Will the President be allowed to speak at the convention?

Ok, I was wondering with McCain trying to prove how much of a "maverick" and "moderate" along with his publically trashing of Pres. Bush, will he allow Pres. Bush to introduce him or even speak at the convention? Pres. Bush may not be popular with Democrats and some Democrat/Independents, but he is still at least somewhat liked by Republicans.

Do you think McCain will allow President Bush or Vice President Cheney to speak at the national convention, or will he pretend like they do not exist?

By the way, there is a rumor McCain may change it up like Obammesiah and make his acceptance speech more "town-hall" like, since he's not the best speech make. I'm not sure it will be exactly like a town hall exactly but it may be him walking through the crowd or doing something different. What do you all think?

Uh, truly, who cares? W has been a disappointment these last two years, McCain much more so during the same period.

I wish that McCain could truly be replaced at the convention by a decent conservative, such as Mark Sanford. A Mark Sanford/Sarah Palin ticket would truly do much better on November 4, IMHO.

Not likely. What do you want to do: make your score or win?

Of course Clinton and Reagan spoke when their successors were being chosen so we would expect GWB would also but not necessarily. There is precedent for that as Lyndon Johnson did not speak at the ‘68 convention. Whether this was his choice or if Humphrey requested it I don’t know. Mr Bush is such a decent man I suspect he will offer to no show up if he thinks it will hurt McCain and the party. This might be a measure of McCain’s decency as well. If he truly is the “maverick” then he will insist Bush be allowed to speak, and public relations be damned.

President Bush is the leader of the party right now. Of course he will speak. It is NOT John McCain’s convention. He is just the nominee. It is the GOP convention.

Personally, with the President’s polling being so negative (but not so negative as Congress) and McCain’s need to focus the party and the country on the future, I think President Bush will not insist on attending the convention and McCain will not ask him.

President Bush would probably rather be clearing brush on his ranch in Crawford, anyway.

Cheney, no. Bush by taped address on day 1, not in person. That’s my oh so humble predicitions.

What do you all think?

I think McCain's polls will be so pathetically bad around convention time that he will be forced to bow out, siting medical problems, and a new candidate will be named. At least this is what I HOPE will happen.

Who claims to know if President Bush even wants to speak at the convention?

Really? Then where are they? I don't see any Republicans rushing to be with Bush as they run for re-election. Mr. "Mission Accomplished" seems to be about as popular at GOP gatherings as radioactive "yellow cake" these days...
