PTSD is real and can be dangerous. But it’s been a heck of a long time since McCain was a POW and if he’d been suffering from severe PTSD all this time, while having a high profile political career, it would have made plenty of headlines and the GOP establishment would have made sure he didn’t get the nomination. However, if he up and decided to slug Bubba for this smarmy smear comment, I’d attribute it to moral indignation, not PTSD. And I’d applaud!

A phrase often used when McCain was just candidate in the primaries few thought would win was: “temperamentally unsuited to be president.” Republicans seemed to used that phrase more than anyone else. The phrase hasn’t been heard so often since he achieved his 40% victory in the primaries.
I don’t worry about McCain snapping because of the POW experience after 40 years. I do wonder what effects the experience had on him psychologically that might have been present all during those 40 years since.
He has had some notable displays and anger and temper over the years.
