Why Black Republicans Support Obama
World Net Daily ^ | 07/07/08 | Jesse Lee Peterson

Posted on 07/07/2008 2:45:34 PM PDT by abigail2

Recent comments by well-known black Republicans J.C. Watts and Armstrong Williams that they're conflicted about the upcoming presidential elections and are contemplating voting for Barack Obama have sent shock waves through the Republican Party.

I'm hearing many black Republicans echoing similar sentiments. They say that because of the historical significance of casting a vote for the first legitimate black presidential candidate, they may cross party lines. These statements don't surprise me.

I really hate to say this.....BUT...putting myself in their shoes I think that it would be difficult, if not impossible to resist casting such a historical vote. I hope that they dont but I just cant get too angry with them for considering it.

So, how did black Republicans get to a point where they're willing to abandon their own "values" to vote for a socialist? To get an understanding of this phenomenon, I recently interviewed several black Republican leaders on my radio program. Calvin Stephens, chairman of the African-American Republican Leadership Council in Texas, said that he's voting for Obama because this is a "black pride moment!" Can you imagine if a white person in a similar position even hinted at voting for a candidate because it was a "white pride moment"? That person would be castigated, labeled a "racist" and fired.

A truly historical vote would be a vote against the content of Obama’s character, not for the color of his skin.

Well, if THEY are going to define THEMSELVES, judge the candidates, and decide THEIR VOTE on the basis of RACE, then why shouldn't I judge THEM on the basis of race?

I have always bought into the idea that it was the content of one's character and the ideas one supported that mattered. Thanks, Watts and Williams. I now see that I was naive and wrong. What matters is RACE. Glad you cleared that up for me. I will endeavor to act accordingly in the future.

It’s all about $$$$$$$$ and the possibility of more handouts, more ‘affirmative action’ and the holiest of holies: reparations.

Calvin Stephens, chairman of the African-American Republican Leadership Council in Texas, said that he's voting for Obama because this is a "black pride moment!"

All this means is that Calvin Stephens was never a Republican, simply a political opportunist. He recognized the GOP was the party in which he could most rapidly advance in his self-promotion. Nothing new here.

If McCain wins the nomination, he will be the FIRST Vietnam Vet to get to be President, and he might well be the last as well, because the rest of them are getting pretty old.

Of the two things that are important, and neither really is, I’d rather hang on electing the first Vietnam Veteran as more important than the first Black. After all, the Vietnam Veteran is so because of a choice they made, while the Black candidate was just born that way, and we don’t reward people for how they are born.

Plus all the Republicans voting for Obama because they don’t want to vote for a McCain.

Which Republicans are these? Can't be the fiscal conservatives because Obama is a Marxist.

Can't be the social conservatives because Obama is a kill'em on the way out and 24 hours after as well.

And it certainly can't be the security conservatives because Barack wants to not only have open borders, and yes I know McCain has his head planted well up his descending colon here, he wants to throw away all of the gains made in the Middle East against jihadism.

So tell me, which Republicans will be voting for Obama the Marxist from Manchuria?

In 1960, it would have been pretty hard to find a Catholic who also was normally considered by his friends and neighbors as a conservative Republican, who DIDN’T vote for Kennedy that year.

May have regretted it later, but still, the vote was definitely for JFK that year.

As a black conservative, I am INFURAIATED that most blacks vote on race. It’s absolutely insane. Values and principles over color. Having a black person in the White House shouldn’t mean anything in itself. And it sure as hell shouldn’t mean that blacks become “better off” especially since it’s not the federal government’s job to support the well being of one group over that of another. Most blacks just walk right along with this insanity and it’s very disturbing.

Black pride? Kind of sounds like the same reason that black jury acquitted O.J. It doesn't matter what they've done, or what they stand for, it's the color of their skin that gets the vote. As Donald Trump would say: Very shallow.
