Merkel Chides Obama for 'Electioneering' Abroad
Washington Post ^ | 7-9-08 | Jonathan Weisman

Conservative German Chancellor Angela Merkel today sternly warned Sen. Barack Obama against speaking at Berlin's famed Brandenburg Gate when he passes through Europe later in the month, with her spokesman telling reporters that such "electioneering" would be "inappropriate" at a site of such historical significance.

Merkel was responding to a report in the German magazine Der Spiegel, which said "the Berlin state government has reportedly been asked" whether Obama could speak at the columned structure where Ronald Reagan implored Mikhail Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall and where revelers famously celebrated the wall's demise. Obama is expected to be in the German capital July 24, the Agence France Presse reported.

No German candidate for high office would even think of using the National Mall or Red Square in Moscow for a rally because it would not be seen as appropriate.

Red Square, now there's an idea for Barry. Thanks to Merkel's spokesman.

Ah yes, the audacity of this egomaniac strikes again. What an embarrassment to this country he is! Can you imagine how offensive he would be as President with his haughty attitude?

Maybe not. From what I understand from reading various articles from yesterday, the final decision is up to the mayor of Berlin who happens to be a liberal twit who loves the idea of Obama speaking at the Gate.

Funny that this citizen of the world ends up trying to pull an “Ugly American” maneuver.

So Barack Hussein Obama is already causing an international incident with one of our allies by pissing them off for attempting to use one of their historical sites for his campaign. Not surprising. He is a POS after all.

One thing you can say about an Obama presidency (*shudder*), it will be a real gaffe-a-minute... that is, if it does not kill us.

Right you are. Obama’s ignorance of things beyond Harvard Square and Chicago are truly frightening, especially in regard to foreign affairs.

If Obama can not do his original dog and pony show he will find some other means to pull it off.
While not a Statesman, a Leader, a Patriot, he is without a doubt a political animal

Why wouldn’t Barry give one of his soaring speeches at the Brandnberg Gate? He so reminds me of President Reagan in every way !

OTOH, he'd probably call it Auschwitz.

Now that he’s thrown all his neo-Marxist best friends under the campaign train, the shameless con artist Barry Hussein wants to take his roadshow to the place where Ronald Reagan drove the first stake into the heart of the communist vampire, so he can posture as a Cold Warrior himself. Shameless!

No, no. The Brandenburg Gate is all wrong - it’s off message.
The context of WW II and the Cold War is like yesterday.

Obama is the new messiah. What he needs as a background is the Sea of Galilee so he can demonstrate the walking on the water shtick.

McCain has raised a little over $100,000 overseas, mostly in England.

Obama has raised over a $1,000,000 overseas including 2 fundraisers in China.

Obama attempts clownish imitations of Reagan and Kennedy, while Michelle does the same with Jackie O... I think this couple will stretch our imagination quite a bit.

I’ll be very surprised if Obama doesn’t backs down from this. What hubris-but I don’t think he’ll go ahead with it now, although I do admit he continues to amaze me with his ego. I think he is already President in his own mind.

"Senator Obama looks forward to his visit to Germany and his opportunity to meet with the Chancellor," said Obama spokesperson Jen Psaki. "He has considered several sites for a possible speech, and he will choose one that makes most sense for him and his German hosts."

Translation: Screw you, Madame Chancellor.

There is no debate, there is consensus, only deniers would dispute it: German Chancellor Angela Merkel is a racist. What possible other explanation could it be? Obama is a liberal black man, he wanted to do something, the Chancellor said no. I rest my case.

That's my understanding, and he'll likely get his opportunity to speak there, but only by inserting himself in domestic German politics for his personal, political gain. On the wrong side, I might add.

The good news, as an American tourist of the intelligent variety, I know he'll be giving his speech in German, anything less I'll be embarassed. A candidate should be fluent from childhood in the languages of nations they might later visit.

The Demos continue to try to call to mind JFK. That was 50 years ago and they need to give it up at some point.

He should do his speech at Nuremburg the stadium is still there and not used much since 45. The 5th army insignia is still on the walls but no big eagle to stand behind him.

Yes yes. He can descend on the stadium through the clouds in his plane to greet hordes of imported, cheering and saluting supporters.

All he needs is a Leni Riefenstahl to film it. Maybe Michael Moore.

If he choses to go ahead with his speech at the gate, Ms. Merkle should refuse to meet with him.

His arrogance and elitism is a bridge too far; this will backfire on him. I think Brit is going to talk about this tonight.

And then there is his convention acceptance speech at the great football stadium, because the convention hall just isn’t big enough for his ego. It turns out the media is very unhappy about this, and there is some discussion they will not even cover it (I know that is doubtful, but that is what I’m reading).

B. Hussein Obama — a legend in his own mind.
