Summer of Our Discontent
NRO ^ | July 3, 2008 | Jennifer Graham

Asked if I wanted to write a summer-vacation survival guide, I snorted and said I’d be happy to read one. And, anyway, whose survival is it that we’re seeking to ensure? If it’s that of the children — newly released from the rigors of the public-school system, where, this past year, one of mine watched A Bug’s Life in eighth-grade English class — I’ll pass. I’ve been to Chuck E. Cheese and surveyed the population; we can afford to lose a few thousand of ‘em without jeopardizing the replacement rate.

That article is nothing more than three pages of bitching about the kids being out of school, and at home.

I suffered through reading it and thankfully it was short. But don't empathize or sympathize with her. We home-school. Whoever this lady is, I believe she's one of those insufferable soccer moms. She writes as if she's out of sorts because her kids are in her presence TOO often when they're out of school, and she makes it sound like a bad thing. She's a MOM for Pete's sake!

She doesn't have a problem. She has a penchant for bitching and then writing it down.

What a crappy article.

I did think it was interesting that she mentioned one child exclaiming that he was bored. My three learned long, long ago to never utter that word around their Mother! We don't have boredom here! Just ask the kids! :-)

One of the things I loved about my Mom was that when all the other mothers and fathers were complaining about the kids being home for summer- she was happy about it. And hated to see me go back to school.

Geez lady, send them to summer camp and end both of our pain!

I loved summer and really enjoyed the kids time off. We always had so much fun. I was almost depressed when they started back to school in the fall.

Jennifer, you will look back on the days when your kids were young and regret every second you b*tched about it. Your just reward, I say!

That picture suggests a project for an ambitious FReeper with more spare time than I have at the moment (going on vacation, you see):

Get a program which will take two photographs and morph one into the other, and feed in Obama and Jimmy Dhimmi Carter.

Be fun to see what comes out!

Cheers!

Yeah... :-) My Mom was the same way. She wouldn't understand this lady at ALL.

She better learn to foster and make those times that are priceless to look back on. Kids grow up so fast, and the opportunities pass. She'll simply miss them and that will be the end of that.

“one of mine watched A Bug’s Life in eighth-grade English class”

You can learn to write good English by reading good English. This novel learning idea has probably not occurred to our geniuses in the NEA.

Today’s teachers only teach kids to be outraged about the things the teacher is outraged about.
