A catered fundraiser for Sen. Barack Obama was held recently at Duke's City, an upscale restaurant and bar nestled amid the hip new condominiums in the District's U Street corridor, where up-and-coming white professionals are slowly taking over an area that was once mostly black.
But the owner of Duke's City, Donato Sinaci, is not one of Obama's many young, white supporters. And the host of the event, Michael Endale, is not a native-born black American. They are members of Ethiopians for Obama, one of several campaign groups made up of African immigrants who are rallying around the first black American to win a major party's presidential primary, and the son of a Kenyan immigrant.
From coast to coast, Somali, Ethiopian, Nigerian and Kenyan Americans are knocking on the doors of their fellow African immigrants, registering new citizens to vote, raising money and preaching Obama's mantra of hope and change.
They hope that his prominence will change their status as one of the nation's least-recognized immigrant groups, and that he will one day provide aid to help ease the turmoil and poverty in countries such as Ethiopia, Somalia and Sudan.

But it is right in Washington, DC, on U Street NW.
These people have as good a chance of experiencing any "hope" as any of us do. None from Obama.
They need to put on their helmets and leathers for when they get thrown under the bus.
The black racists voting on skin-color will be disappointed. Repubs will get the blame though.
Talked with a guy from Burkina Faso who was all for Obama at my friend’s 4th party yesterday. Then again, so was the Polish woman on my right, and everybody else at the party (this was Manhattan after all).
Too much of our money has already been poured into the true “black hole” of Africa - and with no noticeable improvement.
I’ve encountered this phenomenon among my friends who are African immigrants, however, if you show them exactly what Mr. Obama will do to their paychecks, their enthusiasm for him quickly vanishes.
Don't know why. There will be no reparations for them from the Obama government, since their ancestors weren't slaves.
Here and I thought the Polish were supposed to be the smartest people in Europe.
And all that money Bush gave to buying Africa out of AIDs sure went noticed...
What’s funny is that the African immigrants are generally hard workers. If anyone in the black community is going to get taxed by Obama and his policies, it’s them.
LOL
this is disappointing...
same old same old
skin.
Sure it's worth 9 billion of our tax dollars which Bush tripled over The Bent One's to be able to have Christ Bono and Bob (bad choice in women) Geldolf suck up to a president they actually hate for 15 minutes.
I think Saint Mandela even said Bush was ok for a bigoted cracker from Texas.
Winnie knew better though..back to the soccer club "coaching" for her.
I have a friend from Eritrea but haven’t spoke with her in a few months. I wonder what she thinks. I’m afraid to ask. I’ve already got two American born friends that appear to be Obama supporters. I just don’t want to get into these conversations with friends though because I’m know I’m going to be disappointed in the thinking or lack thereof.
How cute. Africans are homesick for gun confiscation, thug dictators, Marxism and black racism.
It won't matter. Anyone with black skin in the U.S. will qualify. (time to get that tanning booth).
I’ve heard that American blacks often don’t like African blacks, whom they see as descendants of the folks who sold them into slavery. However, African blacks will qualify for Obama reparations because “white colonialism caused all the problems of Africa.” That’s what Comrade Mugabe says to Comrade Hussein, anyway.
Sure. What’s another few hundred billion $$ + throwing our doors open to unlimited immigration from Africa. Get some emmpty oil tankers, fill them with people at $2000 bucks a head, you could make a fortune.
This reminds me of why they left in the first place. What I can’t understand is why they would want to recreate their own little “heaven on earth” here in the United States?
