South Carolinas top tourism agency has canceled an overseas advertising campaign targeting gay tourists.
The campaign, tied to gay pride week celebrations in London, included ads that proclaimed South Carolina is so gay. A handful of other U.S. destinations joined the campaign, including Atlanta, Boston and New Orleans.
After learning last week the state had agreed to spend tax money on the campaign and spurred by a post on The Palmetto Scoop blog the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism said Thursday it would not pay the tour operator.
Parks, Recreation and Tourism director Chad Prosser said an agency advertising manager signed off on the contract, proposed by the agencys London advertising contractor.
The agency will not pay the roughly $4,942 fee to take part in the campaign.
Employees exercised extremely poor judgment in approving participation in the program, Prosser said. PRT, he said, will require more review of future overseas advertising, as it does with domestic advertising.

That’s what we need, Even more beautiful beach towns invaded and completely taken over by gays. Sheesh.
South Carolina attracting gay tourists... is this for real?!
South Carolina must have changed since I lived there.
Yes, lovely idea. Let’s import a few more.
I guess I’ll never understand this kind of thing. Why would there be ad campaigns targeted at homosexuals or any specific group or sub-culture in the first place?
I’m sure the response of some might be that various tourist resorts advertise as being family friendly. But in general, doesn’t advertising and marketing of a tourist resort just target anybody who is interested in the beach, the mountains, skiing, or whatever the attractions of the place are?
Well, doesn’t South Carolina have a girlie-man Senator? What his/her name? Graham, I think?
Hey look, their college mascot is a Gamecock....just sayin....
Wonder if they’ll be “cavorting” on SC’s beaches like they do up in MA.
Just what we need more of in the US, more perverts!
I don’t have a problem with private companies advertising as they wish. It’s not taxpayer money.
But this IS taxpayer money. Let’s keep the tourism campaigns “ecumenical” as to controversial issues, shall we? Jeeze. (The libertarian in me wonders why states even HAVE tourism departments. Don’t other states do just fine without them — leaving the tourism-mongering to PRIVATE conglomerates of hotels and such??)
But it sounded to me like this gal in a minnie skirt was singing about having "kissed a girl" and how much she "liked it" and like that!
Now tell me... Did I hear that right and is that some kind of pop tune that's made the bigtime right now???
Myrtle Beach, SC, had the “Offshore Drilling” gay bar.
Wonder if they’ll be “cavorting” on SC’s beaches like they do up in MA? That ought to get the locals pissed off..........
Like Gayhobeth Delaware?
South Carolina Ping Please welcome our newest South Carolina ping list member, RetSignman.
Oh great. As the faggot flats area of midtown was not flamboyant enough.
You mean Pandsey Grahamnesty?
You mean McCain’s numero uno butt boy?
“Girlie-man” is a start on an appropriate description.
Wasn’t John “I Feel Pretty” Edwards born in SC?
(I guess Ill never understand this kind of thing. Why would there be ad campaigns targeted at homosexuals or any specific group or sub-culture in the first place?)
That’s what liberals and socialists do. Spread the agemda in any manner they can.
This is just disgusting!
I don’t know, pop music hurts my ears.
Easy! Im a South Carolina grad!!!!!!
gamecock
noun
1. a cock bred and trained for fighting
2. someone who is a very fierce fighter [syn: hell-kite]
It is actually a reference to Thomas “The Gamecock” Sumter, a Revolutionary War hero from SC.

My high school mascot was a Maverick by the way :-)
This brings new meaning to Hilton Head.
You heard correctly. It’s some chick named Katy Perry I believe.
My college mascot was a Bear...man...OK, I’m gonna stop....
The new SC state motto: Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabulouth!
Thank you for confirming my suspicions. It's hard to believe!!!
Mine was a Zebra, so I’m restricted by man-law from making fun of anyone else’s mascot.
As far as you know... Has there been any discussion of this brazen homosexual promoting activity being broadcast on our public airwaves during primetime that you know of?
what has happened to one of my favorite places and people??

Targeted marketing works very well. You try to find sub-groups that will be interested in your product or service. For example, you won't market high-end financial services in the ghetto, but will try to get target the membership list of the AMA or whatever.
I guess the idea is that homosexuals tend to be financially well-off, so they can be an attractive market segment.
During the 90’s there was a song about girl on girl kissing. It’s like they want to make sure they have one song for each 10 year period. In Europe there’s even an openly gay “Boy Band” ...even though they all look like middle aged men.
Bear Force One.

Darling..you are not missing much..it’s a jungle out there!! LOL.
“The Gamnecock”. Such a “sissy” mascot you’d have thought that the Indian War and Revolutionary War Hero, Thomas Sumter, would have objected to having been dubbed the Carolina Gamecock.
Thanks again TrishaSC...

Imagine that.
Yup. the song's a big hit. It doesn't hurt that the singer is quite cute.
Has this ever happened before?
There have been some minor pop hits about this before, but not as big as this. But lesbian experimentation seems to be pretty big these days, especially among the young'uns (I say this at the ripe old age of 32. Damn kids! Get off my lawn. Grumble grumble)
Well, there is Hilton HEAD and the GRAND STRAND and Whorey County, and Sixty-nine (or is it ninety-six?) S.C.
Are you being sarcastic ...lol..? I know some freepers don’t really keep up with some of the network stuff that’s why I’m asking. To answer your question, it’s all over the place. I don’t watch too many shows but it does seem to be pretty prevalent. You know how shows would have the nosy neighbor during the 60’s and 70’s. Well that character has been replaced with the flamboyant gay confidante. Dr. Who even has a gay agenda.
I’m also thinking with the weakness of the dollar and gas prices there’s been a drop in large heterosexual families taking vacations and they want to make up the difference by catering to another segment. I heard a report a few years ago that said that gays have a lot of disposal income and they don’t mind spending it.
No way!!!!! I don’t consider them Boy band material....hehehe. They could actually play instuments and write songs. But I most say that Roger Taylor looked pretty hot as a school girl in the “I wanna be free” video from the 80’s.
Calhoun was gay? I bet you that’s fighting words to some people. ;-)
“So we have some popular song extolling the virtue of lesbian experimentation amongst our young women?”
Her name is Katy Perry. She’s a Christian gospel artist (or at least was). I think her early work is under the last name Hudson.
Read that as: They got more money than sense.
There was another song about ten years ago called "I Kissed A Girl" by Jill Sobule, that got some airplay on MTV.
