A man shot and critically wounded by police early Sunday on the city's Southwest Side has died, according to the Independent Police Review Authority.

A spokesman said the victim was an adult male and that a gun was recovered at the crime scene.

At about 2:13 a.m., police responded to a call of shots fired in the 6100 block of South Kedzie Avenue, the Chicago Police News Affairs office said in a release. Police and the armed person exchanged gunfire. The suspect was struck and transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, according to police.

Clearly this gunman simply hadn't HEARD that there was a gun ban in Chicago, otherwise he would have disposed of his firearm at once, because gun bans are immdiately complied with by criminals and they disarm themselves at once.

Chicago Mayor Dick Daley, two weeks after he vowed to fight the US Supreme Court from overturning Chicago's gun ban (according to Daley, Chicago's "home rule" trumps the US Supreme court)we have yet another example of how gun bans prevent nothing except honest law abiding citizens from protecting themselves.

It should be noted that Daley and his family continue to sleep and wake cowering under the protection of a Chicago Police Department 24 hour a day armed security detail.

Daley continues to ignore calls for him to dismiss his armed 24 hour a day bodyguards and have them reassigned to protecting the citizens of Chicago, not just him and his family. Daley avails only himself of armed protection, the citizens who inexplicably re-elect him and pay the highest sales tax rate of any major American city (10.25%)are not, accpording to Mr. Daley, entitled to the same armed protection against violence that he gets for free.

A rare victory for the good guys. Lately, there has been an epidemic of unsolved/unpunished gun murders in Chicago's minority neighborhoods. At least one gunman and murderer/or potential murderer is now permanently off the streets. Although their flocks are now just a little bit safer, watch for the barrage of second guess, conspiracy theory, anti-cop criticism from the usual race-hustling reverends. This is, after all, the city of Jesse Jackson, Jeremiah Wright and Michael Pfleger.

That wasn’t the gun ban that Obama knew.

Why did the police need to shoot him? Don’t they know guns only escalate the violence?

"Daley continues to ignore calls for him to dismiss his armed 24 hour a day bodyguards and have them reassigned to protecting the citizens of Chicago, not just him and his family."

Mr. Daley, I'll give up my guns when you give up your bodyguards.
