Former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said Saturday he's not formally being vetted for the No. 2 spot on John McCain's presidential ticket.
The former Arkansas governor, whose insurgent candidacy won the hearts of social conservatives and shook up the Republican presidential primary race, told Radio Iowa the McCain campaign has yet to ask him for any information pertaining to its VP vetting process.
"If you're asking me have I had an official contact from the McCain campaign, no I have not. In all candor, no," he told the radio station. "No one has said, 'Hey, I need your tax form.'

This is hardly shocking.
I think that sentence should have read, "...whose insurgent candidacy won the hearts of just enough social conservatives to thwart Mitt Romney from smoking McCain in the primaries, thus giving the GOP a nominee who throws conservative economists under the bus, buys into the global warming scam, supports amnesty for illegals, thinks water-boarding is beneath Bin Laden, and won't support domestic drilling.
Take that Romney lackeys!!
“Take that Romney lackeys!!”
No, you take that. Feast on McCain, dearest.
Thank God!
Woo Hoo! Hyuck-hyuck-hyuck-a-bee!
Goofy.
You've hit the nail on the head. I've been saying the same thing for 6 months.
Thank you "Social Conservatives", "Values Voters", and you whackos from the Single-Issue Monomaniacal Anti-Abortion Party. You have given us the worst GOP candidate in decades, even worse than Bob Dole who was merely a bumbler.
If there was a way to excommunicate you from the GOP and to expose your hypocritical and false "conservative" credentials I would enthusiastically do so.
You are collectively worse than all the RINOs put together.
>>>>Take that Romney lackeys!!<<<<<
The illness runs deep among the Religionists.
The Huckster has a new gig on Fox News. Best news all day that he won’t be VP.
Alas for your side, the folks you are speaking of are about 98% of the Republican party. As they say in the old country “RINOs ain’t sh|+”.
Don’t say you weren’t warned, RINO.
As a lifelong conservative, at this point McRINO can put Pee Wee Herman on the ticket. For the first time in my life, I may vote “none of the above.” McRINO is pathetic at best and if we lose, well let’s just say “the chickennnnsssss are comin’ home to roost.” The Great OZ has spoken.
“98% of the Republican party”, but they couldn’t nominate a candidate.
On a lighter note, the Huckster from Arkansas is no conservative. I admire him for losing all that weight, maybe he can team up with that “chubby boy” on the Subway commercials.........
If parties are to mean anything we have to quickly get a grip on the primary process and return it to what it was meant to be.
I love it when compromisers blame the results of their own compromises on those who refuse to compromise fundamental principles. It’s quite the spectacle. Happens every time.
Romney would have made mincemeat out of “The Messiah”. But McCain will be awful lucky if he scrapes by in this one.
Replace “Mitt Romney” with “Fred Thompson”, and I agree with you completely :) In any case, it is crazy how we ended up with McCain.
Maybe the huckster can start his own country with his merry band of cultist? How about Hucksterville, Guyana?
Have you considered a career in the news? You’d make a fine reporter...
We've got to get a handle on this and ban people from voting in Republican primaries who are not Republicans.
Strange - I’m a social conservative and I loath Huckabee, largely for social reasons.
We had candidates who combined social, fiscal and international conservatism, but they never broke 2% in the polls. The folks with name recognition and money were all no better than ‘2 outta 3’ candidates - and they managed to get the McCain the nomination.
But...but...but...if you have closed primaries, it isn’t fair for independents! Just because they aren’t members of a party doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be able to determine the nominees!
Screw the Independents.
That’s odd. I thought Operation Chaos was in effect and republicans were voting in the dem primary.
Or, you don't like the fact that he doesn't think highly of baby killing?
Or, he's a Baptist?
Please let down your hair and tell us what kind of agony The Huck puts you through with which of his many "social positions"?
You do recall don't you that she had Virginia locked up tight. Wasn't even going to campaign there. Was she ever surprised!
