You are absolutely correct.
And you can also bet the rent that if the Japanese had been feverishly working to develop their own nuclear weapons capability in late 1944 / early 1945 that FDR (and later, Truman) would not have tried to let ‘negotiations’ run their course, or engage in other diplomatic niceties.
We would continue to bomb the living Hell out of every Japanese target we could find, and kill as many of the sumb!tches as possible.
Which is exactly what we should have been doing to Iran a LONG time ago.

I’m not sure, but I finished reading On the Wings of Eagles yesterday, it’s the story about how Ross Perot went way beyond the call to help get some of his company’s people out of Iran. Good book, and it made me really respect Ross Perot.

As naive as Obama is, I doubt if he can surpass the great things Jimmy did for us. Dont you just long for the good ole days of double-digit inflation, a 21% prime interest rate, massive new entitlement programs, a peanut farmer whose crops had greater intelligence than he did, etc. Don't underestimate the Obamessiah. His proposed tax increases could dwarf what Carter did.

Jimmah has a lot to answer for, but he isn’t the one paying the price. He is still a preachy PIA. You would think he would shut up after all his disasters.

“Carter has caused thousands of deaths: Marine Barracks, Lebanon, rise of Hizbollah, Iranian Terrorism, complicity with Palestinian Terrorism, etc... The gift that keeps on giving.”
Yes, yes and yes again. When Carter pulled the Marines out of Lebanon after their barracks were bombed, it emboldened the terrorists and led them to believe America is a paper tiger. Then he gave in to the Iranian terrorists and let them drive out the Shah, and now he continues to have relations and negotiate with terrorists. That Carter’s misfeance, malfeance and treason are tolerated is a blot on America.

It sounds as if it is the same book that I read. What struck me was that the person that understood the situation best, and who was the real hero that got the job done, was an Iranian interpreter that they hired who wanted to come to the U.S.

“When Carter pulled the Marines out of Lebanon after their barracks were bombed”
I think President Carter was a disaster, but let us inject a little fact. Wasn’t it President Reagan who pulled the Marines out of Lebanon after the barracks were bombed?
To: Always Right
Yep...I've seen the proposed increase in personal income taxes (max of 55%), increase in capital gains taxes (almost double), no cap on SS taxes, increased death taxes, etc. What I don't understand is why the GOP sits there with their collective thumb up their a$$ and does nothing with this ammunition. And please don't give me this “Wait until September” crap. I really think most people are stupid and, once they fall in line with one position, they aren't going to let the facts change their minds. The GOP needs to grow a pair, take off the kidd gloves, and come out swinging. Instead, they always seem to ask the opposition to come to a tea party to talk things over “so we can all be friends”. Well, not a dime of my money goes to the GOP until I see them start beating the crap out of BO.

I do not think the problem with Carter was incompetence or naivete. He knew what he was doing.

I think it Must have been Carter. I don’t believe President Reagan was so cowardly as to retreat in the face of the enemy. I’ll check on it.

Having visited both Iran and most nations in Europe I’d say Iranians are far more pro-American than any European nation I’ve seen.
To: marktwain
Ok, I checked and you’re right, it was Reagan and not Carter who withdrew the Marines from Lebanon after their barrcks were bombed in 1983. But I’m sure President Reagan didn’t withdraw out of cowardice like Carter would have done, he probalby had a good reason, and it was probably all Carter’s fault anyway.

I recall the situation and read a book by a marine who was intimately involved. We went there to try to help the Lebanese stabilize the situation. It was somewhat like Somalia. We went there to help, and Islamic terrorists attacked us because they see everything through the conspiracy theory that we only exist because we want to destroy Islam.
After we were attacked we thought,if you guys want to kill each other and us, just because we came to help, well, forget it. We don't have a dog in this fight.
After numerous other attacks on us because of what we are, not what we do, especially 911, we woke up for a while, and realized that though we did not start this fight, we need to finish it.
The Democrats have, since Dean took over the party, agreed with the Islamists that we are the source of evil in the world, and deserve all the punishment we get.

You know earlier today I commented that one of your posts sounded a little 'out there' (to put it mildly) but the fact is, much of what you say makes a great deal of sense, however I submit that it doesn't matter if America elects Obama-lama-ding-dong, Hiliarly the PIAPS, John McCain or Reverend Franklin Graham as President, this Nation is going to be judged for the millions upon millions of unborn children that have been murdered since Roe v Wade.
It ain't gonna be pretty. And we'll deserve every bit of it.

A hyperbolic situation can ONLY be described in hyperbole.. any other definition is misinformation or worse propaganda..
