Hot-on-the-heels of news that Darren Aronofsky may be directing MGM's Robocop reboot, the studio has announced plans to remake another '80s feature in the shape of Red Dawn.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Red Eye scribe Carl Ellsworth will pen the script, which will update the story to modern day.
"The tone is going to be very intense, very much keeping in mind the post-9/11 world that we're in," explains Ellsworth.
"As Red Dawn scared the heck out of people in 1984, we feel that the world is kind of already filled with a lot of paranoia and unease, so why not scare the hell out of people again?"

The only people Red Dawn scared was the Soviets and the Communists in the Democrat Party who were afraid of a united USA.
Are you being serious?
What you stated sounds very frightening.
Code Pink Dawn.
I can’t see The Postman as a remake of Red Dawn.
It was a very original story with a very interesting premise (the whole “postman” thing).
I know it was looooong (three hours), but I sorta liked it.
Colt carbines on horsback.
The token girl of the resistance will be Paris Hilton in an open-face burka, who smuggles the needed tasers under her voluminous garb.
The enemies will be a weird amalgamation of rural Christians and some Svengali like Wall Street guy who represents "corporate interests".
It will most likely flop.
What you mean like this? No eye protection, no hearing protection, no four million square inches of international orange safety clothing and no Hunters Safety Education course certificate? Just kill the enemy any way you can and steal all his equipment and supplies? How hatful! The enemies self-esteem might be offended.
No ... it'll be an inside job led by the evil Republican regime.
If the US economy doesn't collapse before the end of 2008 will you admit that your “sources” are a bunch of kooks or will you have “access” to new top-secret info that they postponed it?
Think of the time, when the Soviet Army was too rigid and doctrinal for its own good. They were getting their butts kicked by small bands of goat herders in Afghanistan at the time because they couldn't adapt to the tactics.
Wait and see, I guess, but in the Huck Finn movie Jim went free, and in Scarlet Letter Hester and the preacher split the town to set up a love shack somewhere.
I'm growing a long mustache.
LOL! Best one yet!
“Code Pink Dawn”
The ACLU will parachute in and save the day from the evil Right Wing Radio Talk Show hosts invading San Francisco.
Here http://www.rawles.to/patriots.htm would be a better screenplay that they can come up with. It is based on a complete US economic collapse and the ugly aftermath. It is a little like the short lived Jericho series on TV.
And worst of all...NO ORANGE TIP ON THE ASSAULT RIFLE.
“The intent was laudable, but the movie itself sucked. It was horrible.”
You are banished for 1 hour. I am turning my back on you!
Worst. Adaptation. Ever. But I guess we should have assumed it would stink when Demi Moore was cast as Hester Prynne.
I do have to say, though, Gary Oldman as Dimmsdale, hott. Yes, with 2 t's.
Check the links out and ferret out the Australian newspaper report.

AT LEAST, PLEASE READ THE QUOTES OF OUR POLITICAL LEADERS listed from 1900 on at the link above at post#76 on that thread.
Remember in the opening sequence we’re informed that Mexico and Central America have gone commie and invited the Russkies in, along with their Cuban allies so that’s where the invasion is coming from.
NICE! I was a senior in HS when it came out. I loved it. Plus Erin Grey and “the other Girl”! MEOW
Director/screenwriter John Milius reported that he had obtained the help and input of former Secretary of State and NATO commander General Alexander Haig to create the backstory/scenario, which required an invasion of the US by communist countries with minimal use of nuclear weapons on both sides.
The film’s backstory involves several alternate history political precedents. The Green Party came to power in West Germany, forcing the removal of U.S. forces from that nation and all nuclear weapons from Europe. The resulting upheaval left NATO as a political nonentity, with only Britain remaining as a U.S. ally. At the same time, Soviet allies Cuba and Nicaragua each expanded their armies to 500,000 men, subsequently overrunning El Salvador and Honduras. A civil war in Mexico resulted in that country falling behind the Communist “Iron Curtain.” In a parallel to Operation Barbarossa, the Soviet Union, like Nazi Germany, now had a broad base from which to invade its primary enemy, and thousands of troops from satellite nations to augment their own armies.
During this time, the Soviet Union was suffering its worst wheat harvest in 55 years and food riots were occurring throughout the nations of the Warsaw Pact. Apparently desperate for food to feed its people, the Soviet Union and its allies launched a full scale invasion of the United States. Although the movie was released in 1984, the story itself takes place in the near future, starting in 1989 and ending in 1990, because the Holodomor of 1932-1934 is probably[original research?] what is being referred to in the opening narration as the previous “worst wheat harvest” that happened 55 years beforehand.
The Soviets utilize a three-phase attack. First, they use strategic nuclear strikes to destroy key points of communication including several major U.S. cities (Omaha, Kansas City and Washington, D.C. are specifically cited). Strategic nuclear weapons are also used to destroy ICBM bases in Montana and the Dakotas. In addition, it is hinted that Cuban infiltrators aid in confusing U.S. forces by raiding Strategic Air Command bases throughout the Midwest and Texas. Coupled with these nuclear attacks, Soviet transport aircraft containing elite Soviet VDV and Cuban paratroopers slipped through the U.S. radar disguised as commercial airliners.
The second phase saw Cuban and Nicaraguan armies (with small contingents of Soviet forces) pouring across the U.S.-Mexico border into the Great Plains of the United States. The third phase involved a Soviet invasion of Alaska across the Bering Strait from Siberia. They crossed into Canada occupying the Yukon, British Columbia and Western Alberta, most likely including Calgary[original research?], and cut the Alaskan Pipeline, but were decisively stopped at the U.S.-Canadian border by U.S. forces (thus preventing a link-up with Soviet forces occupying the Great Plains).
