Taking Us Back To Mud Huts And Loincloths
Investor's Business Daily | 2008-07-08

Posted on 07/07/2008 5:48:41 PM PDT by rabscuttle385

A prominent journalist doesn't just want our air conditioners turned down. He wants them off. This is the sort of nonsense we're getting from the anti-energy, global-warming-is-making-us-sick left.

Time's Joe Klein probably thought he was being clever when he wrote his late June essay on the evils of cooling headlined "Kill Your Air Conditioner." Instead, he wrote yet another chapter in the left's book of environmental silliness.

"The unnecessary refrigeration of America has become a chronic disease," said Klein. "Air conditioning is bad for the planet, and for national security, and for our balance-of-payments deficit."

Well, at the moment the temperature inside my home is 86 degrees. Productivity is out of the question. I have turned on the air conditioner for the first time today, waiting until the peak work hours demand was over and now I am going to cool off to a balmy 78 degrees without guilt. Let those who preach this kind of stuff start first. I’d love to see our wonderful hypocritical celebrities and pundits and assorted whackos start with themselves: Turn off your air conditioners, recycle your autos, retire your hot water heaters and water softeners and refrigerators. Toss out those hair straighteners and blow dryers, forget the irons and computers, microwaves, blenders and toasters. Foreswear airplanes, cruise ships, subways and mass transet. Quit your gyms and health clubs, drain your pools and stay away from all fast foods and restaurants. Return to the life of the caveman or cavewoman and then tell me if it works for you. Bet you couldn’t even survive a week without your conveniences.

When Al Gore can tell the U.N. that cigarette smoking is a significant factor contributing to global warning, and liberals don’t even blink, you know what’s at the end of the road they want to take us down.

I’ve followed these whackjobs for about 5 years and they truly believe we will be living like primitives because of Peak Oil, climate change (iow, whatever that means from one day to the next), die-off due to peak oil and climate change, and whatever nasty apocalypse they can also think of to provide self-gratification (yes, I do mean that) for their miserable selves.

I can only say that in the Kingdom of San Francisco after this all falls down, the Boy Scouts will be the only ones who survive. They know how to make fire.

Seriously. I’ve read rants about not being able to make fire because we won’t know how to make matches. (STOP laughing! It isn’t funny. These people are scaring themselves into fetal positions)

Or how we won’t know how to make glass. Peak silicon or something like that. They have scads of hysteria about Peak Ancient Sunlight, and Peak Rare Metals, and Peak Food.

All of them are performing a mental masturbation with all this hysteria.

Empahsis on the 'mental'.

People like Klein have gone well past the point where they can be ignored without worrying they might be a threat. For the safety of our children, the future and our sanity, they need to be locked away in an asylum for the criminally insane for the remainder of their lives.

Air conditioning and refrigeration are probably the biggest advance in human medicine and quality of life after indoor plumbing/sanitation. Air conditioning making the siesta a luxury, and refrigeration making food poisoning a rare occurrence.

All these home conveniences? Just blame Michael Moore’s liberal friend Linda Ronstadt’s grandfather-Lloyd G. Copeman. He had 400 patents-many related to heating and refriegeration devices. Lloyd Copeman was no liberal, I suspect.

BHO has yet to say how he would reduce prices of gas. Even if the “Evil” BIG OIL COMPANIES agreed to work for free and forgo their obscene 6 cent per gallon profit, would Americans settle for paying $3.83 per gallon instead of $3.89?

I hardly think so and the real shame is that the MSM won't point this out or ask him that simple question.

Oh great Messiah, what if the evil oil companies waived their horribly obscene profits of 6 cents per gallon. Will you then be happy with gas prices?

I doubt they ever ask him.

Simply put, I don’t think BHO’s ideas are much different than Jimmy Carter’s and he would dump our economy into the tank if he were President. Only an idiot thinks that corporations pay taxes. He is either a total idiot or thinks that most of Americans are too stupid to figure it out. If McDonalds had a 6 cent per burger “obscene profit tax” slapped on them. They would simply raise their price by 6 cents and pass the cost on to the rest of us. Is that what he proposes to lower gas prices???? What a mental-midget.

The death toll was 209.

Yes, I recalled a large death toll but couldn’t recall the exact place. I did remember that a lot of elderly died in Europe.

It seems that a lot of the younger Europeans go off ‘for holiday’ in the heat of the summer, leaving the elderly in the cities. Then the power went out.

I read a thing by (I think) PJ O'Rourke about environmentalists. He said he'd like to give them a shovel and a book of matches and say, "Here. Don't come back until you've built a civilization that can do the things ours can do for its people." Laughed my butt off, and decided, then and there, that I'd say something similar if any environutjob ever dissed me about my AC, or fridge, or anything.

Joe Klein: Come live in the Central Valley of California for awhile. The average temp is triple digits, and it drops to a little below 80 during the night. City wuss. You won't last a week without AC....

I thought it was closer to 1000 than the 293 early death toll

This was played up a bit by the libs as no ACs for the elderly (which would be Republican’s fault of course - and an excuse for more welfare and freevies) but I believe most was ignorance and possibly some neglect

Running water - wet towels - cold water in the tub

Paris had a huge death toll from the heat that year to I believe

Odd the country bumpkins and suburban people did not die in those huge numbers

Golly - Bill Clinton did not put them up in air-conditioned hotels or bring in truckloads of ice!

[Paris had a huge death toll ]

That’s part of what I remember. The elderly don’t always think to do things like the cold water in the tub.

Also, I think some may have been homeless people.

I told you the story about visiting my grandparents in an apartment in St. Louis when I was young.

It was stifling, even late at night. There is not the air circulation when large buildings are all around. The country people at least have the open air and a bit of breeze.

What astounded me in Chicago in 1995 - was the death toll hit 293 by the 15th of the month

Actualy my husband and I are pretty sparing about using AC and we do live in the Central Valley where it was 107 today and should be hotter tomorrow and the next day. If I have work to do at home, then I run the AC but otherwise it pretty well stays off. We broke down and got a room AC for our bedroom a couple years ago. We use it sparingly also, not because we’re environmentalists but rather because of our Scot pennypinching ways.

It is simple.
They want to kill the vast majority of people. They really do. All these population control games will end in some body saying “Well we aren't depopulating fast enough, so lets speed things up!”

Before this ends, I fear the cult of global warming will kill a lot of people by force.

Such is the inevitable end of totalitarianism and its many forms. Just look at Stalin, Hitler, Ceausescu, Mugabe, and the countless other dictatorships and tyrannies throughout history.
