Obama in Germany? (Satire w/ Photoshop!)

At Epcot's German Pavilion, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) will highlight his international savvy by wearing what he calls "the everyday clothing of the German people."

Reeling from an international misstep, the Obama campaign retreated from a planned speech at Berlin's famed Brandenburg Gate.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed concern that the event could be considered partisan "electioneering." The site had previously featured historic speeches from presidents Kennedy and Reagan.

Obama campaign spokesperson Linda Douglass announced a new venue at a press briefing this morning. "While we thank Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit for his support, we have decided to promote our international credentials a bit closer to home," she said.

Instead of the historic German landmark, the Democratic candidate will speak at the World Showcase German Pavilion in Disney's Epcot Center.

The change not only reflects the importance of Florida's swing voters, but also Obama's recent discovery that Germany is not an American state. When criticized for his initial misunderstanding, Obama said, "57, 56, whatever. What's important is that I intend to win every state in the nation." He called further discussion of the matter "an unfortunate distraction."

Making the most of the unique site, Obama's stage will be situated between German-themed gift shop Der Bücherwurm and World Showcase Lagoon. Disney agreed to repaint Epcot's massive, spherical Spaceship Earth exhibit to resemble Obama's campaign logo, provided two large mouse ears were added to the sides. Available for sale throughout the park, the modified logo will be included on T-shirts, book bags, plastic mugs, ceramic figures, hats, Christmas ornaments, bedding, shot glasses, pencils, pencil holders, bibs, slippers, and many, many, many other souvenir items.

As of press time, the theme of the speech had not been determined. Speaking off the record, Democratic insiders pushed Obama to woo the youth vote with a message of "Ich bin ein Mouseketeer." However, party pollsters recommend an aggressive stance against obesity-causing transfats with the defiant message, "Mr. Disney, tear down this churro stand!"

When asked if the candidate would visit the many other national pavilions featured in Epcot's World Showcase, Douglass said no. "Frankly, we can't afford to have him photographed near the Morocco one."