You know BC, it takes some advanced skills and talent to manage to get your own initial comment nuked by the mods when you post the thread! LOL
Freepmail me, I want to know what you said, was it anything, ANYTHING at all about golden underwear? ;)
I’m happy McCain is smart enough not to pick this socialist preacher.
OK freepers, who is your pick?
I think Mitt might be good, Hucky nope.
Give me your thoughts.
Amnesty for illegals and convicted criminals in the name of Jesus.
Welfare for Jesus.
Higher taxes for Jesus.
Anti-private business for Jesus.
Health care for Jesus.
Nanny state for Jesus.
A social conservative cares about more than just abortion.
BTW brainless, I’m a Southern Baptist with a smaller waistline than Huckabee.
First *omney, now Huckster, the other half of the two liberal hemorrhoids... Gomer Pyle.
how is mcstain going to cinch that elusive illegal alien vote without Hucksterbee as his side kick?
Hallelujah!
Are we a tad bit bitter? Actually, from a certain point of view, you have a point. I was never happy with Hucksterbee’s identity politics; where he ran against the “devil worshipping mormon” and had people voting for him “because he was a Christian”. Lost in all of that were Hucksterbee’s lack of conservative ideas.
Hands down, Mark Sanford. He's as perfect as you can get.
It's the fried chicken, potato salad and extra helpings of grits do that.
I voted for Huckabee. Nothing personal towards Romney. I just believed of the two he was more conservative. Not that it mattered. McCain still won.
I was a Fred Head from the get-go. I hate that he had such a poorly run campaign, because he's dead on on conservative issues. I don't know if Fred could him, specifically because of the way he ran his campaign. I'm so frustrated with this election cycle.
The former Arkansas governor, whose insurgent candidacy won the hearts of social conservative (born again evangelical christians).
sure lets ruin a possible presidential candidate by being mcstains vp, hucksterbee would be perfect, romney would work too, hell any other rino would be a great choice for mcstain, he wont listen to them anyway.
BTW, one of the folks doing Moderator duty this month has been beating up on Science Threads and demanding they be categorized as Religion. She's driven away several dozen major science posters who have been here for years. That could be part of what's going on here ~ just a Moderator without a clue.
We shall see.
Even the conservative Independents?
Fred was in his physical prime for this back when he first ran for the Senate. Time has taken a toll on him. That’s all that was wrong with his campaign. Can happen to all of us you know.
Somebody find me a phone booth for the Conservative Independent primary will ya!
As I see it Jim, this election cycle is going to be more about voting AGAINST Obama than voting FOR McCain.
I was originally for Duncan Hunter, I backed him 100 percent, I confess that I was a little perplexed when he endorsed Huckleberry Hound after withdrawing from the race, but that’s water over the dam now.
Our objective has to be the defeat of Obama-lama-ding-dong, and we don’t have to love John McCain or even like him, he is the only alternative to Obama and handing control of all three branches of government to the ‘Rats.
Obama is dangerous for a multitude of reasons, from his naive views of the world, his inexperience, his questionable associates and supporters, not to mention the issue of whether or not he is Constitutionally eligible to even serve as President.
There are dark machinations going on to try and whitewash (no pun intended) the junior Senator from Illinois and the only way he will be stopped will be for us all to put aside our dislike of McCain either personally or politically and recognize that America can probably survive 4 to 8 years of John McCain, just as we would certainly have survived 4 more years of Gerald Ford or 4 to 8 years of Bob Dole. How many of us would have preferred that scumbag Jimmy Carter over Gerald Ford, or the second term of Bill Clinton instead of Bob Dole now that we have the advantage of hindsight?
It is in fact questionable if America can survive 4 to 8 years of Obama if the ‘Rats regain power in the Executive Branch.
Donald Rumsfeld (the best damn SecDef we’ve had in a long time) said “you go to war with the Army you’ve got”, and we have to go into this election cycle with the candidate we have, even if we’re not real happy about who it is. We have to win the War against Obama and the leftist pukes who will tear down our great Nation, and the only way we have a shot at doing that is to vote for John McCain.
