Contest Winner Lives Green: 9-Year-Old Wants Everyone on the Bus
San Jose Mercury News ^ | 7/6/08 | Will Oremus

Posted on 07/06/2008 11:19:33 AM PDT by ProtectOurFreedom

Some kids entered SamTrans' "Art Take a Bus Ride" competition because they like to draw. Nine-year-old Kevin Huo of Foster City did it because he wants to help save the world.

"I had to get my message out to everyone so they'd understand that this Earth is getting sick," Huo says. "I want everyone to understand that they should ride the bus and lower their carbon footprints."

Huo, a third-grader at Audubon Elementary, won the contest's grand prize with a drawing he describes as a vision of a healthier future. SamTrans spent $5,000 to plaster one of its full-size buses with a blown-up version of the picture, in which windmills and solar panels form the backdrop for a line of smiling bus passengers.

A budding environmentalist who lists "looking at trees" as a favorite hobby, the precocious third-grader was an apt winner for a contest whose theme was "Go SamTrans, Go Green." He studies birds, enjoys learning about sustainability and volunteers with his family to clear trails at local parks.

Let’s get the kids young, huh?

My husband works for the public transportation system in our city. We don’t like public transportation, we don’t take public transportation, and we don’t want public transportation. To heck with public transportation.

For 20+ years, my husband kept the lightrail running for the people in our region, and for 20+ some years we never had one day off together. I finally find a job where we have at least one day off together, and my husband's boss puts everyone on rotating shifts. My husband and I will not a one day off together until January 2010. To heck with public transportation (and this isn't by far the only reason -- there are numerous).

This proves that the average mental age of the typical liberal is 9 years old. This youngster has a chance to do what most liberals cannot achieve - outgrow this erronious mindset.

I wonder if the idealistic little geek has ever ridden a bus on a 110 degree day with 90% humidity.

I doubt it, if he had he wouldn’t be so idealistic about busses any more.

Funny how the idealism of youth surrenders to the wisdom of age.

Hey Kid, It will not be the Carbon Footprint that gets people on the Bus but rather the price of Gas.

At $4.00 a gallon more people have begun taking the bus.

At $5.00 a gallon even more people will stop driving their car and take they bus.

At $10.00 a gallon almost everyone will be taking the bus.

As for me, I have been riding my bike to work since gas was $1.25 a gallon!

Hey Kevin, let's all tell each other what to do. For example, why don't you lower your 'carbon footprint' by only using transportation for necessary things like work, the store, the doctor, etc.

I'm sure that the bus doesn't go to all of your park and 'green' outings so OOPS there goes your fun. No video games either.

That’s why government wants to get every ki into pre school.

Speaking of buses, the same educators that traumatize these little grade schoolers with green doom and gloom are the ones that promote grade-siting, preventing the kids from walking to school, resulting in a HUGE amount of fuel consumption. Result: In Gore theory, that leaves a Big Ol' "Carbon Footprint," kiddo.

Liberal hypocrisy, as usual.

Shut up ya little twerp, you don’t know jacksh*t, all you know is what your local tree-hugging communistic environmental-wackos have been pouring into your now-polluted and deluded mind.

The birds are going to die, the trees are going to eventually become a hazard to life and limb, and it will be all your fault. Why? Because we humans are the biggest threat to the environment, isn’t that what they’re telling you, and me, and everyone else 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?

Kid, you don’t know a fraction of what you DON’T know.

Kevin you are a cute kid. Bur Marxism is a very bad thing. Marxists have killed millions of people over the decades; many more than the Nazis killed.
When you grow up and get a job; you will turn much more conservative when you see how much of your paycheck goes to support broken government programs.

It won’t be late to turn away from your childlike leftist ideology.
