Two men tried to rob an Nashville Sonic restaurant, but an assistant manager pulled out a gun and fired shots, causing the suspects to flee. Police believe that one or both of the suspects was wounded.
Metro police Capt. Michele Donegan said that at approximately 10:30 p.m. Thursday, two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, went inside the Sonic at 1410 Robinson Road, in Old Hickory. Several employees were at the restaurant, and numerous customers were at the tables outside and at the drive-ups. The armed suspect showed the gun. The assistant manager then pulled out a gun and fired several shots, Donegan said. The two men fled out the door without firing. Police are still looking for them.
After police arrived on the scene, they followed a blood trail leading across the parking and ending at a car wash. Police think that there was probably a third person with a car that they fled in. Police searched the wooded area behind the car wash using the canine and helicopter units to be sure.
No employees or customers were hurt.
The assistant manager has a carry permit, according to police.
Police are following up on some leads in the incident, which happened in the Hermitage Precinct.
Detailed descriptions of the suspects were not available early Friday morning. "It happened very quickly ... It was extremely fast," Donegan said.
? LEIGH RAY
Good job.
It's sort of a lower middle class environ with some nice lake areas close by too. Wiggahs is my guess.
Once again a gun thwarts a crime.
score one for the good guys.
Since the Supreme court ruled it seems as if being a robber/thief has become an unhealthy profession to be in.
If some of you thugs are reading this - take heed. You attempt the crime, expect to get your $ss blown to pieces.
“The assistant manager has a carry permit, according to police.”
This gutsy gentleman not only prevented a robbery, but could just as easily have prevented the murder of every patron in the store.
The bad news: He's out of a job.
Yeah, that old presumption of innoncence thing gets tiresome. After all, the point is to punish someone, not find the real criminal. Nobody innocent has ever been accused. Never has a person shot another and then falsely claimed self-defense!

I hope that justice is served...too often, it’s not. :-(
Good news!
Sorry, a thug sticking up a store is nothing but a “robber” — PC be damned. You must be an attorney.
Yeah, that old presumption of innoncence thing gets tiresome.
+++++++++++++++
Now, don’t jump the gun here. I’m sure the one young gentleman was showing the gun in an offer to sell it. It’s very likely that he had no intention of anything else. /s
The bad news: He’s out of a job.
If so...it’s not worth it after all. Good for the Manager. He saved lives that day. THAT’S what is GOOD about guns!!!
Pretty soon someone will post a comment that a hamburger isn’t worth a human life! I think this manager needs to be given a medal and further marksmanship training or a larger caliber piece.
And if he hadn't?
I guess that ole 2nd amendment would have said otherwise.
I’ll bet the gunman held it sideways like in the rap videos
Was it really a robbery or were they just tired of waiting on their food?
Sonic food is slow and cold
Then start your own newspaper and fund your own defense.
You must be an attorney.
What a nasty accusation! Most certainly, I am not!
I trust wardaddy's description of the situation, and his acquaintance with the owner involved, but I don't think we want to base our justice system on hearsay and personal relationships.
I'm assuming you're not ignorant of such cases as the teacher Greg Abbott, who was arrested for having drugs and a gun, based on an anonymous call. Fortunately for him, he wasn't presumed guilty, as his estranged wife and her male acquaintance are now behind bars.
Then there is the case not so long ago (that was an example of something not uncommon), where a business owner (gas station) shot a guy who came in, and claimed self-defense. He might have gotten away with the murder, had he simply arranged a time for his victim to come over, but he made the mistake of calling the victim and asking him to come over--thus revealing that his story was false and it was not a robbery.
But that's for others. For you, I'll remember that if you're ever accused, you'll want the government to punish you immediately.
Let's hope Sonic doesn't call for his head like 7-eleven would.
I agree. I’d hire the guy in a second.
Correction. Score one for the right to carry. And every patron, every employee should be thankful the individual that went through the extensive training necessary to carry.
My bet is he'll be out of a job. Corporate America generally lines up with the gun-grabbers.
