In case you're wondering what eternal purposes bishop's conferences serve, you may (or may not) be reassured to know that they are in the thick of the fight against global warming.
At least that is what one can conclude from the joint letter that the presidents of the Bishops conferences in the G8 countries on June 20th sent to President George Bush and the heads of state of Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Canada, and Russia.
The letter urges the leaders, who met in Hokkaido, Japan, last week, to address the issue of climate change.
"We pray that your meeting will be blessed by a spirit of collaboration that enables you to advance the global common good by taking concrete measures to reduce poverty and address climate change," read the letter. The busy prelates who signed the letter, of course, did so at the urging of the same Bishops conference staff who drafted it.
These staff members apparently believe that "global warming" is, as the letter says, "of critical importance to human life and dignity."1
Now I believe that, while there are a number of issues of critical importance to human life and dignity, global warming is not one of them.

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Leftists infiltrated the Catholic Church in the first half of the 20th-century. Liberation Theology, the radicalization of the Jesuits, many elements of Vatican II, and a secularization of seminaries are just some of the results. The Catholic church has had to fight heresies in every age of its existence (often times within the Church itself). It is easy to get depressed, but then I always remember the promise that Jesus made to Peter about the Church: “...the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.”
The bishops should also reread the First Commandment as the global warming cultists worship the false god of the earth.
Is there any way to determine which bishops signed this ridiculous letter?
Was it voted on by the USCCB or issued by some small group of bishops?
I’d like to determine whether my own bishop, who has so far been unremarkable but seemingly orthodox, signed on to this nonsense.
I’d also like to see the signees agree to turn off air conditioning in their homes and pledge to only use public transit as part of their commitment to combat global warming.
Unfortunately they've been there for decades.
The American bishops are the worst and makes one think there should be term limits for them as well as the 535 idiots with which we continue to contend in our Congress.
Leftist and pedopiles apparently dominate the church leadership. On the other hand their total numbers may not be that large because many are in both categories.
A bishopric ain’t what it used to be; you can’t make a buck thataway!
The purpose of a Bishop is to be a pastor to the pastors. Not doing their job, no wonder many churches are so screwed up. Nowadays they are more like Chief Inquisitors dedicated to fleecing the flock.
Pope Pius IX was right when he spoke of the “Americanism” heresy.
Well, they DO have a point, IF their comments are based on the notion that the governments not waste money on carbon credits, and forced reductions of carbon emissions, which would cripple many economies. These would be the results of those countries fighting Global Warming, when Global Cooling would actually be more dangerous for the poor of the world, because that would more directly affect food crops, and how folks would keep themselves warm in cooler latitudes.
Somehow, though, considering the libs on the Bishops' Conference staffs, I don't think that's what this means.
