Drilling for votes

Whether effective or not, the energy proposals coming out of Congress have caught fire on the campaign trail.

That's why former Republican Gov. Jim Gilmore, a candidate for U.S. Senate, has been visiting gas stations around Virginia collecting anecdotes from consumers struggling with soaring energy costs.

Gilmore, who rode into the governor's mansion on a "no car tax" slogan, has a new one for his Senate race: "Drill here. Drill now. Cut gas prices."

"I believe drilling for oil now is critical," Gilmore said. "I think that will drop prices immediately. International oil markets are very sensitive."

His opponent, former Democratic Gov. Mark R. Warner, begs to differ.

While open to drilling, Warner said there is no reason to think long-range plans for increased drilling offshore would bring prices down soon.

"There's no serious policymaker or economist who predicts that," Warner said. "I know it's political season, but some of this is basic math."

Jim Gilmore ushered in the largest tax decrease in Virginia history and left office with a billion dollar surplus that was later squandered by Mark Warner who also raised taxes breaking his campaign promises not to. Warner also fought the state Marriage Amendment defining marriage as being only between a man and a woman. It seems that Warner is the one who needs to study basic math as well as some basic biology.

But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., told reporters Thursday that the focus on offshore drilling was "a hoax" that ignores the failure of oil companies to drill in areas already under lease.

You really have to wonder now long the Dims can cling to the position that it doesn't matter if there is oil under the land you choose to drill on. Apparently, if it's under lease, there must be oil there or they wouldn't have leased it, according to these experts like Pelosi. The possibility that they leased it, explored it, and decided nothing worth going after was there, completely escapes them.

You also have to wonder how long spineless Republicans will let them get away with it before pointing out the obvious absurdity in language the average Gomer can understand.

Jim Gilmore faces an uphill fight against the hugely popular Mark Warner. But he's found an issue and he's willing to go all the way with it.

What mystifies me is why not allow drilling anyhow? And building new refineries, coal plants, nuke plants...

What a bunch of fools.

Republicans say the answer lies mostly in increasing domestic oil production — both offshore and in Alaska's National Wildlife Refuge.

That's interesting considering McCain is against drilling in ANWR for the same reason as the socialist Democrats and Lamar Alexander during an online interview yesterday (7/11/08) at a blog "Find More, Use Less" [Sen. Lamar Alexander on Oil] left out drilling in ANWR when commenting on oil exploration.

OPEC immediately lowered their prices as soon as Reagan got rid of Jimmah's price controls and windfall taxes, and began pushing for more production. The prices fell INSTANTANEOUSLY. The Democrats know this, they are afraid of this, that is why you are hearing some Democrats tepidly pushing for drilling too.

The GOP really needs to seize this issue.

I don’t think Mark Warner is hugely popular but he is not unpopular but a lot of that is because of individuals like Chichester who were traitorous allies with Warner when he lied in order to raise taxes and suspend the implementation of the car tax phase out. The Virginia Republican party is having a resurgence of conservatism with those like attorney general Bob McDonnell. The problem is that Democrats and the state media has been very good at explaining away the overt liberalism of Democrats like Warner (who lost against John Warner) and Tim Kaine. I’ll be surprised if Gilmore doesn’t show a bump in the polls next go around.

It's increasingly likely socialists would know since they are becoming if not already have become the majority in the GOP.

Yes they do know this. The reason speculators are buying up so much oil is because they see a future where less energy options will be available especially under a Democrat control House, Senate, and Presidency. If people want to see even higher gas prices, no new refineries, no new nuclear, no new drilling then they should vote Democrat. John McCain needs to change his opposition to drilling in ANWR. Alaskans want to drill there he should be a federalist like he claims he is and open the door for it.

People need to tell Pelosi they don’t care what she thinks. Even if we drill and gas prices don’t go down for awhile.........at least we won’t be importing 70% of our oil when we have our own. Let the middle east sell their oil to anyone they want. We should also pull all of our oil people out of there and let them figure things out for themselves.

The oil royalties from Alaska’s fields equals to twice the entire state tax revenues. The GOP needs to tell voters that states are sitting on huge revenues sources that can alleviate budget and tax problems. NJ has an annual budget shortfall of 5 billion, yet her Senators and governor opposes drilling 500 miles offshore. But the governor is willing to think of every concievable way to raise fees and tax the state citizens.

Contact Congress
Drill Here Drill Now

Congress solutions to the energy crisis facing us:

1.) Drill on already leased land (if it were economically feasable or sufficient supply, I’m sure the oil companies would be doing this already)
2.) Windfall profits tax (hmmm, who do you think will end up paying for this? and how will this lower oil prices?)
3.) Opening up the federal oil reserve (great idea - and then what do we do once Imanutjob starts the bombing and we have no oil; sounds like a safe plan for America)
4.) Alternative energy (well we have seen what ethanol has done to food prices and now we can all sit around waiting for the next great alternative fuel while the price of gas continues to sky rocket)
5.) Blame it on the republicans and President Bush (energy problem doesnt feel like a “hoax” when I’m paying $60.00 to fill my tank or 30% more at the grocery store)

The sooner we become more energy independent, the better!
Caught a story on the business channel earlier in the week where some “expert” said oil from the outer continental shelf would take 1 - 6 years to extract since we already had the infrastrutue set up in the gulf (ONE YEAR!).
What are we waiting for??

DRILL HERE - DRILL NOW!!!
