Imagine what life would be like floating around the world on a giant island capable of holding 50,000 people and completely sustaining itself. Well, welcome to "Lilypad City."
Designed like a lily pad, the innovation by award-winning Belgian architect Vincent Callebaut could be used as a permanent refuge for those whose homes have been covered by water in the future.
"I think trying to accommodate the millions of people left homeless by environmental changes will prove to be one of the great challenges of the 21st century," he told the Daily Mail. "Some countries spend billions of pounds working on making their beaches and dams bigger and stronger. But the Lilypad project is actually a long-term solution to the problem of the water rising. The goal is to create a harmonious coexistence of humans and nature."

These Libs are whacked.
HAHAHAHAHA What are these ignoramuses smokin?
The only way to get to "Lilypad City" is to lick a toad.
Earth to Greenies: “The Jetsons” is NOT a documentary !
Wouldn’t 50,000 sets of luggage be far, far cheaper?
These things would be fun in a hurricane!
This global warming has been going on for quite a while now — which cities have been flooded out so far (and NOLA doesn’t count)?
If you build them, the libs will come!
This might help people in New Orleans and Miami, but I can’t quite see it as affordable for the millions in Bangladesh.
So, lets see if I follow this... we can’t put an oil rig out of sight over the horizon from the shore due to the view, but cities would welcome these monstrosities parking off the coast? Got it.
So what will the greenies do with the sewer flow ... just dump it out the bottom of the lilypad?
Doesn’t sound very “green”
What happens why they float to under 66 Degrees South Latitude?
What happens why they float to under 66 Degrees South Latitude?
Homer Simpson has the best plan of all- living under the sea, swimming and eating shrimp to his hearts content.
Um, anyone know what a “roque wave” is?
Looks like a great place to be during a hurricane.
I think you mean a “rouge” wave.
heehee.
The sea isn't going to rise, even if all the ice in the world melts. Al Gore's film is pure fiction-fantasy.
Hey, I already saw this with Kevin Costner, it was called
“Water World”.
Sucked then too.
There is a tribe of indians in Lake Titicaca who live on floating islands:

One of the floating Uros islands in Lake Titicaca. Don't rock the boat, baby.
just shaking head. seems thats all i can muster anymore reading about these idiots and thier plans for our future survival.
And all the lilypad cities will have tangerine trees and marmalade skies.....
Whoa! It’s “rogue” wave.
if all that sea ice is already in the oceans then i surmise it would be the same concept of ice melting in a glass of water. does the water level rise in the glass as the ice melts? no.
... or possibly even a “rogue” wave.
Threeheehee.
Oh, the salesmen aren't ignoramuses.
Well, either you're closing your eyes
To a situation you do now wish to acknowledge
Or you are not aware of the caliber of disaster indicated
By the presence of a pool table global warming in your community.
Ya got trouble, my friend, right here,
How much feces will these people excrete and where will it go?
I think this is a great idea!
All the urbanites who think cities are great can pack up and move to these floating epitomes of their worldview.
The rest of us luddites who like land and driving cars can stay here.
They can have pure democracies on their little paradise pads, and we can stick with a republic here on land.
And when they start griping, as they inevitably will, they can scoot their little slice of heaven over to France.
And who will they hurl it at!
From KCBS-San Francisco
"One tree sitter was arrested Tuesday after the university hired arborists to clear some of the scaffolding, ropes and other equipment the tree sitters have used to stay perched in the oak grove since December 2006.
A university spokesman had earlier that day indicated that no tree sitters would be forcibly removed until the safety of both the police and the demonstrators could be assured.
But one tree sitter, a woman calling herself Millipede, was arrested after allegedly biting one of the workers trying to remove her supplies. The demonstrators also hurled human waste at them to disrupt the operation."

“Lake Titicaca”
Every time I read that, I hear W. C. Fields’ voice in my head!

"Would ya look at that, Myrtle? There goes neighborhood.
But seriously, it's been done before.
Hundreds of years ago, in what is now Mexico, Tenochtitlan was once the center of the Aztec world. Their "floating city," built on a lake and surrounded by canals, covered most of today's Mexico City. It had many more than 50,000 people.
The city of Tenochtitlan covered an estimated 8 to 13.5 square kilometers and they expanded with floating islands -
Today, in the city of Xochimilco, south of Tenochtitlan, they continue to grow floating gardens, on the same idea as the ancient city/
You know, when the Muslims take over Europe maybe the last Euros can design a bunch of these cities and just float away — kinda like Battlestar Galactica but on the high seas.
Wait a minute! This could be the answer to everything. We round up all liberals, leftists, etc. and pile them on lilypads and let them float until they are far, far away and can no further do damage to us.
But wouldn’t they actually be contributing to the only real problem associated with alleged global warming, rising sea levels? They would be displacing sea water with these pads.
About time that roquey boat got straightened out.
Don't know Butthead cause Libs are crammed full of ugly foul smelling Shiite.
Actually, I sort of like it. Imagine building thousands of these "pads" using the assets of Liberal/Socialist/Communist/Environmentalist/Democrat traitors. Then imagine deporting those same people to “the pads”. And finally imagine revoking their citizenship and permanently denying them entry to this county.
Imagine all the people... ;-)
I think these 'lily pads' are a great idea, they would make ideal 'prisons' thereby freeing up our land prisons ready to house all those young people who will be sentenced for carrying a knife/weapon.

That is certainly more attractive than a windmill / sarc
What malarkey. The Dutch figured out the answer to the problem some centuries ago, and accomplished it with “wind power”. It’s called “dikes and pumps”.
What will they do for employment? Where will they sleep? What will they eat? What power's the “village”?
Socialist utopians run amok.
