"Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain might not burn up the campaign trail around Western New York this election year, but the University at Buffalo may have scheduled the next best thing.
GOP strategist Karl Rove and former Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards will debate the issues of the presidential campaign Sept. 26 as part of the universitys Distinguished Speakers Series, The Buffalo News has learned.
As surrogates for the parties standard bearers, the two also could square off more than once at other locations around the nation.
Were working on something like that for our Distinguished Speakers Series, said Bill Regan, UBs director of special events. Were not really sure of the format yet. But we do think they are scheduled to do it at least once together before they come to UB.
Though McCain, a Republican, is scheduled to visit Buffalo briefly for a major fundraiser July 21 in the Albright- Knox Art Gallery, most analysts already are ceding New York to the Democrats. Still, Joshua Dyck, assistant professor of political science at UB, calls such an event genuine political theater that could have an effect."

Stinks of a cash grab.
I’ll go for the Youtube highlights.
Rove should mop the floor with Stu Ped, as he was called on the Hannity radio show.
Obama’s handlers are afraid to turn him loose without a script and a teleprompter. He sounds like a moron when he’s on his own.
Lol, I hope I get to watch this one live!
So true. Speaking of....when the heck are the debates supposed to start between mclame and fake messiah?? I haven’t heard a peep about them!
Me too. They’re both witty. There’s not a lot of positive things to be said about the pony, but he is witty. And I love the accent. I remember when he was asked in 2004 if he would get on a ticket with johnkerry. He said “Oh, does he want to be vice president”?
Ain’t that the truth. I fear that Jindal might also not be too witty.
Jindal? What does he have to do with this debate? Thought I missed something so I went back and re-read the article and I don’t see any mention of Jindal.
Does this make it official that Barack Obama WON’T choose John Edwards as his VP?
Well, I would say it DOES make it official before it becomes unofficial, then back to official again. Whew! Hard to keep up with that jacka**!!! (pun really not intended and over the head prior to my “preview!!!)
Jindal has nothing to do with this debate. Neither does being witty. I was remarking on wit, somebody posted to me that the messiah is sans wit. I concurred and remarked that somebody on our side also appears to be not witty. I could be wrong. He might be very witty. I hope so, but from what I’ve seen so far, it doesn’t strike me so.
Rove is a legend in his own mind. He almost lost the 2004 election. The SBVFT saved the day. And under Rove, the GOP lost control of Congress.
The last few times I have seen Rove on FNC he came off really well but you are not the first to bring up his failings in 2004 and 06.
I wonder if he is like Newt and has that 80/20 thing going where 80% of the time he's a genius and the rest of the time you have to hide under the bed he is so stupid.
Rove favors scamnesty, yes, as Newt favors global warming. Most of them suck, this we can agree. WE ARE SCREWED!!!
I’m talking about the beating Rove will put on Edwards. If I remember correctly, Rove is also backing mclame.
Lol, funny how we both went right to Newt!
I owe you an apology. I responded to your comment while having comment #4 on the mind.
I’m sorry. It’s my fault things got “crossed”.
Like minds,pretty cool.
Oh man!! This needs national TV coverage. Somebody get the word to FOX News Network; quick because Rove will tear him up!!!!!
I think you may have intended this for somebody else.
The VEEP candidates?
Anything's possible I suppose.
