As told by most history textbooks in the U.S., the Korean War started with a June 25, 1950, invasion from the communist north and the freedom-loving U.S. came to the aid of the besieged democratic Republic of Korea in the south. The reality was very different.
Not only did the RoK’s dictatorial, fascist-like regime of U.S. puppet Syngman Rhee make the first move, it had prepared for it for more than a year in advance. These preparations included using paramilitary fascist organizations and the regular army for cross-border raids on northern villages to test the defenses of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Absolute total 100% BS. I have family friends who fought in that war. I have Korean neighbors who remember the War and have told me first hand accounts of the North Korean attack. This article is the biggest pile of garbage I’ve ever seen posted on Free Republic.

I don’t know why you bother to post articles from the likes of Workers World. I’ve seen these people in action. If the United States pulled out of Iraq and Afghanistan, unilaterally cancelled all world debt, cut its C02 emissions by 90% and agreed to pay “reparations” to every nation on the planet, they would still criticise you over something.
These people are your enemies. Make no mistake about it. They will be satisfied only with the complete and utter destruction of everything you are and hold dear.

Good post. Takes me back to the early ‘70s at college where small groups of naive, pimple-faced kids thought they were really cool because they went to meetings to discuss Trotsky. It was the only way they could meet people.

There are always historical revisionists (aka, whackos). Remember the Mexican historian who claimed to have “evidence” that the Alamo defenders actually surrender and were murdered like whimpering cowards. She had found some person who wrote that, so that became “evidence.” Any commie supporter could have made up the North Korean massacre story which lefties pass off as “the truth.”

This article has more lies per inch of print than anything I’ve seen in years. It is a very creative piece of writing even by the demanding standards of Worker’s World.
Like most commie BS you could spend all night refuting the lies but that would take all night. A couple of high points are:
The US Military in the ROK (KMAG) before June 25, 1950 consisted of a few dozen REMF types. They weren’t in “operational control” of anything, except maybe a few bars and domiciles for young ladies of questionable virtue around Seoul.
President Rhee would have loved to mount an invasion to liberate the north from the communists. They only problem was, he didn’t have the weapons to do it. The ROK Army had no tanks, no anti tank weapons, no anti aircraft weapons. Their heaviest artillery piece was the M3 105 mm infantry howitzer. And they didn’t have many of those.
In order to keep Rhee from “making trouble” the Truman administration deliberately left the ROK effectively disarmed. Because of this and because our ambassador, Mr. Joseph Muccio, stated publicly that the ROK was not in America’s sphere of influence (paging April Gillespie) the North Koreans thought they could attack and overwhelm the ROK without US interference.
When the North Koreans retreated from Taejon after the Pusan Perimeter breakout, they massacred thousands of civilians, hundreds of ROK POWs and 36 US POWs.
There were a lot of documented atrocities in South Korea during the war. Most of the have been proven to have been perpetrated by the North Korean forces

Although the post is hard-core Commie propaganda, I’d bet that at least 10% of Demonrats would heartily agree with it. Many more would swallow it as truth. The Demonrat Party is part of the Left, after all, and there is a continuous spectrum from the useful idiots like Jimmah Carter through the crypto-Commies to the Maoists. They’re all united behind B. Hussein Obama in his campaign.
How is this article even allowed on FR? I’ve never seen such a load of crap in all my time here. My father was a Korean War vet and when he read this he got mad as hell. These people that wrote this are ugly and full of hate. They should be deported to North Korea.

Does anyone recall what was happening in Korea in 1950?? Probably not - I didn’t get there till Fall 1952 and the fighting was fierce. The brutal atrocities by the Chinese and NK were well known. Most of those heard of on our side were small scale (half dozen) and attributed to the heat of the moment - adrenalin rushing, shooting wildly to keep from being shot - that kind of traumatic moment.
