Getting an apartment in New York City can be an expensive affair unless the renter is a Congressman apparently. Charles Rangel (D-NY) has four rent-controlled apartments in one building in Harlem, even though rent control should only apply to a primary residence. Rangel uses one of the rent-controlled apartments as a campaign office, which calls into question whether he has broken gift-acceptance and electoral regulations:
While aggressive evictions are reducing the number of rent-stabilized apartments in New York, Representative Charles B. Rangel is enjoying four of them, including three adjacent units on the 16th floor overlooking Upper Manhattan in a building owned by one of New Yorks premier real estate developers.
Mr. Rangel, the powerful Democrat who is chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, uses his fourth apartment, six floors below, as a campaign office, despite state and city regulations that require rent-stabilized apartments to be used as a primary residence.
Mr. Rangel, who has a net worth of $566,000 to $1.2 million, according to Congressional disclosure records, paid a total rent of $3,894 monthly in 2007 for the four apartments at Lenox Terrace, a 1,700-unit luxury development of six towers, with doormen, that is described in real estate publications as Harlems most prestigious address.

Rules don't apply to Democrats on powerful committees.
Rules are for the little people and Republicans
Maybe it’s part of the old gravel-gargler’s repa-marations?
Wonder if the Congressman can recommend any particular CPA on this one???
Where are the IRS and Ethics Committee bloodhounds....

"Democrats are all above the law, suckers."
Would it really make any difference if he broke any rules, laws, etc.?
After all, he IS a king of entitlement.
You beat me to it. I was just going to say that Rangel is a good Democrat, and good Democrats with liberal intentions don’t have to follow the law. Because their hearts are in the right place, so to speak, they are exempted from any criticism or legal action.
An evil Republican doing the same thing will be crucified.
I hate to think ill of people if it’s something he can’t help, but it always sounds to me like Rangel has to cough or clear his throat. Something is odd about his voice.
I thought you lying RATS were "going to clean up the culture of corruption" in the government??? I guess you weren't counting cleaning up your own backyard first, huh? You criminals should ALL go to jail.
Well, well, well, looks like the Culture of Corruption isn’t a Republican thing.
I believe Bubba got a good deal, too.
you racist, he’s entitled to those apartments.

Not me. Nobody spends that much powerful time in Congress to skim only $1.2 million.
Is this better or worse than Obama’s better than average home loan?
I believe that, just like Al Sharpton, Rangel has all sorts of ways to hide assets and live off the fat of the land. I’ll bet that Rangel lives far far better than all but the wealthiest Americans.
Time to prosecute this fraud.
It loses its sting if the corruption involves donkeys.
I know New York City has changed a lot in the last 10-15 years, but living at "Harlem's most prestigious address" is still sort of like owning the best home in Zimbabwe.
Stabin-cabins.
Which one’s the Rat King?
I believe that number is the amount to be found in US banks and US stock brokers. Not the amount he has world-wide -think Andorra and Switzerland, etc.
three attached apartments??? three kitchens... poor rengel doesn’t know where his next meal is coming from so let’s give him a break shall we...
