Obama: He Loves Him Some Him
Slublog ^ | July 09, 2008

Barack Obama is a supremely arrogant man, and he displayed that arrogance in two separate episodes. First, Obama decided to move his acceptance speech from the Pepsi Center in Denver to the 76,000 seat Invesco Stadium.

Like the 'create myself a new presidential shield' embarrassment, this story shows the level of Obama's narcissism. His only consideration seems to be gratifying his own ego. Never mind the fact that the DNC is already cash-strapped for this convention, or the fact that Denver police and the Secret Service now have relatively little time to prepare a comprehensive security plan. Just ignore minor details like the networks who have already invested money preparing to cover the convention or the pressure this puts on his campaign staff.

I'm sure those thoughts never crossed his mind - all he's thinking about is the teeming throngs of adoring fans who will chant his name to the heavens and how awesome all of that is going to look on camera.

As if that weren't enough, Obama wants to use a visit to the historic Brandenburg Gate as just another campaign stop. German Chancellor Angela Merkel is not pleased.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel slammed a request by Barack Obama to give a speech this month before the Brandenburg Gate as "inappropriate", her deputy spokesman said Wednesday.

The conservative leader said that while she would be pleased to meet the US Democratic presidential hopeful, it would be wrong for him to hold a "campaign rally" at the historic symbol of German unity.

"It is unusual to do electioneering abroad," spokesman Thomas Steg told reporters.

"It is unusual to hold election rallies abroad. No German candidate for high office would even think of using the National Mall (in Washington) or Red Square in Moscow for a rally because it would not be seen as appropriate."

She just doesn't get it - doesn't she see that Obama is special?

Seriously, though, how much does one have to think of oneself to think that a partisan campaign recitation of talking points is equal to the historic speeches made my former presidents?

My disdain for Obama and the “moral” certainty of the Obamautons grows daily. I hope with all my heart that McCain is strong enough to beat him. Hopefully something can be done to correct whatever process allowed McCain to be nominated. It’s going to be decided by the gaffes, imo.

It's not “moral” certainty, it's infatuation. And when infatuation bumps up against reality what slowly dawns is disappointment. Ask any 20 something.

I never thought I would ever see, one more narcissistic than a Clinton be, but out from the Madrassa came, the big-eared, swollen-headed, Barack Hussein.

It all depends. If the mediots decide they love Obama at the stadium, they will only show zoom shots that make the stadium appear full. If they decide they love Hillary!, they will show wide angle shots that show vast empty seats in the stadium.

Or, if Obama has the money, he can bus in enough people to fill the stadium, with lots of free food and drink and live music.

If Obama has enough money, he can “buy a crowd”.

I think he will have the bucks.

And I read the MSM is having problems changing from the original venue to Mile High.

The general public may only see what his campaign wants to be seen.

Maybe PBS will put Gwen Ifill out in the crowd.

"Why are you here?"

"Oh, we heard there was this great big party with lots of free subs and beer and rock and roll!"

"Did you know this is Barack Obama's nomination celebration?"

"Who's he?"

The worst thing in the world happened to Obama: he now believes the hype. It’s like when Demi Moore was hot box office a few years back, and was quoted as saying she must really be a great actress. The truth is Moore is not a great actress, and Obama is not the Messiah. I thought he was smart enought not to buy into it, but apparently he couldn’t resist the mindless adulation.

Picture this, yesterday I had a short conversation with a BLACK man, about forty years old, handsome, well-built fellow with a flashing smile and more real charisma by accident than Obama will ever have, he works a full-time job with 12 hour shifts and operates a landscaping business in his spare time. This man is doing well by working hard, has a very cheerful attitude and is grateful for his opportunities. HE told ME that Barack Hussein is STUPID! I count that as the final nail in Hussein’s coffin.

How quickly people forgot his (was he is Californai when he said it?) condenscending small town flap comment during the PA primary.

There is a clear pattern here and amazingly it makes John Kerry look absolutely blue collar.

Obama's followers scare me more than he does. This week I sat next to a lady in her 50's on a flight from Minneapolis to San Francisco. She was wearing two home made bracelets on her right wrist. There were large fake diamond letters crudely glued to the bracelets. One said "VOTE", the other said "OBAMA".

It was disturbing (and amusing) to see an adult behaving like a 7th grader.

I disagree completely with this article. OK fine, Obama has a high opinion of himself, he feeds off of the adoration and attention. Duh.

But I don't think that's why he wants a huge stadium crowd. He's doing that for totally practical reasons. He is a practicing demagogue. A giant stadium filled with screaming fans?

It's political theater and hype brought to a very grand level. He knows that a certain percentage of "the masses" fall for this sort of thing. Big crowds, big lights. It's show biz. Socialists employ these tactics very well.

The Nazis were perhaps the best ever at it. Huge crowds, spiffy new logos and emblems....they create mass hysteria, which is the foundation of the Obama campaign.

As if that weren't enough, Obama wants to use a visit to the historic Brandenburg Gate

Yea, the dots connect. What a shocker. One last thought, the stadium thing is also a classic example of political dick-wagging. Look what I can do. Look at my crowd. I'm the king. Look at how powerful I am.

But it isn't merely self-serving narcissism. It's calculated, intentional demagogery.
