The Loss of Independence
Human Events ^ | 07/06/2008 | EagleUSA

Not until a year after Lexington did the Continental Congress muster the resolve to declare the 13 colonies free and independent states, no longer subject to Parliament or Crown.

Not for five years after July 4, 1776, did George Washington's army truly attain America's independence at Yorktown.

Even then, Washington and his aide Alexander Hamilton knew that the 13 states, while politically independent, were dependent upon Europe for the necessities of their national life. Without French ships and guns, French muskets and troops, the Americans could not have forced Gen. Cornwallis' surrender at Yorktown.

Cornwallis would have sailed away, as Gen. Howe had from Boston.

Indeed, absent the 1778 alliance with France, our Revolution would have been a longer bloodier affair and might not have succeeded.

While I do not always agree with Pat, this is a good article he has composed, reviewing the wisdom, wins and losses of our founding fathers and their real intentions for America. It leads us to a time now, where horribly anti-American forces in our own government are trying to turn our nation into a groveling, wimpy socialist dung-heap, wimpering at the knees of the rest of the world seeking APPROVAL and FORGIVENESS for the success and greatness of America. A refreshing, reminding read.

Have been watching HBO’s “John Adams”. It’s been a great way to spend the evening hours around Independence Day.

We need to dissolve NATO which is nothing more than a bunch of weak Euro nations who cannot even defend themselves.

They spend all their money on social programs while we spend our money on a military to defend them.

Cornwallis would have sailed away, as Gen. Howe had from Boston...

Yes, to be beaten or stymied at another location.

The entire British strategy of dividing the colonies up into three slices had failed completely by that time, and absent endless and fruitless maneuvering around the seaboard, along with new logistical and manpower support, not to mention the continued support of the powers that be in England, their struggle to contain the independence movement was on the road to nowhere.

“..where horribly anti-American forces in our own government are trying to turn our nation into a groveling, wimpy socialist dung-heap..”

Are you telling us that there were already members of the ass party at that time?
