President Bush was Right, As Evidenced by This Month’s Sale of Saddam’s Uranium and More
Canada Free Press ^ | 07/12/2008 | Yomin Postelnik

If anyone doubts the need to have ousted Saddam, a news release in the past few days should put such doubts to rest. The report is that the US has sold 550 tons of yellowcake uranium that had been found in Iraq to Cameco, a Canadian company. The uranium will now be used as fuel and poses no severe risk if properly stored and sealed.

While the report contains no new information per se, it brings to the forefront pertinent facts that, while widely available, were also widely ignored. But when analyzing military and security matters, we can ill afford to ignore any factual information.

This was covered in another thread, but I will repeat it here. This uranium was known about and monitored by the UN weapons inspectors. This is not part of some “secret stash” that Sadam was secretly refining into a dirty bomb.

If you run off and claim this is evidence that Saddam had hiddden WMDs, the libtards will cut you to shreds and you will make us all look like fools.

“They also like to chant the story line that “there were no WMD in Iraq” and even that “Saddam posed no threat.”

It’s a tragedy that Bush is so incompetent at letting the world know that he is doing the right things. Does he not want approval? Is he contemptuous of public opinion? If he had Reagan’s gift for communicating, he’d have 65% approval ratings.

Excellent article, you nailed it. Do you have a link anymore information on the cauldrons? I knew that he had hidden parts and plans for centrifuges but was unaware of this.

Right, as far as it goes. The uranium was tagged, but not removed. It was still there for the day he decided to use it.

You'll remember that IAEA monitored North Korea's nuclear weapons program for 10 years with inspectors and video-cams while two miles down the road it continued right along. They confirmed that NK's weapons program had been discontinued "here". They didn't go looking for it "there", where it was.

Like the joke about the man looking for his car keys under the street lamp. Did you lose your keys here? No, lost them over there. So why are you looking here? Because the lights better here.

And you'll remember that, while the press claimed that Niger couldn't sell uranium under the table due to IAEA monitoring, the fact was that IAEA themselves admitted they weren't monitoring it at all.

Libya had two stashes of uranium. One they obtained years ago secretly from Niger and later admitted to. And another similar amount they smuggled in later, but didn't tell anyone about. From Niger.

But you're right. This is 500 tons of the stuff that everyone knew about which makes it inert. Somehow.

The issue is clear. With regard to WMD, he had sarin and VX. A key part of the argument laid out in the column is that he didn’t need nukes to be a threat, as evidenced by his other cavalier moves against the US that he took knowing full well of the risk of reprisal. That dangerous mentality is what made leaving gas weapons in his hands a huge threat in and of itself.

But the main point with regard to the uranium is that all that was needed to switch it back, to, in essence, reverse the isotopic dilution, was the acquisition of centrifuges or even the use of more primitive methods, which he had already used. That’s almost as bad as saying he didn’t have a bomb because he still needed to build a switch.
Libs can try to tear that to shreds, but they’d just show how wrong they are.

I told a few Bush haters at work about this...their answer was that it was planted by the US government...sooo the liberals aren’t believing this at all.

He says he forgives you, as he had the same problem when he nicknamed one very persistent and irritating flee “Mr. Wilson” a while back. He’s still having trouble getting rid of “Wesley Clark,” though.

I’d mention to them that the pile was well known to all since 1991. All the coalition could do was get the Russians to dilute it and then hope that Saddam didn’t get centrifuges. Just looking at the UN weapons reports of what he had vs what he destroyed are telling, and that was all before Bush. We can’t expect liberals to be responsive to logic, but it may stun them for a second.

There is not logically way to talk to the liberals that I know, they are all blinded by hatred towards Bush and Republicans in general. If there was ever a more damning sign that evil is among us, it would be the fanning of the flames of hatred by the left.

It’s a tragedy that Bush is so incompetent at letting the world know that he is doing the right things.
:::::::
His will to fight and communicate have been one of the biggest problems we have lived with for the last eight years. We would probably have a RESPECTABLE, CONSERVATIVE, FIGHTING presidential candidate right now if Bush had provided the outspoken conservative LEADERSHIP that is incumbent upon the Repub President and party leader (implied only in this case). Too bad we lost that when Reagan passed on.

We are in for some hard times. I guess that is what it is going to take to get America’s head out of its butt and start worrying AGAIN about America and THEIR freedoms.

Agreed. But we need to reach out to the sane, misguided people and hopefully make a dent in the insanity of some others. See also http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1990537/posts
