McCain to get air cover from vets
Politico ^ | 7/5/08 | MIKE ALLEN

For the first time, the presidential campaign of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is about to get a substantial hand from advertisements by an outside group.

Conservative and Republican groups have been largely quiet, leaving McCain heavily outmatched by Sen. Barack Obama's campaign fundraising juggernaut.

Next week, Vets for Freedom — a 20,000-member, nonpartisan organization established by combat veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan — plans to begin spending more than $1 million on a TV campaign that will include Ohio, Virginia and New Mexico.

The group plans to spend millions more and to add other states to the roster over the next four months.

The ad, the largest independent expenditure on a national-security theme in the general election so far, features a number of vets speaking about the success of the surge and the need to finish the job.

The buy is part of what the group is calling the "Four Months, For Victory" media and grass-roots campaign that focuses on a dozen key swing states: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Here are excerpts of the advisory Vets for Freedom will be sending the media:

"WHO/WHAT: On July 9, Vets for Freedom will hold a press conference featuring over a dozen Iraq war veterans to launch a national "Four Months, For Victory" media and grass-roots campaign. The effort will culminate on Veterans Day (November 11) and is intended to inform the American public and key lawmakers about the phenomenal success that our troops have achieved as a result of the surge and the importance of ensuring victory in Iraq, Afghanistan and the overall Global war on Terrorism.

"The launch includes a multimillion-dollar television-advertising buy in target markets and on national cable that will air this week and run throughout July and August. The first television ad will be released at the press conference featuring the Iraq and Afghanistan veterans appearing in the ad. These pointed ads are aimed at informing the American people about the truth regarding progress in Iraq.

"Simultaneously, Vets for Freedom will mobilize our grass-roots veteran membership throughout the country to spread the "ground truth" about progress in Iraq. The "Four Months, For Victory" campaign is a national grass-roots effort taking place in all 50 states, but will aggressively focus on 12 key states that are home to key lawmakers: MN, IA, WI, MI, PA, NV, NM, MO, CO, OH, FL and VA.

"The Vets for Freedom State Captains from these states will have grass-roots staff and resources available to mobilize local veteran volunteers. Vets in these states will call for victory in Iraq and Afghanistan by hitting the airwaves and pounding the pavement during the four months between now and Veterans Day, spreading the truth about the facts on the ground by drawing up their first-hand combat experiences. …

"Veterans featured in the ads as well as the State Captains from the 12 target states will be in attendance and available for interviews at the conclusion of the event. …

"Vets for Freedom is a nonpartisan organization established by combat veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Its mission is to educate the American public about the importance of achieving success in these conflicts by applying first-hand knowledge to issues of American strategy and tactics in Iraq. It supports policymakers from both sides of the aisle in their attempts to stand behind our great generation of American warriors on the battlefield, and put long-term national security before short-term partisan political gain. Vets for Freedom is the largest Iraq and Afghanistan veterans organization in America."

Conservative and Republican groups have been largely quiet, leaving McCain heavily outmatched by Sen. Barack Obama's campaign fundraising juggernaut.

Whose fault is that? Juan McCain and the RNC. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, and you can't work up much enthusiasm about a loser like McCain.

I would imagine that this veteran's organization is acting less out of fondness for McCain than fear of what Obama would do to our country and our military. If only we could kick McCain to the sidelines and get a decent, conservative candidate in his place, then we could start kicking Democrat butt with more conviction.

McCain on lower right

In August of 1968, a program of vigorous torture methods began on McCain, using rope bindings into painful positions and beatings every two hours, at the same time as he was suffering from dysentery.[84][79] Teeth and bones were broken again, as was McCain's spirit; the beginning of a suicide attempt was stopped by guards.[79] After four days of this, McCain signed and taped[94] an anti-American propaganda "confession" that said, in part, "I am a black criminal and I have performed the deeds of an air pirate. I almost died, and the Vietnamese people saved my life, thanks to the doctors."[79] He used stilted Communist jargon and ungrammatical language to signal that the statement was forced.[89]. Source

November 22, 1970 -- During a fund-raising tour for GI deserters, Vietnam Veterans Against the War and the Black Panthers, Jane Fonda is quoted in the Detroit Free Press as telling a University of Michigan audience:

"I would think that if you understood what communism was, you would hope, you would pray on your knees that we would someday become communist," and "The peace proposal of the Viet Cong is the only honorable, just, possible way to achieve peace in Vietnam."
http://www.wintersoldier.com/index.php?topic=Timeline

Fonda made the following statement at the University of Texas:
"We've got to establish a Socialist economic structure that will limit private profit-oriented businesses. Whether the transition is peaceful depends on the way our present governmental leaders react. We must commit our lives to this transition ...... We should be very proud of our new breed of soldier. It's not organized but it's mutiny, and they have every right." --Karen Elliott Dallas Morning News December 11, 1971

From 1972: "I am not a do-gooder, I am a revolutionary. A revolutionary woman."

