Tommy’s a class act. I remember that he was one of the few celebrities that took a stand in favor of allowing Elian Gonzalez to stay in the United States. In his speech on the issue, he addressed the EVILS of communism. This son of Norristown will always be good people in my book.
What a great video statement. Thanks for the ping. He always made his hometown proud.
He’s the reason I’ve been a Dodger’s fan for over 20 years. Long story short: some friends and I (who were huge Braves fans) went to see the Dodgers play the Braves in Atlanta (Joe Torre was their manager) when we kids. We wanted to get some autographs and talk to some of our “idols” during warmups. Joe Torre was such a rude ass he told us to leave the dugout area, he didn’t want his players bothered. We went over to the Dodgers’ dugout, Tommy Lasorda invited us down into the dugout so we could see what it was like to sit in it, he answered all the questions we could think of, and he pulled his players off the field to come and talk to us. We told him then he had made the Dodgers some new fans- we cheered for them the whole game even though we all had our Braves gear on (we weren’t too popular with that part of the crowd because we were sitting behind the Brave’s dugout).