Elsewhere, Britain remained loyal to its American allies, but suffered heavily for it, Tanner’s remark that the UK will not last long suggests that without support from mainland Europe and the US, the Red Banner Northern Fleet had defeated the Royal Navy and cut off the British Isles.[original research?] China also declared war upon the Soviet Union; the reason for this is unexplained, though there was some long-standing animosity between the two powers resulting from the Sino-Soviet split. Colonel Tanner refers to there being some “600 million screaming Chinamen” on the American side. When asked “I thought there were a billion screaming Chinamen?”, he cryptically replies “There were” and throws his drink in the fire, causing it to flare and suggesting China had suffered Soviet nuclear strikes. In the film, the effects of the nuclear weapons are not shown because the location (northern Colorado) is far from any bombed sites.
Someone must notify the World Court immediately.
And get that environmental impact study started TODAY!
Code Pink Dawn.
That is great!
Jennifer Grey and Leah Thompson
LOL - sorry!
The 4th ever secret meeting of the House of Reps was reported in the spring.
All kinds of things can alter the Puppet Masters plans between Spring and Dec 2008 in a complex fast changing world.
My sources are whatever they are—everything from very flaky to very solid.
AS my boss, the world’s best expert on the topic noted in my BA program library job . . . it was the very flakiest most fringe groups who MOST ACCURATELY and EARLIEST identified who Hitler was; what he would become and what he would do.
Ignore the early warning system if you wish. Your life. Your family.
I’m just a watchman. It’s my duty to warn. I am not good at making mules drink.
Red Dawn has (had?), the distinction of having the most movie deaths of any film at the time. hoora.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE INFORM YOURSELVES!
It’s shocking how CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN FREEPERS who ought to be amongst the MOST informed are so many still so clueless.
Actually, The Chicoms will be coming through Mexico as well as the West Coast IIRC this time.
The Amish are coming.....
The Amish are coming.....
A handful of unarmed Polish Jews couldn't hold off the Nazi Army either, eh?
Sorry Erin Grey was on Buck Rogers!
Jennifer and Leah (before she got so skinny)
Yes, with a brigade from Londonstan.
LOL! A fellow I was working with at the time walked into work the morning after taking his kids to see Predator when it first came out in the theatre.
I asked him how the movie was and is it worthwhile going to see.
He said it sucked because who could possibly believe that anybody (let alone an airborne helicopter) can survive a nuclear blast such as the one that the monster crab-faced space alien guy set off at the end of the movie.... Sheesh.
I thrilled to the David Brin novel “The Postman.”
But in the book, the head villain “The General” and his inner circle are genetically-engineered former super-warriors capable of feats that human flesh and bone could not possibly sustain. He’s also a sadistic psycho who castrates all the slaves in his domain. He’s finally done in by an even more advanced model who rules a neighboring palatine who our hero manages to persuade to join the fight. The Kevin Costner movie was actually less goofy in that respect.
I did love those cool sweaters.
Course, the remake will probably give the Mohammedans new ideas...
You believe Red Dawn was plausible? No offense, but LOL.
Fortunately, we on this forum have you to render us cluefull about the alien overlords who control the secret world government under which we all will live in the near future that never seems to get here.
What steps should we be taking right now to overthrow the alien demon gods in charge, or should we just sit back and wait for Jesus to unleash holy hell on their bad alien asses?
He is going to come and help, isn't he?
For the record, I liked Red Dawn and Predator, doesn’t mean I believe that stuff could happen.
Loved LOTR too, doesn’t mean I believe in Hobbits. :-)
"On the 13th day of March 2008, a rare "closed door" session was held by the United States House of Representatives. It was only the fourth time in the history of the United States that the House of Representatives closed the doors and met in absolute secrecy. Thus, those who were elected to represent the people of the United States would not allow the people to know what they were meeting about. Furthermore, House Rule XVII, clause 9, forbids the Representatives from revealing what was discussed. The penalty for leaking such information includes loss of seniority, fine, reprimand, censure, or expulsion!"
Helloooooo! The government is collapsing, why are you worried about losing seniority, being fined, reprimanded, censured or expelled?!
I still love Red Dawn and I watch it with my kids. Try this: Show Red Dawn to a bunch of 18-20 year olds and watch their faces light up.
I suspect this remake may turn out to be a good old fashion right wing flick. And it’s about time!
(Remember the red v. blue color scheme on the election maps)
“Theyd better hurry or Martial Law officials will not allow its showing.”
Instead of the Russians and Cubans it will be Homeland Security and the BATFE invading a small Colorado town and throwing the residents into camps.
The orange ones with the large turtlenecks?
The movie was wise to tone down the sci-fi aspect.
He’s not going to come and
He’s returning as UTTER AND ULTIMATE CONQUERING KING.
THE KING IS COMING.
LONG LIVE THE RETURN OF THE KING.
However, . . . after 1/3 to 2/3 of the earth’s population has been killed in natural disasters and wars.
Interesting that the puppet masters plan to reduce the world population to 200 million.
I guess you haven’t checked out the Georgia Guidestones, either?
Fine. I won’t bother to look up the link for you.
ATS has a motto:
Sometimes, it seems like too many hereon have a motto of
If it hollywierd the Americans will be the bad guys and the Muslim cultists will be doing the defending.
All good guesses about the “bad guys”
BUT the good guys will appear as “normal” middle-America types who don’t favor such “extreme” right wing things such as free markets, protecting marriage or ending abortion.
The left has learned how to pretend to be Americans for the purpose of misleading Americans.
What steps to take?
WALK CLOSE TO GOD. Encourage others to do so.
The Biblical prophecies will be fulfilled regardless.