From Barack Obama's official website:

“I wanted to make an art piece of Barack Obama because I thought an iconic portrait of him could symbolize and amplify the importance of his mission. I believe Obama will guide this country to a future where everyone can thrive and I should support him vigorously for the sake of my two young daughters. I have made art opposing the Iraq war for several years, and making art of Obama, who opposed the war from the start, is like making art for peace. I know I have an audience of young art fans and I’m delighted if I can encourage them to see the merits of Barack Obama.”

It’s about time McCain got some outside support. People are beginning to realize how radical and dangerous NoBama is.

He will retreat from not only Iraq, but the entire War on Terror. He will appoint 3-4 Ruth Bader Ginsberg’s on the Supreme Court. We cannot allow that to happen.

And look at the disgusting way these communist b*st*rds try to reach out to our kids! Michael Moore is another of many SOBs that do this same sort of thing.

Michael Moore endorsed Wesley Clark...and now Obama

From Michael Moore's website, September 12th, 2003:

Michael Moore to Wesley Clark: Run!
A Citizen's Appeal to a General in a Time of War (at Home)

Dear General Wesley Clark,

I've been meaning to write to you for some time. Two days after the Oscars, when I felt very alone and somewhat frightened by the level of hatred toward me for daring to suggest that we were being led into war for "fictitious reasons," one person stuck his neck out and came to my defense on national television.

And that person was you.

__________________________________________________________________

From Moore's website, January 14th, 2004:

I'll Be Voting For Wesley Clark / Good-Bye Mr. Bush

Many of you have written to me in the past months asking, 'Who are you going to vote for this year?'

I have decided to cast my vote in the primary for Wesley Clark. That's right, a peacenik is voting for a general. What a country!

http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/message/index.php?messageDate=2004-01-14

__________________________________________________________________

Michael, the "peacenik", Moore, also from his website...

"The Iraqis who have risen up against the occupation are not 'insurgents' or 'terrorists' or 'The Enemy.' They are the REVOLUTION, the Minutemen, and their numbers will grow -- and they will win. Get it, Mr. Bush?"
[actual quote from Michael Moore (2004). It still appears on his website]
http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/message/index.php?messageDate=2004-04-14

__________________________________________________________________

This one has also been up for years, although I doubt if it's actually Michael Moore saying it...

The Communist Party USA (CPUSA):
"We are a party of unity in action. We are an integral part of every struggle and movement for change to eliminate poverty and joblessness, against racism and for full equality. We are participants, initiators and leaders of every movement to make life better now and much better in a socialist future." Yeah, so they supported an oppressive dictator, like the Repubs and Democrats haven't? The CP is still around, has apologized for that whole Stalin thing, and has a quickly growing youth section.

My Vote's for Obama (if I could vote) ...by Michael Moore

Friends,

I don't get to vote for President this primary season. I live in Michigan. The party leaders (both here and in D.C.) couldn't get their act together, and thus our votes will not be counted.

So, if you live in Pennsylvania, can you do me a favor? Will you please cast my vote -- and yours -- on Tuesday for Senator Barack Obama?

I would love for the ad to feature some of the vets saying “Osama...ehrr...I mean Obama is not suitable to be America’s Commander in Chief” LOL

Well, some would take that as a slam, even though it would be cute. How about the vets keep the focus on the soldiers and their feelings towards what is happening - esp. highlighting the soldiers for McCain. Keep Obama’s name out of anything to do with our veterans. They deserve so much better than an Obama presidencey! Just my two cents.

Yes, yes, yes. Remember too, McCain and Kerry went against Sen. Bob Smith (R-NH) and R.Perot to rule our VN POWs/MIAs dead. This went against all evidence including aerial photos of the rescue code spelled out in rocks. McCain was also very rude to the POW/MIA wives. With our men ruled dead, the illegal government of Communist VN was given recognition and trade opened up. Allegedly cohorts of McCain and Kerry profited. I have a printed copy of the hearings and also watched it on CSPAN.

"McCain to get air cover from vets"

Funny, I don't see John McCain's name mentioned in the quotes from VetsForFreedom -- all I see are calls for VICTORY.

So the journalist writing this is implicitly acknowledging that an ad campaign for "victory" in the war favors John McCain, because Obambi is the candidate of retreat, defeat, and surrender to the jihadists.
