Nouri al-Maliki ready to oust US from Iraq green zone

The green zone of Baghdad, a highly fortified slice of American suburbia on the banks of the Tigris river, may soon be handed over to Iraqi control if the increasingly assertive government of Nouri al-Maliki, the prime minister, gets its way.

A senior Iraqi government official said this weekend the enclave should revert to Iraqi control by the end of the year. “We think that by the end of 2008 all the zones in Baghdad should be integrated into the city,” said Ali Dabbagh, the government’s spokesman.

PS: They are apoplectic about the fact that Bush’s Iraq strategy is becoming a resounding success (as supported by FACTS in Iraq).

You are correct. They are trying to make a victory look like defeat.

Nowhere in the article does the word “oust” appear, only in the headline.

The closest statement is “The call for the “liberation” of the zone reflects Maliki’s growing confidence after military victories that have prompted him to declare that terrorism has been defeated...”

The article seems to be about how well things in Iraq are going. Silly media.

All of this is a MSM plan to make Osamaobamas pullout look correct.

Unfornately no one in the Republican Party has had the guts to ask why the Dems are afraid of a free and open Iraq. I have a feeling the Dems are afraid the question in my tagline would finally be answered.

Exactly, EggsAckley! The article is not that slanted. It's the headline editor who needs a whack.

By the way, al-Maliki is getting real bushy-tailed now that our forces got that hellhole under control. It's high time we started billing him for liberating his country; for starters we'll accept 25% of Iraq's oil production.

“Oust”?
More nonsense from the foaming-at-the-mouth Hate-America Left.

You are so right. Instead of rejoicing that Maliki’s government has come so far in being able to defend itself against terrorists, the MSM resorts to the language of defeat.

I have made a resolution in the past week. Every time the subject of Iraq comes up in a conversation, I am going to make a happy observation about how we are on the verge of a total victory in Iraq and in the establishment of a democracy in the ME!! I figure the more we conservatives repeat this statement to many, many citizens, the more it will sink in how great the US military is and that GWB is not a nincompoop afterall.

I am sick and tired of listening to the whining of the Democrats and all their liberal allies in academia, the news media, and Hollywood. The average Joe Citizen cannot cut through all the negative rhetoric they are bombarded with everyday. We all need to do our part in diseminating more positive information on Iraq.

Who knows what will happen. Muzzies seem to gravitate to their own blighted kind almost every time. I'm sure they're eager to return to their true nature and stop this pretense about democracy.

In Dec the IA started forming the Presidential Brigade.
A five battalion mix of Armor, Motorized, and Light Infantry.
Its job is to protect key government instilations in central Baghdad, replacing the contracted security.

They are discussing the transfer of security from those contractors to the IA Presidential Brigade, An event due to happen as part of Baghdad going PIC anyway. The April Senate testimony had Baghdad as planned PIC by January...
