Energy Expert: Poverty Stricken Don't 'Give a Damn' About Warming

According to one energy security expert, unless prosperity exists people simply will not care about climate change. Gal Luft, executive director of the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security, said on July 11 that the poor have other priorities than global warming.

“They [poor people] could not give a damn about climate change because they want 24 hours a day light,” said Luft who cited the example of people living in slums outside Bangalore, India.

“In India alone, 600 million people are not connected even to the [power] grid,” said Luft, “When you talk to these people all you have to do is drive 10 minutes from the center of Bangalore to the slums there and ask them about climate change. And they’ll tell you: ‘We want electricity, we want it today, we want it cheap, we don’t care how you make it.’”

Exactly! People in the Third World don't have access to many of the amenities that we have that makes our lives easier to manage. That's why the lifespan there is short because people are forced to work hard just to stay alive and to keep their families alive. That's a reality that gets lost on affluent Western liberals who think the environment should be the planet's top concern now. For most of the world's people, its the economy, jobs and standard of living. Global warming for them isn't a priority.

About the only people who DO “give a damn” are those who make a living off of Algore’s “global warming” hoax by working in the Big “Green” industry.

Katie Couric once lamented that global warming was becoming a liberal or elitist issue, and was sad about that. She said the fate of the planet affects us all, yadda, yadda, yadda, and it’s too bad it’s become just another political issue.

Al Gore says it’s a “moral issue”. My question to Al Gore is, how can you impose morality on us?

On issues such as marriage and abortion, we’re told that you can’t legislate morality, and that we shouldn’t be imposing a moral standard on people. But Al Gore wants to impose what he calls a moral issue on all of us.

Why are liberals allowed to call something a moral issue and get away with it, but conservatives are told that we can’t be talking about the issues in moral terms?

About how it always works.

Worry about ‘climate change’ is a product of a wealthy society.

All the while, Al Gore and the very rich worry endlessly about global warming as they use 20 times the average amount of electricity in just one of their many homes and dump tons of CO2 in the air with their private jets and limos.

I’m doing ok. I’m not rich but I’m not poor...and I don’t care either. If it gets cold I’ll put on a jacket. If it’s warm I’ll wear shorts. It water starts to rise...I’ll build higher........

They don’t care about gas prices, either. When they get bored or don’t feel like cooking, they drive.

You just don’t get it.

Global Warming is a moral issue. Abortion is a “moral” issue.

That's a good question. The left calls us "wingnuts" anytime we bring up moral issues but they always get a pass.

I'm just glad that civilization has evolved enough that, when spooky people have a problem with the weather, they've come to the conclusion that selling "carbon credits" is a better (and a lot more profitable) method to appease the weather gods than the old method of performing human sacrifices.

Luft warned people gathered for a Washington, D.C. conference hosted by the left-wing Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) that the movement risks losing a huge constituency if the oil problem isn’t solved.

OMG, this conference is put on by these freaking retarded moon bats Science in the Public Interest

CSPI is a pro-regulation group that often attacks businesses over food issues.

Popcorn, Mexican food, Trans fat, Dove Ice Cream, Cheesecake, etc.

The organization was putting on its fourth national Integrity in Science Conference co-sponsored by a number of liberal organizations and publications including Mother Jones, the Union of Concerned Scientists, Earthjustice and the Center for Progressive Reform.

Putting the words "Integrity in Science" in the same sentence as these clowns should be a crime

Oh, global warming IS a religion. Or more precisely, "environmentalism" is a religion. The best kind, the only kind a really true lefty accepts -- because he himself is his own god. And the reason it's okay to introduce the M word (morality) about it, is because it involves YOUR money, not THEIR sex. Anything with a deviant sexual component --- homosexuality, infidelity, abortion --- well, now, that's off limits for discussion.

Common sense isn’t so common.

And I’ve always noted that the people who wail the most about GW are the rich, who apparently have too much free time since they don’t have to work a thirty-hour week for a living.

WHY WOULD I CARE ABOUT SOMETHING THAT DOES NOT EXIST?

Global Warming is something that makes people with too much time on their hands feel self important.

Somehow, they think they can make a difference, when in reality they are powerless to change their circumstance. Good intentions are the opiate they crave, but they spend their time trying to administer their Global Warming drug on others, hoping for some sort of redemption to alleviate their insignificance.

After all his message is SO important...
