The Seattle Opera will host lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender nights during designated Friday performances in the 2008-09 season, the opera house announced Monday.
The LGBT nights will include $100 admission to orchestra seats, which usually cost between $94 and $140; private intermission receptions, including complimentary refreshments, and free admission to a pre-opera lecture.

Losers, Grubs, Bums, and Twerps?
Consider the possibility that the audience for opera now consists exclusively of gays and geezers.
They just might be acting sensibly.
Things have changed since the days Al Capone cried at Caruso’s performances.
Deeper and deeper into the pit we go. ;-)
Isn’t every night at the opera gay night? Wouldn’t it be bigger news if the Seattle opera declared Wednesdays “straight people night”-??
I see my share of performances at the Lyric in Chicago every year. Nail, head. How could anyone tell the difference it's LGBT night?
Or perhaps "biker's Night".
What I can’t figure out, is why should who a person has sex with make a difference in being invited to a performance?
This is a great idea. Can we get them their own water fountains, too?
If it reduces the number of them on "normal people" nights, I'm all for it.
If you have to ask, then Perpetual-Victimhood and Endless-Grievance-Society/Identity Politics obviously is beneath your common-sensibilities.
;)
Personally, I couldn't care less, which is the opposite effect that The Sexual Carnival Voting Bloc wants to have. Since they're all Vulgarity Vampires, feeding off the outrage that they intentionally generate, I ignore them. Besides, I've never liked opera, so if they want to trash it in their own image, no big loss.
Besides, President/Supreme Imam Obama will ban opera so as not to offend the Girls-Have-Cooties Religion.
And during these nights, they take down all the different bathroom signs for a frolicking free for all - who knows what you’ll find in there!
“private intermission receptions”
The question is who will be receiving what during the above.
Bah! Humbuggery!
If they’re trying to get the girls more involved, that might make sense. Otherwise, opera companies offering outreach programs for gays is sort of like strip clubs offering outreach programs for straight men.
Being “normal,” I am finding that as more and more special interest groups get special spiffs and laws in *their* favor, am *I* (well, “we”) not the one(s) being discriminated against?
I want Short Blond Housewife Day at Kennywood, Dammit!
And I want the ACLU to declare that EVERY “dumb blond” joke be made a HATE SPEECH crime. I want housewives to band together so that we have a newly concocted label along the lines of “Domestic Goddess” or “Household Administrator” and be given protected minority status.
I want to be made into a victim so that all my shortcomings, my bad decisions and being raised by generations of blonds (all natural, thank you very much) entitles me to pity, government grants, loans and entitlements.
I'VE BEEN OPPRESSED!!!
I’VE BEEN OPPRESSED!!!
And which bathrooms do the so called transgendered and bi use -- M or W or ???
