On the last day of the G8 Summit in Japan, President Bush met with China’s President Hu Jintao (Transcript), India’s Prime Minister Manmohan Singh (Transcript) and Republic of Korea’s President Lee Myung-bak.

The President then delivered a statement as his final G8 Summit came to a close. (Transcript)

You know, oftentimes in the political process people talk big, but they never follow up. And so one of the key ingredients of these recent meetings was all of us need to be reminded that when we say we're going to do something, we got to do it. And so accountability is an important part of fulfilling our obligations.

President & Mrs. Bush returned to the United States this afternoon. Shortly after arriving at the White House, the President spoke about the FISA expansion bill that was finally passed by the Senate today. (Transcript)

This vital intelligence bill will allow our national security professionals to quickly and effectively monitor the plans of terrorists outside the United States, while respecting the liberties of the American people.

This legislation is critical to America's safety; it is long overdue.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice traveled to the countries of Bulgaria and Georgia. In Bulgaria, Dr. Rice received the Stara Planina Order, the nation’s highest distinction, for her role in obtaining the release of Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor jailed in Libya last year.

Secretary of Defense Robert Gates held a press conference today at the Pentagon and welcomed Panama's Minister of Government and Justice Daniel Delgado.

Quote of the Day:

President Bush: This bill will help our intelligence professionals learn who the terrorists are talking to, what they're saying, and what they're planning. It will ensure that those companies whose assistance is necessary to protect the country will, themselves, be protected from lawsuits for past or future cooperation with the government. It will uphold our most solemn obligation as officials of the federal government to protect the American people.

President George W. Bush meets with Chinese President Hu Jintao at the G8 Summit at The Windsor Hotel Toya Resort and Spa in Toyako July 9, 2008.

President Bush: The President and I discussed Taiwan. We discussed Sudan. We discussed trade. We discussed a variety of issues. I told the President I was looking forward to coming to the Olympics. I reminded him that not only am I coming, but my wife, my mother and dad will be there, and we're looking forward to your hospitality.

And of course, in this context, I -- the President and I have constantly had discussions about human rights and political freedom. He knows my position. And as I told our people, Mr. President, I don't need the Olympics to talk candidly with somebody who I've got good relations with.

So I'm looking forward to your hospitality, and I'm really looking forward to watching the American Olympic team compete, particularly with the mighty Chinese team. And I'm hoping to get tickets for the U.S.-Chinese basketball game. If you could help me get a ticket, I'd appreciate it. (Laughter.)

Sorry. I was playing cards and could not remember if I clicked on the post button. I am getting much better with spider solitaire and minesweeper. Minesweeper is a nice timed game. I am a beginner at minesweeper though.

Thanks for the dose jonny, sorry I was not around last night but my friend Phil came round to fix my vacuum cleaner and by the time he had gone it was late and I was tired as I had not had my usual nap so it was bed time for me.

President Bush: Thank you all very much. We've just finished our meetings here in Japan. I would call them very productive …

You know, oftentimes in the political process people talk big, but they never follow up. And so one of the key ingredients of these recent meetings was all of us need to be reminded that when we say we're going to do something, we got to do it. And so accountability is an important part of fulfilling our obligations …

We've enjoyed our stay here in Japan. I want to thank the Prime Minister once again for his grand hospitality. And I appreciate you all covering this summit. Thank you very much.
