Man held in Fourth of July attack By Ira Kantor Sunday, July 6, 2008
A 20-year-old man was arrested Friday night for allegedly attacking a New York Yankees fan with a baseball bat after a Fourth of July fireworks display in Falmouth.
According to police, officers responded to 153 Worcester Court after receiving a report about a fight in progress. On arrival, officers noticed several youths, including Robert Donald Correia of Falmouth, bothering a family in its car because the vehicle had New York license plates.
Police said Correia and others accused the family of being Yankees fans. The family was unable to move the vehicle because of heavy traffic while leaving the event.
The unidentified father in the car asked the youths to stop because children were present. Police said that was when Correia and others allegedly attacked him with a baseball bat, resulting in a head injury.
The victims car was also vandalized, according to police. Correia was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and malicious destruction to a motor vehicle. He will be arraigned Monday in Falmouth District Court.
Good thing the perp was raised in “tolerant” Massachussets. It could have been much worse.
RedSox Nation and Obamanation—perfect together.
This is a New England disease. Something in the air up their that turns people into hate filled liberals it appears.
Seriously...what the hell is in the water up there???
The judge should make these pukes clean the Visitor’s locker room at Fenway for the next Yankees series. And then get Jason Giambi to bash each one of them on the head with his bat, just for good measure.
this creep will be arraigned?
he should be euthanized.
That said, what the driver needed to do was then say "Perhaps you didn't hear what I said [sound of a model 1911 .45 slide being racked], there are children in the car, now leave."
Beats me. But there's something. I was born and raised there; finally escaped for good 17 years ago.
In Massachusetts, that form of self defense will get you one year MANDATORY in a state pen. Wouldn't matter if you were protecting the Pope.
Anyone serious about carrying a 1911 already has it in conditon one.
Life isn’t a movie.
Maybe not after heller. I think a strong case could be made using those circumstances.
Like there have not been any instances of Sox fans being jacked by Yankee fans? Do a You Tube search and you will find a clip of a 12 year old boy being intimidated and called all sorts of names by classy adult Yankee fans.
with respect to your suggestion about Giambi, looks like the greasebag is back on the illegal PEDs based on his season. He might actually be able to do some real damage.
Heller addresses ownership. Concealed carry is a whole ‘nother thing. Even Scalia said that local governments could regulate to “some degree.”
I'd say the same thing if the sites were reversed and would offer Manny Ramirez to do the batting. Hell, Mannie would PAY to hit a NY fan in the noggin'.
No.
Really? Manny won’t even pay for a couple extra tickets to get some friends into a game. He’d rather attack a Red Sox employee than pay.
Regulate to “some degree” yes, but here is a situation that clearly called for self defense. All I’m saying is that Mass. law could be challenged since Heller found that the restrictions imposed by DC were too severe. Other states do not consider having a firearm in the vehicle “concealed carry.” It will take test cases to move the ball and this situation had potential to be such a case. It is a shame that the Mass legislature accomplished what the British failed to do in 1775.
Dream on. The LE system and justice system in boston reserve that kind of treatment for law abiding, responsible citizens that want to defend themselves. The thugs are free to roam.
A couple of years ago I went to an Atlanta Braves v. Houston Astros game in Atlanta. I'm an Astros fan. If the Braves lose, Houston goes to the playoffs and the Braves stay home. The Astros won, and all we heard was "congratulations, now go beat St. Louis". Classy group of fans.
It depends. I've encountered some great fans at both Yankee and Shea stadiums, even while cheering the visiting teams. The worst of the worst (in my experience) are Philadelphia fans of any sport, and Montreal Canadiens fans.
I’m a born and raised New Yorker who has lived in Massachusetts for 30 years and am amazed at the hatred for the Yankees. Frankly, I think it’s a feeling of inferiority to new York in general.
That being said, I can’t stand the Red Sox. Some of them look like they crawled out of a dumpster.
I was born and raised in Boston, moved to Ohio 17 years ago. When friends here ask about traveling to Boston or NYC, I tell them the truth; the average New Yorker is friendlier and more helpful than the average person from Mass.
The family reached for their 38 revolver and fired at the bat wielding punk,oh wait their from NY,Never mind
As a child I was a Yankee fan, then I switched to Cleveland in the 50’s after the Yankees won so much. My dad was a big Red Sox fan back when Mel Parnell was with them. Williams,Doerr,Pesky and Dominic Dimaggio if memory serves me correctly. I was going to vacation in New England last year, they are the only states on the continent I havent visited along with Alaska. I chave lost all my respect for the New England States regardless of how beautiful they may be. They are to Liberal for me.
This is more of a hate crime than most of the supposed hate crimes that make the news.
I’m guessing alcohol was involved.
I wonder if the bat was made in the U.S.A. or China?
I wonder if it was maple or ash (aluminum is so bush league.)
Imagine the frustration if this clown were a Seattle Mariners Fan...
You are so right. New Yorkers are very friendly and gregarious. We lived in a suburb of Cleveland(Westlake) for a little over a year and I was constantly amazed at how wonderful the people were. When we were transferred to Boston I wished I could have brought my neighbors from Ohio with me.
When I lived in central New York, riots broke out on three separate occasions when I was present.
Luckily I’ve never been at one here in MA.
People are crazy. It’s just a game, FFS.
“I’ve never understood the hatred that results from being a fan of a particular team. This seems to be a Northern thing, though I hear wearing a visiting team’s jersey to a St. Louis Cardinals game can draw some heat.”
Not really. The hatred between some big southern college rivalries is gigantic. And nothing in this country compares to European sports rivalries. It is much less safe to be wearing the wrong colors in Europe than it is here. I remember reading an article from the BBC about a deadly riot in Greece between two rival fan bases. The sport that sparked it? Womens volleyball.
No question that Philly has the worst fans in the US.
