Sounds like the Europeans are getting nervous. Their lib allies in the CIA did them a disservice by declaring the nuke program dormant. Now they are trying to undo the damage.

Why, why...this is in direct contradiction to the recently famous NIE finding that the Iranians stopped weapon activity in 2003.

Who to believe....British MI5 or our vaunted, newly integrated, humongous, 18 agency intelligence community that all have a vote in the NIE conclusions....

Clinton put the politicians into intelligence, and Bush failed to get them out...

Nah, can't be.

We need to proceed with prudence and give it more time via investigation before pointing fingers of distrust.

After all, it's all for "peaceful purposes" so Imanutjob says. /s

Now when they say ‘Iran has resumed its A-bomb project’, what do they mean?

Choices include:

a. The person or agency making the assessment was too stupid to observe that uranium enrichment per se is part of a project to build a Hiroshima-style ‘gun bomb’, so they didn’t notice that Iran had never stopped its A-bomb project.

b. Iran has actually resumed some activity directed toward building a plutonium bomb (much more dangerous because on the yield could be much larger, it is the basis for trigger for thermonuclear bombs with much, much larger yields, and it can be miniaturized for use by terrorists.).

c. Both of the above.

In view of former Sec. Def.’s warning about ‘unknown unknowns’ there are probably some other choices that don’t occur to me at the moment.

I find it impossible to believe they have resumed working when it seems clear they never halted their efforts in the first place. Oh, I guess they need to say it this way so the "intelligence" community can still say "Bush lied".

They have started up again?

Did they ever stop?

National intelligence estimate reports to the contrary, they never even slowed down, they were just more secretive when ElBaradei came around. And Elbaradei was being willfully ignorant of obvious facts, averting his eyes at critical moments, so he could report back, “Nothing to see here.”

It was all being done right out in plain sight, if only anyone had troubled to look. The Islamic Republic of Iran is very nearly an illegitimate regime. They certainly do not feel constrained to be very forthcoming about their intentions, though most of those intentions can be inferred by watching their pattern of action over the past ten years or so.

They are as serious as a heart attack about “getting” Israel, forcing the Israelis to flee into the sea, just as soon as they have the capability to strike.

That is assuming they ever achieve that capability. They sit seemingly motionless, coiled like a cobra, preparing to strike....

While just across the border to the east and west, stand elements of the most technologically advanced military organization the planet has ever seen.

There is a LOT riding on the next US election.

I believe that the rest of the world should step up to the plate concerning Iran. Either do something about it or forget it. Draging this crap out like this is crazy.

Awfully bold, aren’t they? Well, I guess if I had China, NK, and Russia, and all the other despotic regimes of the world “behind me” it wouldn’t be so “scary” to tempt fate like this... It seems it’s only a matter of time before things really “heat up” over there again...

May God bless any and all innocent and good, freedom-loving Iranians who are at odds with their leaders, and may He protect them from harm...

Gee, it's such a shame that the Iranians, stupid woggies that they are, don't have a handling accident. A nice little low kiloton order ground burst near their main “research” facility.

Of course, area around it would be contaminated for decades. In addition, there would be no doubt that they had been trying to build a fissionable weapon.

Unfortunately there would be some loss of life, such as some of their top Revolutionary Guard types, as most of their scientists, both indig and imported, etc. would all go up in the blast.

Of course, all the machinery would be gone.

Even better, it would serve to create an international consensus that we must never let rogue nations or trans-national Islamofacist groups build such a weapon, etc.

All it would take would be a little of that Soviet plutonium we bought from the Ukrainians.... just a little explosion.....

Wow, that is surely an interesting point, but I think it is gong to be much worse.

I am not sure the alliances like 1914 would be an issue, more like an abandonement of alliances to try to stay out of it!

Wow, makes ya think, 1914 had alliances make countries go to war, the nuke threat mixed with the Islamic threat will make countries break their alliances to keep OUT of war!

NK isn’t going/doing anything in Iran’s defense. Il Kim talks a good game to uneducated slaves but in the real world we’re playing 21 and he went bust in Syria. (Don’t forget who blew up a reactor cooling tower the other day.) China can’t do squat. They are big and scary I guess but once again back in the real world our nukes outnumber theirs by a $h!7 load. Hell they couldn’t aim a missile until slick Willie gave them the technology. That leaves Russia. True to form they will sell stuff to Iran and others, then sell us the intelligence on it. They will be OK with the war behind closed doors because they will rebuild Iran. China will probably get a little peice of the rebuilding. I expect this to move in the direction MindBender26 implies, it will blow up in their faces but I could see someone helping it.

Don't worry, Obama will send hugs not bombs and the bad men will go away!

I'm wondering how many Europeans are wishing that that "cowboy" in the White House would do something, so they can condemn him loudly while secretly cheering.

The context I referred 1914 to, was the context of parties preparing and moving towards war. Once this movement has started, it cannot be stopped.

The Iran nuclear project is the reason Bush met with all the potential presidential candidates to show them the iron clad evidence and wrn them not to promise quick withdraw from Iraq because we will definately need troops there for a while.

These cities owe their modernness and beauty to the Manhattan Project!

It’s like the difference between Rome and Berlin.

Rome was not bombed, so is creaky old buildings.

Berlin was leveled, so is all modern.

Ah, the benefits of American technology.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Tuesday downplayed the threat of an attack on his country by the United States, saying it would be “political suicide” for US President George W. Bush. He also said that the Iranian people stood ready to defend their country in the event of any attempt to close down the nation's nuclear programme. “Any finger that will trigger the bullet, the Iranian people will cut it,” he told a press conference at the D8 summit of developing nations.*******

Is Iran working on producing an atomic bomb? Do bears poop in the forest?
