Houston Chronicle went to a lot of work to compile the pay of those working for the city. Man being on the public dole does a body gooooood. Amazing how many of the top pay roles are education.

Might as well get it if you can. It’s the American Way.

I’m all for making a lot of money. Somehow I think those being paid with our taxes should be a bit more reasonable. Especially the education areas where teachers get paid squat but the director makes boo coo.

The port director job is probably a little low for what they make in other ports. And the chief and deputy medical examiners could easily make more in private practice.

One of the weird things in federal government is that Houston gets some of the highest locality pay of anywhere in the country.

I am all for people making money in the private sector. Government jobs are jobs that were not ones people ‘got rich’ and stayed in forever. They were to be service jobs, serving the public. Not to get rich off the public trough. Plus these people are administrators, making up layers and layers of ever growing bureaucracy.
Originally well to do people took on government roles (they left their successful businesses) for awhile, and then returned later to their businesses. They knew nad never expected to get rich from government service.

The Boston Herald has been doing this for quite a while. Go to their home page, click on "News & Opinion", roll your mouse over "Local/Regional", and click on "Boston Payroll."
You'll get the full name info on everyone from the mayor to the lowest lunchroom monitor.

When a dang sergeant is making more money than the Mayor, something is askew.
I liked this mayor at first, but he’s turning into Al Gore. So screw him.
I’d like trash collectors to make more than him.
But that’s all political bias. The Mayor of the fourth largest city in America shouldn’t be making less than a rank and file police officer.
I think it speaks to corruption within the police department. The problem isn’t that we’re paying the Mayor too little.
