Floating 'Lilypad City' Could Help Climate-Change Refugees
Fox News ^ | 7-7-08

Posted on 07/07/2008 12:19:19 PM PDT by Babu

Imagine what life would be like floating around the world on a giant island capable of holding 50,000 people and completely sustaining itself. Well, welcome to "Lilypad City."

Designed like a lily pad, the innovation by award-winning Belgian architect Vincent Callebaut could be used as a permanent refuge for those whose homes have been covered by water in the future.

"I think trying to accommodate the millions of people left homeless by environmental changes will prove to be one of the great challenges of the 21st century," he told the Daily Mail. "Some countries spend billions of pounds working on making their beaches and dams bigger and stronger. But the Lilypad project is actually a long-term solution to the problem of the water rising. The goal is to create a harmonious coexistence of humans and nature."

Well, welcome to "Lilypad City."

The only way to get to "Lilypad City" is to lick a toad.

This global warming has been going on for quite a while now — which cities have been flooded out so far (and NOLA doesn’t count)?

So, lets see if I follow this... we can’t put an oil rig out of sight over the horizon from the shore due to the view, but cities would welcome these monstrosities parking off the coast? Got it.

"could be used as a permanent refuge for those whose homes have been covered by water in the future."

The sea isn't going to rise, even if all the ice in the world melts. Al Gore's film is pure fiction-fantasy.

if all that sea ice is already in the oceans then i surmise it would be the same concept of ice melting in a glass of water. does the water level rise in the glass as the ice melts? no.

I think this is a great idea!

All the urbanites who think cities are great can pack up and move to these floating epitomes of their worldview.

The rest of us luddites who like land and driving cars can stay here.

They can have pure democracies on their little paradise pads, and we can stick with a republic here on land.

And when they start griping, as they inevitably will, they can scoot their little slice of heaven over to France.

How much feces will these people excrete and where will it go?

And who will they hurl it at!

From KCBS-San Francisco

"One tree sitter was arrested Tuesday after the university hired arborists to clear some of the scaffolding, ropes and other equipment the tree sitters have used to stay perched in the oak grove since December 2006.

A university spokesman had earlier that day indicated that no tree sitters would be forcibly removed until the safety of both the police and the demonstrators could be assured.

But one tree sitter, a woman calling herself Millipede, was arrested after allegedly biting one of the workers trying to remove her supplies. The demonstrators also hurled human waste at them to disrupt the operation."

"Would ya look at that, Myrtle? There goes neighborhood.

But seriously, it's been done before.

Hundreds of years ago, in what is now Mexico, Tenochtitlan was once the center of the Aztec world. Their "floating city," built on a lake and surrounded by canals, covered most of today's Mexico City. It had many more than 50,000 people.

The city of Tenochtitlan covered an estimated 8 to 13.5 square kilometers and they expanded with floating islands -

Today, in the city of Xochimilco, south of Tenochtitlan, they continue to grow floating gardens, on the same idea as the ancient city/

But wouldn’t they actually be contributing to the only real problem associated with alleged global warming, rising sea levels? They would be displacing sea water with these pads.

Wow! A solution in search of a problem!!

Actually, I sort of like it. Imagine building thousands of these "pads" using the assets of Liberal/Socialist/Communist/Environmentalist/Democrat traitors. Then imagine deporting those same people to “the pads”. And finally imagine revoking their citizenship and permanently denying them entry to this county.

Imagine all the people... ;-)

Great reader comment from the original post of this at the Daily Mail:

I think these 'lily pads' are a great idea, they would make ideal 'prisons' thereby freeing up our land prisons ready to house all those young people who will be sentenced for carrying a knife/weapon.
