Recent comments by well-known black Republicans J.C. Watts and Armstrong Williams that they're conflicted about the upcoming presidential elections and are contemplating voting for Barack Obama have sent shock waves through the Republican Party.
I'm hearing many black Republicans echoing similar sentiments. They say that because of the historical significance of casting a vote for the first legitimate black presidential candidate, they may cross party lines. These statements don't surprise me.

I am voting for McCain because he’s white and a veteran. I also don’t wish to spend the next four years paying for something I had nothing to do with and that’s called reparations. I am also not fond of socialist white reeducation camps and gun control..

It’s all about $$$$$$$$ and the possibility of more handouts, more ‘affirmative action’ and the holiest of holies: reparations.
All this means is that Calvin Stephens was never a Republican, simply a political opportunist. He recognized the GOP was the party in which he could most rapidly advance in his self-promotion. Nothing new here.
I doubt they like Obama. They might not have considered supporting Obama except the GOP chose a liberal who depends on the Democrat Lieberman to whisper answers to him.
If McCain wins the nomination, he will be the FIRST Vietnam Vet to get to be President, and he might well be the last as well, because the rest of them are getting pretty old.
Of the two things that are important, and neither really is, I’d rather hang on electing the first Vietnam Veteran as more important than the first Black. After all, the Vietnam Veteran is so because of a choice they made, while the Black candidate was just born that way, and we don’t reward people for how they are born.
Which Republicans are these? Can't be the fiscal conservatives because Obama is a Marxist.
Can't be the social conservatives because Obama is a kill'em on the way out and 24 hours after as well.
And it certainly can't be the security conservatives because Barack wants to not only have open borders, and yes I know McCain has his head planted well up his descending colon here, he wants to throw away all of the gains made in the Middle East against jihadism.
So tell me, which Republicans will be voting for Obama the Marxist from Manchuria?
I bet we won't be hearing that from Larry Elders, Thomas Sowell or Walter Williams.
It sounds like their republicanism was more about find a “niche” that it was about principle.

Me? I’m voting for the survival of America, liberty, Western civilization and my own personal self, I’m voting for McCain like my life depends on it.
In 1960, it would have been pretty hard to find a Catholic who also was normally considered by his friends and neighbors as a conservative Republican, who DIDN’T vote for Kennedy that year.
May have regretted it later, but still, the vote was definitely for JFK that year.
As a black conservative, I am INFURAIATED that most blacks vote on race. It’s absolutely insane. Values and principles over color. Having a black person in the White House shouldn’t mean anything in itself. And it sure as hell shouldn’t mean that blacks become “better off” especially since it’s not the federal government’s job to support the well being of one group over that of another. Most blacks just walk right along with this insanity and it’s very disturbing.

Voting for a person because of race is the last thing on my mind. I’m more interested where they stand on the issues. Voting for a black person just because it is their turn is ridiculous.

Apparently skin color IS more important than qualifications. Even to black republicans. What a shame.
