Gay Episcopal bishop sees hope for progress
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | July 5, 2008 | Matthai Kuruvila

Almost exactly five years after he was elected as the Episcopal Bishop of New Hampshire, Gene Robinson remains the most controversial Christian in the world.

His consecration as the first openly gay, partnered Anglican bishop launched a global conversation about sexuality in Christianity and divided the Anglican Communion, the largest Protestant body in the world with 77 million members.

Yet what he is doing now may be more radical: Robinson is traveling the country and the world to talk more openly and more publicly than ever about his faith.

"The principal identity that I have is as a follower of Jesus," said Robinson, who was in San Francisco this weekend. "I think I'm so 'dangerous' because I'm so normal. ... What terrifies (conservatives) is that people will get to know me and find me to be not all that extraordinary and, indeed, find out how theologically orthodox I am. And then all of their arguments fall apart."

Robinson recently published a memoir about his faith and experiences, "In the Eye of the Storm," and is on a national tour to promote his book, which he hopes will give theological perspective and understanding to how the Bible views lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

The Bible, Robinson said, is on their side.

Conservatives say the Episcopal Church and supporters of gay rights are disregarding the importance of the Bible.

Robinson's consecration meant "it was evident that there was no turning back for the leaders of the Episcopal Church, that they had chosen to put human experience above biblical authority," said Rev. David Miller, rector of St. John's Anglican Church in Petaluma, which has left the Episcopal Church and is now under the jurisdiction of a province in South America.

They’re the “Ten Commandments”,Genie baby, not the Ten Suggestions. What part of “shalt not”(as in “Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery”) don’t you understand? If you intrinsically reject any part of Christian teaching...like any one of the “Commandments” mentioned earlier you are,at best,a Unitarian/Universalist but you are in no way, shape or form a “Christian”.

I think I'm so 'dangerous' because I'm so normal.

I think this one just might be beyond redemption.

How can this heretic claim to be a follower of Jesus when he divorced his wife and is living openly with a sodomite? What God has joined let no man put asunder. I strongly suspect that he was married in the church with witnesses. I find this entire situation beyond reason. Heretics are not promoted even if they use greed, avarice, and coercion to force their way up in their church. Take away the ability of the heretics to coerce others with loss of church property, and they have zero power to corrupt, IMO.

“The principal identity that I have is as a follower of Jesus,” The only really problem with the Unitarian Universalists now running the Episcopal Church is the fact that they have redefined Jesus and God to being fuzzy little teddy bears that are all comfy and warm. They remind me of “Grizzly Man” who lived with the bears in Alaska. He thought the bears were warm little fuzzy creatures he was defending till one ate his a**. God is all loving and accepting but God is also jealous and has teeth to say the least.

Robinson and his ilk have destroyed the once GREAT Episcopal church, the national church of the USA.
I guess he is as happy as he looks.

On Monday, he flies to England to be present for the once-a-decade gathering of Anglican Communion bishops, an event called the Lambeth Conference.

He'll be both the center of attention and on the sidelines.

Because of his open stance about his sexual orientation, Robinson was not invited to Lambeth. Robinson said there are "a handful" of other gay bishops in the United States, Great Britain and other parts of the world. But they're quiet about it.

"We're much further ahead on this issue on a pastoral, personal basis than we're willing to say from the pulpit or officially," he said. "It's secrets that tear families apart."

So instead of participating in official conversations with other bishops, Robinson will be in the exhibit area, among the vendors hawking candles and vestments.

"I intend to make myself available to talk with whoever wants to talk," he said.

Being in the center of attention is what it is all about for this man. He loves the limelight and insists on going where he is unwelcome. Rather than resigning his position or refusing to be ordained a bishop for the sake of unity and peace within his church, he demanded to be paid attention to flaunting his desire for self adulation and public acknowledgment. His narcissism knows no bounds.

"It's an unstoppable movement forward by an oppressed people," he said. "Wouldn't it be nice if the church led the way for a change, instead of bringing up the rear?"

You just can't make this stuff up. Freud would have a field day with this poofter.

I am Catholic also but your attitude toward our other Christian brothers is a dangerous one. All faiths have individuals like this within in them. When Gene Robinson states that "What happens is we have this experience of being reminded that there is so much more that connects us, so much more that we have in common than that which separates us," he is trying to normalize his behavior and participates in scandal. Scandal can effect Anglicans/Episcopalians and can encourage Catholics to do the same.

We have more in common with the Anglicans/Episcopalians as Christians than he does as a homosexual bishop. To think that what happens in this denomination has no effect on other denominations is naive.

The first lie in the newspaper was that the Robinson is a Christian.

Wrong. He is just an ordinary pervert!

"Gene Robinson remains the most controversial Christian in the world"

He's not a Christian, nor are the others of his ilk.

Devils and servants of devils

Rom 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

Rom 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever.

Rom 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

Rom 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

Rom 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

Rom 1:29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

Rom 1:30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

Rom 1:31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

Rom 1:32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

2Ti 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2Ti 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

2Ti 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

2Ti 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

2Ti 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

2Ti 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

2Ti 3:9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men . . .

Severe character disorders like Imogene generally are. They are locked in denial. The problem is that with even a small number of supporters, a twisted sickie like this can hold off the world. It is up to the world to neutralize his influence, which is what the GAFCON movement is doing. The "progress" he sees hope for is the ultimate destruction of the Christian faith through desecration of the gospel. By rending of the Anglican communion he appears to have made a step toward his sordid goal.

Robinson is only one man, he couldn't have elected himself Bishop. Their religion has failed them and the proof is in the fact that the rot isn't confined to one church or one diocese but has spread throughout the Episcopalean and Anglican community. That's why so many have left it.

Progress?? Right, progressing back to ancient Rome when queers traded, bought, and sold young boys. The catamite business flourished among these deviants and, ultimaly, the homosexuals want to have dominion over kids once again. Getting married and then demanding the adoption of kids for a lifetime of sexual abuse is the goal.

You don't need to tell me.
I grew up in the Episcopal church. Up to ten years ago I was senior warden for five years at the oldest Episcopal church in West Tennessee.
I saw first hand what happened.

The problem didn't start with just one denomination, it was full bloom when the Authority and Inerrancy of Scripture was abandoned long ago. We are just now seeing more of it's ugly fruits.

Back to your Tents oh Israel.

"and, indeed, find out how theologically orthodox I am."

Umm, Mr. Robinson (he deserves no title of "Bishop" or "Reverend"), part of orthodoxy is ethics. In the same way Ted Haggard was not orthodox--though outwardly evangelical--due to his immoral behavior, you sir are not orthodox, because you reject the ancient created order of Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.

You are an immoral sexually perverted follower not of Jesus, but of Sodom and its king...teaching others to be the same.

8 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving,[d] unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:8-32)
