A homosexual man is suing a major Christian publisher for violating his constitutional rights and causing emotional pain, because its Bible versions refer to homosexuality as a sin. Bradley LaShawn Fowler, 39, of Canton, Mich., is seeking $60 million from Zondervan and another $10 million from Thomas Nelson Publishing in lawsuits filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, the Grand Rapids Press reported. Fowler filed his claim against Grand Rapids-based Zondervan yesterday, alleging its Bibles' references to homosexuality as a sin have made him an outcast from his family and contributed to physical discomfort and periods of "demoralization, chaos and bewilderment," the paper said. He filed suit against Tennessee publisher Thomas Nelson in June. Yesterday, U.S. District Judge Julian Abele Cook Jr. refused to appoint an attorney to represent Fowler in the Thomas Nelson case, saying the court "has some very genuine concerns about the nature and efficacy of these claims." Fowler, who is representing himself in both lawsuits, says in his complaint against Zondervan that the publisher intended to design a religious, sacred document to reflect an individual opinion or a group's conclusion to cause "me or anyone who is a homosexual to endure verbal abuse, discrimination, episodes of hate, and physical violence ... including murder."

How does one go about suing money?
Another piece of evidence to adopt a Loser Pays system.
Before Zondervan published its edition, no other Bibles included Leviticus 18:22?
I wonder if a few Thiefs are going to also sue for emotional distress since
Thou Shall Not Steal is also in the Bible....
he might consider just suing God.
If this lawsuit survives a motion dismiss, we are all in in deep kim chi.
I almost admire the guy for trying this. He’s got vision.
That guy looks stoned.
******************
It was hurtful!
If the case is devoid of merit, the loser does pay in Federal Court - it is called Rule 11, Federal Rules Civil Procedure, I believe.
We are all sinners, just some have been saved by grace through salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ.
The person responsible for death is going to have one hell of a law suite on his hands. Uhm I think that was Adam and/or maybe Eve.
(not intended in insult our British and Canadian Freeper friends)
Maybe he can try suing King James while he’s at it!! LOL!!
I think this is good. The nation isn’t so far down the slippery slope that this will fly. This is bound to produce a precedent that protects biblical speech.

Yeah, he wrote a book.
What he does with the goat, I don't wanna know.
If the guy has a problem with the book, he should take it up with the Author.

* snicker *
He’s selling a book on Amazon. Caution:
It'll be worse than deep kim chi. We'll become Canada.
And I mean no disrespect to all you fine Cannucks.
John / Billybob
John / Billybob
If that works, we could extend it.
All the guy has to do is get himself a homosexual judge and he has his 70 million.
Maybe he should sue the Court of St. James...................
If you can sue a “Ham Sandwich” you can sue money...............
The real question is if the courts tell him to go bugger himself, will he consider that a defeat or a victory?
I was recently involved in a case where a pro se plaintiff (and a lawyer to boot!) was hit for $6500 in Rule 11 sanctions. That was, however, only half of defendant's out of pocket lawyer expense. Nothing awarded for defendant's time and bother. Defendant is contemplated suing the out of control lawyer for malicious prosecution. Oh yeah, out of control lawyer is of course appealing grant of Rule 11 sanctions. Deal could end up costing defendant a bundle, while out of control lawyer pays nothing for his continued frivolous filings.
Grant of Rule 11 sanctions is entirely discretionary on part of judge, both as to whether they are granted and in what amount. So it's not really "loser pays." Unfortunately.
Counter sue for attempting to steal the publisher’s first amendment rights. Sue for $450,000,000.97. Might as well, he probably has a negative net worth anyway.
“This lawsuit probably could have been successful in Great Britain, or possibly Canada, but not in America (YET!).”
I don’t think it has any chance of being successful anywhere, but actually I would think it has more chance of a hearing in the “litigation-happy” US.
Amendment I Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech of people we like, or of the our allies in the press; or the right of the people we like peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Interesting lawsuit. Totally groundless, but an interesting concept.
Oh, Obama’s comments offended me. Maybe I can sue him.
Do murderers who are rebuked by family get to sue, too?
Doesn't his book refute the premise of his lawsuit?
I can't imagine his winning anything except his 15 minutes.
Seems like a 1st amendment case. But wait, Christians don’t get no steenking 1st amendment.
Sin is sin...homosexual behavior is akin to lying, stealing, murder, and it's basically putting one's self in front of God and His Word.
No way do I want his wet dream to become our nightmare.
BINGO.
This is a cheap way to use the legal system as advertising for his book.
Difficult to get but I still would not want the doors of the courthouse closed on threat of ‘loser pays’ no matter what.
S/he’d have a much better chance filing that suit in Canada.
He’s just following the “Constitutional right to not be offended” to its logical conclusion. In other countries, ministers have been convicted of “hate” for verbally teaching that homosexual behavior is sinful, so why not go after a publisher, under our deranged liability system?
There was one case in Canada in 2001, and one in America (Idaho, I think in 2004) where biblical verses were accepted by the courts as "hate literature" when placed in certain contexts. Hey, according to Supreme Court logic, those prior decisions constitute strong arguments in favor of criminalizing the bible.
Is there still a First Amendment?
He does make me chuckle. I have 2 Zondervan Bibles at home and one on the truck, I may just go buy another for the office.
Neal Boortz wrote a while back that losers leave the office at 5 and winners stay and get the work done. I left at 5 every day last week so I feel slighted anyone know a good lawyer?
Article says he is representing himself. Judge is going to toss this case out in short order.
Yesterday, a U.S. District Judge refused to appoint an attorney to represent Fowler in the Thomas Nelson case, saying the court "has some very genuine concerns about the nature and efficacy of these claims andCase dismissed!
Geoffery Fieger will take anything.
