while targeting al-Qaeda networks.
A precision operation in Baghdad Wednesday netted a man assessed to be the leader of multiple al-Qaeda in Iraq cells in the Southern Belt around the city. The suspect is believed to be responsible for bombings, kidnappings and attacks against Coalition forces. Also Wednesday, Coalition forces in Baghdad detained a man suspected of involvement in the AQI propaganda network.
In Mosul Thursday, Coalition forces captured an alleged terrorist leader and one suspected associate. The alleged leader is assessed to oversee kidnappings, assassinations and extortion operations.
Coalition forces targeted an AQI foreign terrorist facilitator Thursday near Ribat, a town along the Euphrates River near the Iraq-Syria border. As the force secured the building, one terrorist ran to the back and barricaded himself in a room with a weapon. Coalition forces perceived a hostile threat and engaged the terrorist, killing him. The terrorist was later identified as the targeted individual, who helped foreign terrorists cross into Iraq to conduct attacks. Three additional suspects were detained.
In Sharqat, about 90 kilometers south of Mosul, Coalition forces targeted the leader of a local AQI cell Thursday. When the force called for occupants of a building to surrender, two people complied but one man refused to follow Coalition forces instructions. Perceiving hostile intent from the man, Coalition forces engaged and killed him. On the roof, Coalition forces discovered a suicide vest, and outside the building, they found an underground tunnel. They safely destroyed the explosives and tunnel, and detained three suspected terrorists in the operation.

“Google must divulge YouTube log”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Google must divulge the viewing habits of every user who has ever watched any video on YouTube, a US court has ruled.
The ruling comes as part of Google’s legal battle with Viacom over allegations of copyright infringement.
Digital rights group the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) called the ruling a “set-back to privacy rights”.
The viewing log, which will be handed to Viacom, contains the log-in ID of users, the computer IP address (online identifier) and video clip details.
While the legal battle between the two firms is being contested in the US, it is thought the ruling will apply to YouTube users and their viewing habits everywhere.
Viacom, which owns MTV and Paramount Pictures, has alleged that YouTube is guilty of massive copyright infringement.
The UK’s Premier League association is also seeking class action status with Viacom on the issue, alleging YouTube, which was bought by Google in 2006, has been used to watch football highlights.”

“Iran in Preparations, Deployment to Withstand Possible Attack by West”
By: Y. Mansharof AND A. Savyon
Introduction
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Despite confident pronouncements by Iranian leaders that the West will not dare to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities, [1] the Iranian regime has, on orders from Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, been preparing for this eventuality by means of a comprehensive emergency plan called “Passive Defense.” [2] Examination of the plan reveals that the regime’s main fear is of an attack on Iran’s vital infrastructures, which would ultimately lead to its downfall. Therefore, alongside a defense doctrine based on preemptive attack, long-range ballistic missiles, and asymmetric guerilla warfare, [3] it has formulated a doctrine of “passive defense,” based mainly on cooperation between regional Passive Defense Councils and the regime’s popular militia, the Basij.
In fact, analysis of the plan reveals that the Basij plays a central role in it.”

Sharia law ‘could have role in UK’

Sharia law could play a role in some parts of the legal system, the most senior judge in England and Wales has said.
The Lord Chief Justice, Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers, emphatically ruled out the possibility of sharia courts sitting in this country or deciding penalties.
But in a speech at the East London Muslim Centre in Whitechapel he said there was no reason why sharia principles could not be used in “mediation or other forms of alternative dispute resolution”.
Sharia - a set of principles governing the way that many Muslims believe one should live one’s life - suffered from “widespread misunderstanding” by the rest of the world, he added.
Lord Phillips said: “There is no reason why sharia principles, or any other religious code, should not be the basis for mediation or other forms of alternative dispute resolution.
“It must be recognised, however, that any sanctions for a failure to comply with the agreed terms of mediation would be drawn from the laws of England and Wales.”
The Lord Chief Justice told his audience that severe physical punishments such as flogging, stoning and the cutting off of hands would not be acceptable.

Muslim councillor Hasina Khan: I will not let male bigots win
Timesonline.co.uk ^ | July 3, 2008 | Marcus Leroux
Posted on July 3, 2008 2:54:30 PM PDT by forkinsocket
A female Muslim councillor has been subjected to a hate campaign by Muslim men in her ward, leaving her unable to visit some of the streets that she represents.
Hasina Khan, 38, the only Muslim councillor in Chorley, Lancashire, said that she had suffered a barrage of threatening phone calls, verbal abuse and insulting graffiti because the men objected her public role.
Mrs Khan, a mother of three, said: I’ve had to totally change the way I go about my job. I used to do ward walks all the time, but now there are some streets I can’t even walk down.
The hate campaign began when she put herself forward as a Labour candidate three years ago. It is just a few members of the community who think I should be at home with a veil over my face, although if other people choose to do that, then I respect their choice, she said.
However, I feel that if it was a male Asian councillor then he would be treated as a hero. Because I am a woman I get the opposite treatment. They can’t understand my mainstream views and those of live and let live’ and how the British culture should be respected ... It has been extremely hard for me and my family and if it wasn’t for my British constituents, I don’t think I would have been able to get through it.
Terry Brown, the Mayor of Chorley, who represents the same ward as Mrs Khan, said: Because she’s a female Asian woman their view is that she should be at home producing babies.
