Wait. The ACLU?
The Nevada ACLU has declared its support for an individuals right to bear arms, apparently making it the first state affiliate in the nation to buck the national organizations position on the Second Amendment.
The state board of directors reached the decision this month after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment protects the rights of individuals to own handguns.

Let’s hope it starts a trend!
Nevada has a long, proud tradition of libertarian skepticism of government overreach, Peck said. An individuals right to bear arms, not surprisingly, is in the Nevada constitution.
Since when do groups have rights? The Constitution and Bill of Rights only recognizes individual rights. Why would the 2nd amendment be any different?
I don't. Whenever the ACLU is on the same side of an issue as me, it really makes me question it.
So like, in Nevada, they actually know what the letters “ACLU” stand for? Go figure.
They probably think it’s the American Casino Lobbyists Union.
Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit. I never thought I’d see the day...
Everyone loves guns in Nevada.....
Guns are American as apple pie......
Watch the Nevada ACLU’s charter get revoked.
It should be called American Civil Liberties Minus One Union.
This was mostly because of their militant atheism support and their hypocrisy over RKBA.
RKBA is a huge issue for me. They come around on this and I may have to say one or two nice things about them in amongst all the invective I heap on their heads.
Same here. Even if I didn't own any guns RKBA is crucual as it is a bellweather on our freedom. The strength of RKBA determines where we are on the continuum from free individuals to subjects.
So, if more ACLU chapters got behind the 2nd Amendment, you would question the RKBA?
Don’t hold your breath.
I heard soneone on the TV refer to the ACLU as “the legal arm of the Left Wing”.
A tip ‘o the derby to the Nevada ACLU, but I still don’t trust ‘em. That will change if they as a group ever file a lawsuit in favor of “Shall Issue” or some such other pro-gun litigaton. I suspect pigs will be flying in formation on that day.
The ACLU will become a champion of the 2nd Amendment right after it supports public displays of Christianity.
It is rare that the ACLU of Nevada defends a conservative group. I am sure it has happened before, but I can not think of any examples. I am very suspicious about the decision. After reading the article I think I have found the ulterior motive for the ACLU of Nevada actually taking a stand in support of the Constitutional right to bear arms: “Peck said he anticipates Nevadans will come to his group to protect their gun rights.”
So, the ACLU has decided that it is a lost cause fighting against the Second Amendment in Nevada at least, so they are giving in on that issue in the hopes of recruiting members who would not otherwise consider joining them. Makes me think of the national organization that employs Bob Barr in an attempt to “broaden” their outreach. You know, the proverbial camel's nose under the tent....
BTW, I'm not holding my breath on this, but I wouldn't be surprised if a few chapters in other states followed, now the Supreme Court has spoken.
--my political contributing will continue to be to the NRA--period.
re:Nevada has a long, proud tradition of libertarian skepticism of government overreach, Peck said. An individuals right to bear arms, not surprisingly, is in the Nevada constitution.
He says that now - now that the US Supreme Court has spoken, but neither he nor the local ACLU was touting that view before the decision.
Make no mistake. This is not a change of heart for the ACLU. This is a change of strategy.
The ACLU isn’t a monolithic organization. It has the national headquarters plus affiliates roughly equating to one per state (more or less based on population). The affiliates have autonomy and do most of the actual work, which includes which cases to pick and on which side. Some affiliates have done good work in the past, actually fighting for real civil liberties.
Yes, about 2% of the time the ACLU might be on the right side. I have yet to see the Indiana chapter on the right side. The last time I remember them being right on a national issue was in fighting against McCain-Feingold.
And in other news, a gentleman with a big fork and horns has been spotted on the Strip, complaining about the cold and trying to buy a space heater from an appliance store.
“He was a weirdo, that’s for sure”, said a store employee.
“He tried to pay me with souls. And for some reason, he had icicles dangling from his nose and his horns. It must have suddenly frozen in whatever place he came from.”
So what. Barry O’Bama said the Second is an individual right and we know just how truthful he is.
Tomorrow... ACLU Excommunicates Nevada ACLU.
Oh crap! The dam has a leak!
The ACLU is membership based and has maybe 500,000 members nationwide on a very good day. Compare that to the NRA with membership in the millions. I’ve never understood why conservatives and gun owners don’t simply join the ACLU en masse and change the way the ACLU operates. It would be easy to do in red states where the membership is fairly small anyway. Conservatives will never control the ACLU in NY. But they could do so quite easily in other states. Even if actually joining would be beyond the pale, conservatives could always lobby the ACLU with words noting their willingness to join, but not until the ACLU changes it’s position on the Second Amendment.
But I doubt it’ll happen. It seems that it’s better to curse the darkness than light a candle.
Now if we’d just adopt OK’s immigration laws. Then the place would be perfect!
Wonderful PR move, right after HELLER. The ACLU can’t fight it so they agree with it and in a low-population somewhat right-leaning state will champion it.
Support the good guys at the ACLU! Where do I send my check? /SARCASM
The only real news is that this is so late in coming.
These people think in terms of hundred year plans to topple governments. Why wouldn’t a Marxist bunch support a policy that enables gun registration and licensing—for the short term?
There’s a quote that goes something like Of all, the greatest treason is to do the right thing for the wrong reason.
Because it's too obvious. I don't trust the gov't in the first place on general principles and their usual level of competence. The commies are always in last place as far as whom to trust.
All these registration and licensing schemes have to be knocked down anyway because it is a right. Once the gov't has to pay for the adminstration of anything beyond the NICS check because they can't charge fees to exercise a right, you can forget state and local gov't paying for registration and licensing schemes.

I agree with your ulterior motive hypothesis. It’s like when Stalin brought back the old pre-Soviet Russian patriotism, which the Communists had attempted to abolish, in order to instill fighting fervor among the slave population of the Soviet empire to defeat the Germans.
Everyone who is eligible should buy a gun and learn how to use it. That is the clearest message that can possibly be sent to the politicians, judges, and other crooks.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
This after fighting guns fro decades, which makes it obvious it is just a fraud after the SCOTUS ruling. If the ACLU really supported 2nd Amendment they would have filed an amicus brief in favor of overturning the D.C. ban. They did not. Just as they fought the right of the Boy Scouts to keep out homos, which was also upheld by the SCOTUS. The ACLU pays lip service to the Bill of Rights, but in reality is a Marxist front group committed to the establishment of Communism in America.
i can only remember twice in my LIFETIME that i have agreed with the aclu. and i no longer know what those two things were, that’s how long it’s been
Naaaaaaaaa.....it won't be perfect till I'M living there! :)
Don’t hold your breath.
You’d better get a move on. I hear that we are voting soon to put up a fence keeping Californians out.
I’m from WisCONsin, remember??? :)
I happen to merely reside in CA at the moment.
You have been Contaminated though. Your Contamination is the result of you residing in California for how many years now?
I have showered AND washed my hair today. I resent that implication.
MANY years, B4....many. It USED to be an awesome place to live....
Look out your window. See the moving van? That’s me, WAVING AT YOU! WHOO HOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