And have you noticed that sometimes the news media doesn’t even use the word “suspect”? Sometimes reports indicate that police are seeking a “person of interest” in a criminal investigation. Yep politically correct language is used more and more nowadays.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
I'm sick and tired of the criminal being given the benefit of the doubt but the victim's actions are described in absolute terms. Why hell doesn't the headline say "Nashville robbery ends when restaurant manager alledgely shoots suspect"
Happy Independence Day!
Agreed.
I guess their recent (April) executive promotions had an effect... ;-)
Also, I understand they are now going to expect customers to tip the employees so they don't have to pay minimum wage.
That’s more than political correctness...there are differences in the two terms.
Hmmm...
The armed suspect showed the gun. The assistant manager then pulled out a gun and fired several shots, Donegan said.
what the heck happened? they dropped 1/2
No, he’s not out of a job.
Suspect, not perpetrator. "Suspect" presumes innocence yet the victim has already been judged by the "reporter".
You don't think Sonic will fire him?(I hope not, but Pizza Hut, 7-11 and many others do.) Corporate America seems to hate guns in the hands of its retail employees.
I doubt too many armed robbers read FR.
The guy was arrested in Gallatin today when he came into Sumner Regional saying someone shot him as he was walking down the street. He will be charged as soon as he’s released from the hospital
The assumption of innocence is for the courts.
It seems to me a journalist can just report what witnesses saw.
If you saw someone robbing a store, and told the reporter that the robber was shot, they could report that.
If you saw a car on fire, and told the reporter a car was on fire, they could report that. They don’t have to say “allegedly” in front of every verb.
“The alleged gunman ran into a car, allegedly, which was purported to be a red Toyota, which allegedly had his uncle inside, who allegedly had had an argument with his wife. Witnesses say the men had been drinking. Allegedly, the car took off at a high rate of speed. . .”
It’s ridiculous. The journalist can just say what he saw or what witnesses saw. Enough already. They’ll get their day in court, as they should, and will not be convicted without a trial.
a well armed citizenry equals frightened criminals...excellent.
okay...suspected assistant manager.
Exactly. Any reporter who commits libel can be hauled into the courts.
It seems to me a journalist can just report what witnesses saw.
Well, what the witnesses SAY they saw.
If you saw a car on fire, and told the reporter a car was on fire, they could report that. They dont have to say allegedly in front of every verb.
That's right. That's why they don't.
You'll note, no "allegedly" when they are telling what the cop said happened. They are quoting the cop.
There was also a shooting incident at a Sonic in VA yeterday.
I bet the perp who shot him was Mr. Some Dude.
A ER doc acquaintance at Shock Trauma in Baltimore told me that Mr. Dude is the most vicious guy on the loose in the city. And minding your own business is the most dangerous activity.
He said he could pay off his med school loans pretty quickly if he got a dollar for every patient who told him, "I was just minding my own business, and then Some Dude came up and shot me!"
There needs to be a waiting period on Sonics. Any reasonable person can wait three days for his food, and no more than one burger a month.
And burgers can have no more than three of the following... lettuce, tomato, cheese, onion, ketchup, ...
Give the store owner a pat on the back and hardy handshake for me would ya?
Lancer
Glad those with guns are using them to help others.
Me, too. But the MSM will never report this.
I know the owner and his son works for me as does New Rome Tacitus here..and a fine job I might say....impeccably trustworthy
NRT and I just had burgers, beer and fireworks...he can second this when he gets home if he goes online.
I am told that many owner operated Sonics (and even some company stores) actually encourage CCW. I’m not really surprised....Sonic ownership has been known to be fairly conservative ...started in OK...Art Linkletter was a big player in it once.

Excellent. I will remember that.
Fortunately, I guess, we don’t have Sonic near here ... closest one is about 200 miles away, but they advetise like crazy on our cable channels ... I’ll remember to pass them by when and if I get near one !!
Wow. That would be a breath of fresh air. Good on 'em!
Was the asst manager a family member too?
Is this Sonic just down from a Piggly Wiggly?
Well, they are predictable as always. Who cares about them anyway. They are silly, dopes all of them and think it is all about THEM.
